One week using "Wet Ones" with Benzethonium Chloride

Posted , 128 users are following.

I have been using Wet Ones as recommended by Lynda79 (Clean eyes 4 times daily using 1/4 wet one) for one week

I can report the following.

Initial State:- Eye irritation/soreness/dryness including corneal ulcers, etc which I have had for over 2 months continually. Requiring washing approx 3-4 times daily with warm water, baby shampoo, eye drops etc..

When starting with the Wet Ones, I initially felt slight stinging around the rim of the eye, but this stopped after 24 hrs use.

After 3 days:- A lot of relief, maybe rinse eyes with just warm water if they felt dry.

After 7 days:- I have forgotten that I have blephoritus. Have to remind myself to clean eyes with Wet Ones.

I will continue to use the wet ones, now cutting down to 3x daily as recommended by Lynda79, and will update again next week. Hope this helps somebody, and many thanks to Lynda79 for sharing this.

    Hi Lynda and Honjon;

I feel so very grateful to you, Lynda, because I am completely over the blepharitis,as Honjon. It disappeared in about ten days and now that two months have passed I am sure I am fine. I keep to the treatment twice a day and will do so for the three months as you say and then from time to time.

A big thank and if you click on the little icon there is something for you Linda.

      Dear Lynda,

I too have been free of blepharitis due to using your advice. Can not even begin to thank you enough for sharing this. Once in awhile my yees feel itchy and I get my Wet Ones and use them, I also have boxes stockpiled in case they change the ingredients. in the future..

      Have a great day!!

      Dear Sandra,

I do that too. But there is another way to do it too. Tea tree oil kills staph too and it is used by doctors on the BlephEx machine. Tintin on this site gave the amount to water it down to be able to use without burning your eyes. I saved that info.

After 3 months it did itch once or twice. I jumped on it for 2 days each and then it was gone.

Thank you for keeping in touch and so nice to know you are better.

i have an update. I was told I have blepharitis early last year.  In June I started using wet ones thanks to your posts.  Well I had my one year eye exam.  The Dr. Could not find any blepharitis.  He said my lashes are clean and clear.  My eye sight has not changed.  He said everything looks great.  I was so concerned about how the wipes would effect my eyes.  I was so excited. I told him I used wet wipes.  He said "oh yah wet wipes, they work, but they don't get deep into the lash glands for some types of blepharitis."  Well they worked for me.

      Thank you again.

      Dear June,

It is people like you that keep me going. I know it will not work for everyone but for those who do it offers such relief.

      Thanks for a wonderful update.

june, I woul be interested to know exactly what you did when you used the wet ones.  Did you clean your eyes four times a day?  It seems like if I miss a time in cleaning them it really effects my eyes.  Were you very vigelant?  Thanks, Dena  smile

Hi,  I'm just touching back with the thread after almost a year.  The wet ones did help me to cure the blepharitis.  Ocassionally I would still get scaly eyelids (but just slightly) and dandruffy eyelashes, especially in the mornings.  Since I was afraid it was lice (I am a preschool teacher, and I have never had lice in the classroom, but you can't help but think about it) I went to the doctor and he recommended claridex, a wipe that has tee tree oil and a horribly expensive price. Also, because of celiac disease, I cannot use many shampoos, it seems that skin and scalp become pretty sensitive, so I only use Neutrogena TAR shampoo (not the one with salicylic acid) Anyway, at least for those in the USA, or available thru amazon, I did find TRADER JOES cosmetic tea tree oil wipes at a reasonable price, I do cut them in half and use them very carefully (they're a bit rough) to wipe my eyebrows and eyelids, and that took care of the dandruffy and peeling eyelids. I do that if not every morning, every other morning.  Also, whenever I wash my hair (only twice a week, because more dries my scalp) I do let the foam of the Neutrogena TAR rest on eyebrows, eyes and basically all my face for a minute.  Like other people here, I still have my Wet Ones handy, because when my eyelids were completely swollen and red, nothing helped but Wet Ones, not even the medication given by the eye Dr.

So I'm sharing this here in hope that it may help someone else, just like Lynda 79, Honjon, and Lynda's friend and her mom have helped so many others. Take care!

    Dear Honjon;

I feel the need to write to you because you were my first contact here and we have about the same experience with the treatment. To recap; I had a bad bought in January and with heat/massage/ and Wet Ones Be Gentle ( no alcohol!) I was better in days and well in a week. This week (13 April) I had a bad cold and forgot to do the treatment for a couple of days and no symptoms returned, so I guess I am cured. I am back to the treatment twice a day just in case. Also I discovered that Optrex eye wash has also Bezethonium and it is very refreshing. As it goes in the eye it must hit the bug where it lurks better than the wipes and it is convenient if there is not much time for the full treatment.

    Best wishes!

This is to anyone that has this same problem   I've had blepharitis

for about 25 years and have always had a crust at the base of the

upper lashes.  The warm soaks help clean some of it off but it

seems to be back the next day.  I've tried all the things eye doc

has told me to do but to no avail.  I'm trying the wet ones and

the problem is when I put it on it seems to break off some of the

crusty stuff and it gets in my eye and feels like I have grit in

my eyes most of the day.  Just went to eye doc about a month

ago with "flareup" and he gave me some stuff, drops and ointment.

Can't off hand remember names but it only helped when I was

using it.  Once I stopped the problem was back.  If anyone has

this same problem and found a way to prevent the grit I'd

sure like to know.....I've ordered the Optrex on Amazon and

      hoping that is helpful.....

      Hi Faye

Perhaps just rinsing with water will get rid of the bits but of course it will also get rid of the Benzenthonium so the Optrex should be better.I feel there is a lot of experimentation necessary, perhaps trying Optrex instead of the wipes?

My symptoms were different; at the begining it was only tears and tears so much that I couldn't see, then I started with sticky crusty eyes in the morning and that is when I realized  I had an infection and went to my Dr. She spotted the blepharitis immediately and gave me three pages of writing and no medicine. She is very wise. The blurb said to apply heat, massage and wash with baby shampoo.  Here it was that I found out about the wipes and when buying them I chose without alcohol. It all worked very well for me I hope you also will recover soon. Let us know please.
