I found out from my GP today that the problem with the supply is that the factory that makes them has burnt down and nobody else does them so are they going to get a new place to make them sorted, does anyone know?

    Hi all,

Just wondered if I could ask for a bit of advise that doesnt really relate to getting hold of orlistat. As i mentioned I got my first ever prescription on Tuesday and I have been nervous but managed to take my firs tablet this morning. Im really nervous about the horid side effects you hear of so im been strict here but then i hear about people that dont eat enought fat and then they dont work. I had porridge with chopped banana for breakfast. Can someone give me examples of meals with the right amount of fat in please. Any info would be fab.

I would love to know the same as Chantelle, i read somewhere that each meal should have no more than 15g of fat, yet everything i eat seems to give me an upset tummy sad Any help would be great

    Hi Chantelle/fender_gurl,

There are lots of posts under the main Orlistat topic. This was a busy forum before the stock problems and there is quite a bit of advice about this subject. If you scroll to the top, click Orlistat in the breadcrumb it goes here patient.info/forums/discuss/browse/orlistat-3027. If you click the Popular tab there is a very long general thread on Orlistat.

If you use the search above and search on orlistat meal then filter to discussions you get patient.info/Search.asp?searchTerm=orlistat+meal&collections=Discuss_Forums

You will have to copy that link into your browser as the + breaks it in here, I have reported this bug smile.

    Hope this helps,

    Alan

    Hope this helps.

I still eat much the same type of things I did before but the big difference is the size of the meal.

    Breakfast

Porridge (Scotts Porridge Old Fashioned) in a small soup bowl made with green milk and I have a teaspoon full of Treacle a small glass of Orange and a mug of tea with green milk no sugar.

I find my sweet urges are satisfied with the treacle and the porridge gets you through till lunchtime without having to start picking at the biscuit tin.

We never buy chocolate buiscuits or any other type of craving food because if its not in the larder you cant eat it

    Lunchtime

A bowl of soup with two slices of Bread & thinly spread butter. A corner youghurt Bananna flavour with chocolate cornflakes and a bag of Iced Gem, and a cup of tea. Again the soup fills you up and the Iced Gems take care of the sugar kick.

    Dinner.

Can be Shepards Pie, a Roast dinner, Salad etc but this has to be on a small side plate (Sandwich plate), think of airline size meal. A fruit jelly and yes another bag of Iced Gems and a nice can of cold Ginger beer.

Thats it apart from another cup of tea during the evening.

On that diet with of course the occasional slip I was shedding between 4/5 lbs a month and with no excersize which is due to my dissability.

Its not what you eat but the quantity.

I have had the occasional upset stomach that has you running to the bathroom and I have had stomach cramps which are quite unpleasant and uncomfortable but they only lasted for a few minutes.

    Good luck Mike

Hi, Thanks for the links Alan, will be sure to take a look. Mike, I should have probably mentioned that I am type 1 diabetic so the iced gems and treacle is out of the question lol. I also go to they gym so I need something that will increase my blood sugar long enough to go do some excersize. I would usually have 2 slices of wholemeal toast with thin scraping of flora light with beans, spaghetti or scrambled egg for lunch n tonight im having home made spag bol for tea (a little nervous about this). I was told to boil the mince to get the fat about but surely the nutrients would go with it. When you say soup, am i right in thinking the 'cream of' verieties of soup are a bad idea? Should also mention that because of my diabetes I measure out all of my carbs ect in order to take insulin so my portion sizes should be fine biggrin

Heinz Cream Soup nearly always Chicken & Mushroom and just 1/2 a can.

I firmly believe its not what you eat its just the amount unless of course you have added extras like yourself.

Sorry about the diabetes I know nothing about that so cant be of any use.

Is there a Diabetes group on this forum?

Hi Mike, I agree with you with the quantity thing. To be honest I can eat most things in moderation but i try to avoid the sweet stuff as it just sends my blood sugar high. I have my diabetes under control so at the min im trying to focus on the fat substance so that i dont go over the 15g per meal, I really dont want any of those awful side effects.
