One week using "Wet Ones" with Benzethonium Chloride

Posted , 128 users are following.

I have been using Wet Ones as recommended by Lynda79 (Clean eyes 4 times daily using 1/4 wet one) for one week

I can report the following.

Initial State:- Eye irritation/soreness/dryness including corneal ulcers, etc which I have had for over 2 months continually. Requiring washing approx 3-4 times daily with warm water, baby shampoo, eye drops etc..

When starting with the Wet Ones, I initially felt slight stinging around the rim of the eye, but this stopped after 24 hrs use.

After 3 days:- A lot of relief, maybe rinse eyes with just warm water if they felt dry.

After 7 days:- I have forgotten that I have blephoritus. Have to remind myself to clean eyes with Wet Ones.

I will continue to use the wet ones, now cutting down to 3x daily as recommended by Lynda79, and will update again next week. Hope this helps somebody, and many thanks to Lynda79 for sharing this.

This is veryhelpful, Honjon and Florida Gal, thanks for telling of initial reaction to the Wet Ones which does prepare me for the itchy eyes, otherwise I could give up thinking it would make nmatters worse. I am off to by the blessed things.

      Dear Martha,

I had the terrible itching in both eyes. Honjon used the UK wipes which have Benzalkonium Chloride in them. I used the US Wet Ones and they have Benzenthonium Chloride in them. I had no problem at all when using them. Both are Quaternary ammonium compounds and kill staphylococcus.

The people who should not try these wipes are those that are allergic to shampoo, detergents, fabric softeners, hand wipes, lanolin or even spermicida jellies. Most, or about 80% of people can use these to kill the Blepharitis on their eyelashes.

The US wipes can be bought online from drugstore (chemist) sites.

You can wear mascara and kill it at the same time. Let me know if you want that info. It is also posted on this site.

It does take a little over 3 months to kill it. The last couple of months are just twice a day. Some have done it twice and day and killed it too as they worked.

      Wish you well soon,

      Dear Linda;

I just bought Wet Ones Be Gentle. In the Wet Ones web site they say to use those for the face as they do not have alcohol. They do not say what else they have but I suppose must be the same old Benzalkonium. In the  process of searching in four chemists, and finding them in the last one, I came across Blephasol by Thea laboratories. I will investigate and report but I suppose it must be more expensive and not necessary better. It is bitterly cold here (south London) and being outside is great, probably  the cold brings the inflamation down.

Until soon and thanks for your kindness

      Hi Lynda,

Wanted to give you an update.  My eyes are doing the best they have in 20 years thanks to your discovery of treatment with Wet Ones.  I have shared your story with many people and they are all having the same success.  Thank you so much for sharing the information with us. It has made a huge difference for so many people.

      Dear Sandra,

That makes me feel really good. I loved the story of the dog and I could not stop smiling all day.

It was my daughter's mother-in-law that made the discovery. She used a antibacterial facial scrub with Benzethonium Chloride in it. I had to look for another product as that had been reformulated when I went to buy it.

As they say, the rest is history thanks to teenagers telling me how to get the word out..

Thank you again for letting me know how they have helped so many including the dog.

    Hi Honjon

I started to use Wet Ones Be Gentle ( they have no alcohol but have the same antiseptic effect because of the B Chloride stuff and they do  not sting) only last night, after the heat and massage routine. Today I am almost completrly free of symptoms after only this two treatments. I will do this three times dayly until I think it is controlled and afterwards I'll shall see. I am so happy and hope you also get over it soon.

    Dear Martha,

It does take a little over 3 months to kill this. If you quit when it feels better it will come back. When it does feel really good then go down to 2 times a day for the remaining time. I had an itching after that and I just used the wipes for a day or two and then it was gone.

    Hope this helps you,

    Sorry I mean it has

    INGREDIENTS

    > Purifie water

    > Alcohol

    > Boric acid

    > Glycerin

    > Witch hazel

    > Sodium borate

    > Benzalkonium chloride

    In Optrex Eye Wash

Would this stuff work as well as the wipes?

It might work better. I have been thinking that as the glands we are trying to wipe drain into the eyes and the wipes are not to touch the eye, we probably are not reaching them as effectively as we could with the eye wash. I shall try it. Thank you for your tip, Ladydawn. (what a poetic name!)

I am only a little concerned about the alcohol in the Optrex, the gentle wipes are free of it but anyhow they irritate if the eye is touched accidentally..
