NO PERIOD AFTER FIBROID SURGERY! PLEASE HELP!

Posted , 28 users are following.

Hi all,

I don't know what to do or who to turn too.

I had a operation in April to remove a fibroid in my womb..the operation went well. I had two episodes of bleeding since the op one was 2 weeks after and the other 3 weeks after but nothing since and it's been 6 weeks..I'm really freaking out and terrifed that I'm going through early menopause!

I did this to have children and I'm scared now

I have had 6 months of zoldex injections though..I'm wondering if this is delaying my periods..Weird thing is I do feel like I'm coming on..I have the cramps but nothing!!!

Please help as I'm very depressed...

I tried contacting my consultant with little success

I feel very alone and scared again

    Hello all,

Were any of you able to conceive after the surgery? I had an open myomectomy in June 2020 and had several fibroids removed. I was on pills to decrease the bleeding before the surgery and up to 3 months post op. To this day I have not had a period but like many of you I have had cramps and other symptoms that make me feel that one is coming, I get light spotting for a day or 2 but thats it. I am 39 and don't have children as yet which is why I did the surgery. I am on birth control pills but a low dose, have been on it for years. My gyn who was part of the surgical team is not concerned but I very much am. I now have arm numbness and very bad flatulence and my stool has not returned to normal, it is very diarrhea like.. My surgery was botched,, they left a sponge inside so I had to go back to the OR in the same week after they figured out what was wrong.. It will be depressing if I am not able to conceive after all that.

    Hello All!

I am adding to this threat as I am also in the same boat of not getting a cycle since my myomectomy hysteroscopy on 26cm submicousal fibroid in my uterine wall. It has been 6 weeks since surgery, only bled two days after surgery for half a day-no pain.

I spent the last 4 years in agony during my periods which came every 10 -15 days and lasted at some points for 7-10 days! Due to heavy periods, I became anemic and needed iron iv drops 3 times! Lost weight ans I was on all kinds of period stopping pills all that time! It has harsh times!

Married for almost 4 years now, we struggled with fertility. My gyno did IUI for us and it didnt work! Then we went to a fertility clinic and in the initial process the doctor told me I need to remove the fibroid if we wanted a successful pregnancy! Besides that my AMH is super low and my progesterone is super high- both are bad!

I removed the fibroid to have a baby but also for my general health and well being! I wish the people who started this threat could update us on if the period finally came and if they got pregnant etc. I will update yall on my progress in the hopes that it might help others. I pray for all of you moms-to-be.

      Hi Mom2b,

My surgery was in Feb. of this year. I had a period right after surgery the following month it was late and only spotting. I then went 65 days without a period, when it came it was a normal flow and no cramps. I was worried as well, but I guess our bodies are still healing. I hope this response helps.

Thank you Karla for your reply. I had my period after 6 week post surgery. It was painless and normal flow! It was the first time in over a decade I did not take a pain killer! Aside from the agonizing pain I used to have, the flow was too much that I would go through pads like crazy! But now I am so grateful the flow was normal and I had no pain!! I never thought that would be possible. In previous post I mentioned the size of the fibroids I had removed as 26cm I meant 26mm! It was small but in the wrong place and would hinder implantation or cause miscarriage! I am very happy I did this surgery and would advice anyone going through what I went to through to find a good doctor and do it!

    Hi Tezi

Believe me I feel your pain and anxiety. I had an open myomectomy on the 27th May 21, removed 27 fibroids. Following surgery I bleed for approx. 2 weeks and just had a period on the 9th July. Was super nervous because I thought I had gone in to menopause. Prior to surgery, i was advised that I entered early menopause a few years ago 😦. I am 39 and still hoping to become a mum one day. Please don't be discouraged, your body is still repairing after such a trauma. I came on this thread because I had a mini breakdown on day 2 of my period because it was so heavy, which I didn't expect at all. Has anyone else experienced this?

Please can others share their pregnancy stories following their myomectomy

    Thank you xoxo

my period came after 6 weeks, lasted for normal 6 days. then after five days I started having spotting for six days. Since the first day of my period until now it’s been eight weeks and I haven’t had a period. I am worried like everyone here my regular gyno said to come to her and that she will give me pills that bring my periods. But what is the point of that if I’m not going to ovulate? I endlessly searched if one can ovulation Without periods and in some cases very rare that happens.

Hi All, I also lost my period after open myomectomy. I havent had a period in a year but still get all of the symptoms without any bleeding.

My doctor's recently figured out whats going on so I thought I'd share in case it brings anyone else any clarity.

It seems I have cervical stenosis, where the cervix narrows or gets completely blocked, in my case by scar tissue. I had a hysteroscopy to correct this but the scar tissue and stenosis came back. They think they can put a stent in to stop the scar tissue from sealing my cervix again but I may need regular dialations to keep it open. Not ideal but its nice to know why I lost my period after surgery and also nice to know that its still possible to have children, even if its a bit more difficult.

    Hope this helps.

i had myomectomy on June 1 and had a spotting for two weeks and now is being 3 month letter i have not got my period. the doctor said im going through menopause. did you ever got your period?

    • Posted

Yes, but it took two years and 5 hysteroscopic intrauterine adhesion surgeries to bring it back. My cervix was totally closed due to scar tissue. If that is your issue, you may need multiple hysteroscopies to correct it, but in the end they were able to get my period back and think I will likely be able to conceive naturally.

Can the doctor tell if the cervix is closed by doing a Pap smear? Or how do they figure it out?

I'm having the same problem, but I'm assuming it's all the pain medications and antibiotics I took after my surgery that threw my circle off. I had surgery in June. myomectomy, and I was already having periods during surgery. and since than I haven't gotten one. n I'm having cramps 😫. but im hoping it will show up.some medications can actually stop you periods for some time. my doctor said if it doesn't come by September, to call him. but im not panicking cus I knw pain medication does that to me sometimes.

i don't wanna scare anyone but no period or a very light one can mean intrauterine adhesions aka scar tissue in the uterus formed after the surgery. it's called asherman's syndrome and it can affect fertility. i had a laparoscopic myomectomy 2 months ago and also dealing with very light period. unfortunately this condition can't be seen on ultrasound but is only diagnosed with a hysteroscopy. i haven't had one yet but will be getting one. i'm feeling so hopeless right now. i thought this fibroid nightmare would be over once i get the surgery but now i may have this new condition which is even worse regarding fertility.

hope y'all are doing well and got your normal flow back by now.

I hope you had your hysteroscopy and they cleared the scar tissue. If they haven't, I just want to recommend doing multiple procedures and not giving up. It took 5 hysteroscopic adhesion surgeries over 2 years to clear my severe Asheman's syndrome. After the 4th they told me that there might not be any point in continuing and that I should just have a hysterectomy. But I saw one more surgeon ( who was an Asherman's specialist in another city) and he was able to clear my lower uterine segment scarring and resume my period.

I haven't conceived yet but the fertility specialists don't see anything wrong with my uterus now that the Asherman's is taken care of and my period has returned.

In any case, don't get discouraged if it takes more than one try.
