Neck pain, dizziness, light-headed...help!

Hello,

The neckpain I have been experiencing for several years now (chiropractor helped but as of last year stopped helping my pain), the dizziness came on last fall and stopped me from going on my usual jogs. Then came the light headed feeling (yay, not!). I tried taking pain killers (Ibprofen), getting blood work done, cat scan, and all that jazz. Never had I seen my doctor so much or racked up my medical bill. I am currently seeing a phyiscal therapist for my neck pain (helping somewhat), but the dizziness continues. I am seeing an ear, nose, and throat specialist but they are booked until mid-May (another downer!). I am so beyond frustrated because people really don't get when I say "I have bad days and ok days". I can't even work out without feeling like I am going to pass out and I can hardly keep up with my daughter. I want myself back and the doctors are not helping and I just want to feel relief. Someone please enlighten me.

How are you doing now? I have the same symptoms. It has been over three months for me. It really ruins your life.

    Hi all,

I am new to this forum, I find this specific conversation very relevant to my symptoms and thought of writing.

Everything for me started 6 months ago with weird muscle spasm / twitching, my doctor said it could be a pinched nerve in my neck with influence in the whole body,  so I started to see a chiropractor. Spasms/twitching got better but then the dizziness started...For the last 5 months I've been feeling awful: like if I were on a boat the whole time (or, actually, like if I did just got off a boat), I didn't have neck pain in the beginning of my symptoms but eventually 4 months ago I started to feel my neck and upper shoulders very stiff, and from then on I feel neck pain and stiffness practically everyday, with associated sensation of "pressure" in the back of my lower head.

Additionally I have some sort of maybe related sleep disorder: I would wake up because of muscle spasms, and involuntary movements especially in the moments when I am about to get asleep, as if my body would want to wake me up

    I've done:

    - blood tests (they are perfect)

    - brain MRI (it is normal)

    - visit to neurologist (everything normal).

I am on Valium (2 mg a day) for the last 3 months as my doctor thinks everything is related to stress and anxiety. I have indeed high level of stress due to my profession but I don't feel like an anxious person at all...

If I don't take Valium though, my symptoms get incredibly worse and the dizziness is totally debilitating.

Any comment, similar experience, or suggestions of what I can do to have a proper diagnosis or about anything else I could try would be much appreciated! THANKS!

(ps: English is my second language so apologies for any inconsistencies!!)

But to this day I still feel the pain it right at the top of my neck and along my shoulders and i find it hard to walk sometimes as o feel like I'm gonna fall over.. But there seems to be no diagnosis been told I've gotta live with it.. But it's hard when you got children as it stops me from doing thing's... I do feel your pain

      Hi Claire

I had the neck pain with dizziness too and was diagnosed with MAV/Silent migraines and put on nortriptyline which has helped about 80%, the bonus is that it has also relieved my shoulder pain.

Look into Verticle Heterophia or vestibular migraines

Look into BPPV (Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo). I'm not sure why you had neck pain to begin with. If you had an impact or event causing the pain, you could have caused the BPPV at the same time. If you turn your head at certain angles or your body is in a certain position, does your dizziness ever get worse or do your eyes react oddly? If so, it is potentially BPPV. Look into a vestibular specialist and the Eppley maneuver. It should be able to help you. Best of luck.

    Hi Tiny2010

I know this was a few years ago but this sound like everything I am dealing with right now. Have you overcome the dizziness?

I have been feeling the same from the past month and a half. It all started one day when I was feeling very weak and had severe headache so I went to my physician and he said that my blood pressure had risen because of which I was feeling like this. So I continued with it then the feeling of dizziness started and I kept feeling like I'm imbalanced and like my body was unstable. After three weeks after I complained about breathlessness and chest pain my doctor asked me to get the blood tests and cholesterol tests done and it showed I had high cholesterol. Now I've taken cholesterol pills and vitamins pills for three weeks but the dizziness and stiff neck feeling has not yet gone. I don't understand what is wrong with me I just want to get back to normal and feel the way I used to be before this disease. I just feel very left out at times. I don't understand conversations and feel spaced out. It's hard to concentrate on work as u have this thing going on in ur head and my vision also does not feel normal.

Can somebody help me out with this please

You could try looking into your SCM muscle. It's in your neck. Google SCM muscle issues and trigger points.

What did you find out since your post 3 years ago? I have same symptoms.

Another thing is the human body was designed to fast at least once a week if not two days in a row. This reduces imflamation and resets the blood. Ten thousand years ago we hunted for our food and it never came every day.
