Nausea 12 weeks after gallbladder removal

Had my gallbladder removed 12 weeks ago due to pain from 1 large stone. Had the dreaded diarrhea for 8 weeks but has settled. Have the most horrendous nausea I have ever experienced. It's worse in the mornings and I can hardly get out of bed its that bad. Some days it goes by lunchtime and I feel ok and other days it lingers until the evening and then I feel ok. Was back in hospital last week and other than a little gastritis everything is ok. My surgeon said it will go in time. I am just wondering if this happened to anyone else and how long did it take to go. Its starting to depress me now!

Kelly, I had my go out in May of 2015.  The year before that was pretty bad. I thought the operation would solve all my problems. Within 2 months I was sicker than I had ever been. I went to four major hospitals. All they could find was an ulcer. I couldn’t eat and began suffering from malnutrition. I lost 35 pounds.  This went on for a year before my family insisted the dr put me in the hospital for dehydration. While there I was prescribed something to help me sleep and something to increase my appetite.

I slowly began to be able to eat but remained so sick and was in the bed most of the time. I don’t have the words to express how bad it was.

I found this site and Ace Johnson was a huge help. Finally I found someone who had a similar experience, although hers was a little different.

As time went on I felt myself feeling some better, but by that time I had become severely depressed.

The original illness is gone now, but I am dealing with depression and anxiety.

Don’t let that happen to your husband.

What he is feeling now will go away. It took me two years, but that is rare

I promised myself that if I ever recovered, I would reach out to others who were having the same experience.

Assure your husband that he he will recover and don’t let him fall into  the depression trap.  Your support is so important to him.

Since mine was out three years ago i have not been well.  Eating problems with many foods so down to very restricted diet.  Developed depression and anxiety which is worse.  Dr cant seem to find a med suits me.   Have you got meds?

I now take antidepressants but have not found one that does what I need. I don’t fell well but I think it’s theADs making me feel bad. I believe the horrible sick feeling as a result of the G B coming is over, but I am left with depression. The anxiety is a result of the ADs.

No doctor will agree with any of this, but there are too many of us who end up sick after GB surgery.

Hi Kelly, I’m sorry to hear what your husband is going through. I had my gallbladder out about six weeks ago and it’s been awful. I can’t hardly eat anything, no appetite, have pain underneath my ribs, very weak and fatigued and my stomach feels sick all day long. I have not been able to go back to work. Is your husband able to eat anything? Even just the smallest amount helps. I force myself to eat yogurt, bannanas, applesauce or toast, maybe even plain white rice with plain chicken. I feel sick after eating but force myself even if I can’t finish it. I also use a heating pad on my stomach, the warmth helps.  I’ve also heard from others that it can take 6 months to even a year to feel normal again. I’ve been holding on to that and that I have to just give it time. It’s not easy but it helps to know there are others who don’t recover right away and for those that didn’t did get better. I hope this all settles down for your husband very soon.

This morning I had to leave to go to work, I have been so worried about him because he is to a point where he said death would be better than this misery. He has a appointment on Wednesday with a GI specialist so hopefully they will be able to help. We are really running out of options

Not much belching. I’ve had a lot of nausea, diarrhea and have just felt sick to my stomach all day.

The same really but I’m ok. Feeling a little extra fatigued today. Are you feeling any better?

I am feeling the same. I still have pain where my gallbladder was and uncomfortable before and after I eat. The nausea is outrageous.

      I am staying positive.
