Hello - It is a little scary to read this, mainly because I am having the same exact issues. I went for an MRI yesterday, still waiting for them to call me to see if anything showed up. Did they say you can continue to be numb for a long period of time? Mine started about 5 weeks ago. nothing helps. I take 800mg of motrin 3 days a day. Thanks!

YOUR BACK? That doesn't have to do with neurology? Super confused. Get any answers as to a cause?

It does have to do with neurology.I was sent to neurosurgeon for tests

due to numbness in legs and now arms due to many issues with my

back.I am under the care of a neurologist.

I have been round your route with the NHS and privately without an answer. The neurosurgeon said to see a neurologist who specialises in neuropathy. It was a neorologost who advised the neurosurgeon. There are not many around and the specialist centre for neuropathy is in Bristol. I found a London NHS one with an 18 week waiting list who also sees patients privately at London Bridge Hospital and at a clinic in Sevenoaks where I will be seeing him. In my opinion it all comes from my lumbar spine and this will be another waste of money.

Is there anyone out there who "got well"??? I'm going through the same thing and have been seeing multiple doctors for it for four years, and a huge bag of pain killers that I don't want to take because they are dangerous.I can't work, I can no longer enjoy sports, I can't walk that far, in other words, I can't live a normal life. I had physical therapy for almost one year. Nothing cured----just felt better at that time.

Now I feel like I've made no progress at all and all I can look forward to is it getting worse.

I am not cured but all is under control.I take 1800 msg of

Gabapentin per day and tramadol as needed for pain.

I have a walker if needed and can no longer drive.

Could be a pinched nerve in your back or a vitamin b12 deficiency. Look up symptoms of vitamin b12 and pernicious anaemia

Keep in mind that b12 symptoms can occur when bloods are in range. Look up b12 symptoms. My dr told me my b12 was ok when it was only 140. My neurologist ordered me b12 injections which have helped my symptoms

Thank you Heather. I alreay take B-12....but it won't hurt to up the dosage.

thank you again. My doctor is still evaluating the pinched nerve. After several years of "fooling around" I came right out and said "what's wrong with me"? The discussion took off from there and I think we're on the right track. Basically, I need to go to a top physical therapist, prepare to do whatever exercises for the rest of my life, and take pain medication for the rest of my life.

I agree with Heather. Your B12 needs to be in the very upper range. Mine was 170 & I was taking supplements with b vits in & was told my level was fine as within range. This information was totally wrong. I ended up awfully deficient & it has taken a very long time to undo some of the damage from that. If B12 was your problem, oral B12 may not be your best option. Either sublingual, patches or injectable is far superior. The dose also needs to be high too if there is a deficiency. Check out the B12D website or Facebook group for more info. There are also other supplements needed to aid the absorption e.g folic acid, other b vits, potassium etc

Hi I have a weak right leg very numb right foot and muscle wastage in my calf and buttock and constant shooting pains and cramp in my leg and thigh muscle I've paid to see a private consultant who said he'd refer me back to NHS and tell them what blood tests he wants done and Emg tests and Mri I received his bill within 3 days and 7 days now and my go still hasn't received anything from him saying what tests he requires doing. Gggrr it's worrying as all I can see and feel is the fact my leg seems to be dying and I need answers too why. Horrible this isn't it I suggested to him ref to pod low n12 levels as my mum had transverse militis which is posibly due to b12 and weak mylene sheath I believe but he didn't seem to agree. I cancelled my NHS consultation date end of December now I'm waiting for him to tell my go what tests to do // I'm very anxious to get some answers
