Nausea 12 weeks after gallbladder removal

Posted , 108 users are following.

Had my gallbladder removed 12 weeks ago due to pain from 1 large stone. Had the dreaded diarrhea for 8 weeks but has settled. Have the most horrendous nausea I have ever experienced. It's worse in the mornings and I can hardly get out of bed its that bad. Some days it goes by lunchtime and I feel ok and other days it lingers until the evening and then I feel ok. Was back in hospital last week and other than a little gastritis everything is ok. My surgeon said it will go in time. I am just wondering if this happened to anyone else and how long did it take to go. Its starting to depress me now!

I know i havent posted on here here lately so heres a update on me. tomorrow will be 19 weeks post op. i started feeling better right after Christmas. the nausea came and went. the first of the year, i went back to work at a new job that was less stressful than my old one. For the last month, the nausea completely went away! i was so happy. i started eating what i wanted. im still on my medicines i take, the mirtazapine, and rabeprazole. i woke up this past Friday though sick to my stomach, had nausea and almost threw up. i had to call out of work. the nausea still hasnt left. my mom says that its probably a virus. i did start my time of the month on Friday and my husband reminded me that i usually get nauseous on it, but i remember its never been this bad. i still have to go work tomorrow so im hoping the nausea will pass.

that is my biggest fear is that the nausea will come back full time. im scared to eat now cause i feel sick after. i did have a doctor appointment last month on the 15th, and my GI said it could take up to a year to feel completely better, and i did have a bacterial infection after i had my GB out. so i guess only time will tell. i still have some Zofran and Phenegren but it only took the edge off, it didnt completely take the nausea away.

so i guess its back to eating bland food again, and pray this nausea goes. and i'll have to suck it up and work. As for my energy levels, there pretty much in the hole. i still get exhausted so easy. i work, come home, and go to bed. if i go anywhere, i pay for it later. i guess im gonna have to take it one day at a time. i thank God for getting me this far, and that he will continue to heal me. i guess i have come a long way from not being able to eat and losing 25 lbs and in and out of the hospital to where i am now. im just not a patient person and i need to be.

      Shannon-

You being patient and faithful is key. God will take care of you and is by your side at all times.

I am 8 months post-op and I really started feeling better in month 5-6. I still have some off days (nausea) here and there, and everyday is definitely not 100%.

I heard the same thing from several people about the 1 year mark is when you really feel back to 100%.

Prayers will continue for everyone dealing with this situation.

Hang in there and listen to your body.

i agree with careful diet adjustment i am now eating more normal things. started to get better after first year, and bit by bit now still need to watch but no diarrhoea for last year, although nausea can come and go for no reason. so there is hope out there. time is a great healer.

sorry guys but i dont know what to do. i woke up this morning worse. i cant eat anything without throwing up. im even having a hard time keeping water down. the nausea is back full force. the zofran and phenergen is not helping. im so scared cause i dont know what is happening. i was fine for the last month, then everything comes roaring back except now im back to throwing up. all ive been doing today is crying and praying to God to heal me and give me strength. i dont know how much strength i have left. ive called my GI doctor but she hasnt called back yet. i might have to go to the ER after my husband gets home from work. Im 4 1/2 months post op.

Audrey, i am about 4 years post op. it took me 2 years to get over iti said that if i ever did recover, I would try to reassure others that recovery would come .

It is so important to stay positive and not let yourself get depressed.

      Hi Audrey,

my heart and prayers go out to you. its not fun being like this. my doctor called back yesterday morning, and based on my symptoms, she believes my C Diff is back which is a bacterial infection of the colon. its not fun. my doctor had warned me that i could relaspe, but i didnt think i would. i have to take a antibiotic again thats a stronger dose and for longer. Please keep positive. try everything you can not to get depressed. thats another problem i have now. its not a fun road to go down.

Keep in touch. i love my family, they are my rock, but they dont understand fully what im going through.

Hi Nancy, did you develop any pain after your gallbladder removal? I started having constant pain 3 months after surgery in my right side where the gallbladder used to be, it will also go in my upper abdomen and over to the left side rib area. Did you ever experience anything like that?

audrey32349 have you found anything that helps? i am 2 yrs post op and am dealing with everything that you have. thanks take care

I am convinced that the surgery has caused everything to get worse and caused possible IBD. Only thing that helps some is Aciphex and Tums. I also have to eat very small amounts often but I can barely. tolerate food or water any more. I pray you all get answers and recover soon.

i wouldn't call it pain, more like discomfort. My main problem was a constant sick feeling that was worse than the flu and constant. Eventually that turned into depression and anxiety. The meds for that created even worse problems that I am still dealing with.

It is so important that you not allow your self to become depressed.

All of your symptoms will pass, but for some of us it takes a long time.

Stay strong. This season will pass very soon.

In the meantime, rest and be faithful as your body heals.

Thank you John. i know i must be faithful, and i need to learn patience. my doctor believes my bacterial infection is back so i have to go back on the antibiotic on a stronger dose and for longer.
