Nausea 12 weeks after gallbladder removal

Posted , 108 users are following.

Had my gallbladder removed 12 weeks ago due to pain from 1 large stone. Had the dreaded diarrhea for 8 weeks but has settled. Have the most horrendous nausea I have ever experienced. It's worse in the mornings and I can hardly get out of bed its that bad. Some days it goes by lunchtime and I feel ok and other days it lingers until the evening and then I feel ok. Was back in hospital last week and other than a little gastritis everything is ok. My surgeon said it will go in time. I am just wondering if this happened to anyone else and how long did it take to go. Its starting to depress me now!

    Hello!

Since you couldn't eat, did you have that feeling of being empty? Since my surgery, I am feeling empty despite what I eat. I feel like I just gave birth. I am feeling so light.

I had a lot of bloating to be honest and didn’t get an empty feeling. I still get bloating which I didn’t have before the surgery. I hope you feel better soon. Take care

Thank you so much for replying. Btw, I hope your husband is doing well too. The bloating I am feeling now is mostly pressure as soon as I eat or drink. It is terrible.

Hello, I’m sorry to hear about what you’re going through. Just wanted to check if you’re feeling any better? I had my gallbladder removed 5 weeks ago and I am experiencing the same symptoms. Horrible nausea in the morning that last throughout the day and my stomach feels sick all day. I am unable to eat much. Feeling very weak and tired. I hope you are feeling better, please send an update of how you are doing.

Hi there it’s 4 years since I had the surgery. I am feeling fine now. It took a long time to settle down but I’m ok now and can eat and drink normally just not as much as before as I feel full much quicker without the gallbladder. I hope this settles down for you soon. Take care

Hello. I’m so happy you are better. You went through so much. I’m 5 weeks after the surgery and hoping my issues won’t go on as long. It’s been horrid. They also found I have ulcers after the surgery. You are very inspiring with how you overcame everything and gives me hope. Take care!

How did you know you were back to normal? Can you please elaborate?

I stopped vomiting and the diarrhea stopped and I could eat normally again. The trapped wind is normal. It’s the side effect of not having a gallbladder and should lessen in time. I still get it and bloating at times particularly if I eat a large meal. X

I am so scared and it is depressing. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I have so many questions to ask you. But I don't want to bother you.

When you say it should lessen in time, do you mean more than 2 months? Just curious.

Did you have trapped wind after surgery? I am 7 weeks post op and it is a nightmare.

I had nausea for 4 months post gallbladder surgery, and its starting to recently go away.  My GI doctor gave me Carafate, which has helped calm down the nausea.  If I do get nausea, it comes adn goes really quick.  I think  my stomach is just trying to digest something new.

As far as may fatigue, I started being active again (working out 30 minutes a day), and I haven't encountered any more fatigue.  My energy feels back to normal.  My body needed a kick start, after not being active for 4 months.

With better energy, it made my mental state better as well.   I am happier and more positive.

Gallbladder surgery effects everyone differently.  My doctor told me after 2 weeks I would be back to normal.  Nope, I am barely getting better after 4 months.   I had a friend that took 3 days and he was back to normal.  I had another friend that took 12 months to get back to normal.   Each person had different symptoms.

I have finally learned gallbladder surgery just has different outcomes.

Having faith and patience is the key.  Sharing our life experiences with one another helps us become educated, and not feel like your alone.

Hang in there.   Our lives will be back to normal soon.  Trust yourself to improve - you will!!!!!!

Hello. I had my gallbladder out almost 6 weeks ago and it’s just been awful. I am sick all day long. I have no appetite but do force myself to eat mainly bananas, yogurt or toast and feel even more nauseous after eating those things. I’ve also been very fatigued and weak. It’s gettibg depressing living this way. It’s the worst in the morning, I feel so lightheaded, sick to my stomach, my heart races and my blood pressure is high. Did you experience anything like that?

The first 3 months I had nausea and fatigue, on and off.  Hang in there and stay positive. Your body is adjusting.  You will be back to normal soon.

Trust me, I was upset at some point as well, because I just wanted to be back to feeling normal.

      You will!!!!

      Johnette-

You had a major surgery, and your body is adjusting.  The best advice I can give is to listen to your body, and, stay mentally strong.  Staying mentally strong will help your body become better.

Hang in there and remain hopeful and positive.  Trust me, you will get better soon.

Prayers for everyone out there dealing with post-gallbladder surgery. Have faith and stay positive.

Did you ever have anything else like the full feeling Johnette is talking about? How did you eat? What about your appetite? Any weakness or dizziness?

      Hi John,

Thank you for your kind and positive words. It’s good to hear you are getting better. I try to stay positive and keep my mind strong but it is frustrating and upsetting to feel this way day after day with not much improvement. I’m only 6 weeks out and could have many more months of this after hearing others stories. We just have to get through it and stay strong, people do recover it just takes time. This is what I’m hanging on to.  I’m so glad we have this forum to support one another. I hope you and everyone on here continues to improve everyday!

      Johnette-

Thanks for your positive thoughts.  I am finally starting to feel better.

I completely understand how frustrated you are.   Hang in there and try to be mentally strong.  Surround yourself with positive messages, and with people who make you happy and divert your mind.

Do note I have 2-3 friends who recovered quicker than me, one being 2 weeks and the other 6 weeks.  Everyone's body/DNA is different, and outcomes can vary.   Surgeons are hesitant to give timing ranges, because of the variation.

Listen to your body and try to relax and mentally relax.

Prayers and thoughts for you...      Take my word, you will be better very soon.  Each day gets better!!!!
