One week using "Wet Ones" with Benzethonium Chloride

Posted , 128 users are following.

I have been using Wet Ones as recommended by Lynda79 (Clean eyes 4 times daily using 1/4 wet one) for one week

I can report the following.

Initial State:- Eye irritation/soreness/dryness including corneal ulcers, etc which I have had for over 2 months continually. Requiring washing approx 3-4 times daily with warm water, baby shampoo, eye drops etc..

When starting with the Wet Ones, I initially felt slight stinging around the rim of the eye, but this stopped after 24 hrs use.

After 3 days:- A lot of relief, maybe rinse eyes with just warm water if they felt dry.

After 7 days:- I have forgotten that I have blephoritus. Have to remind myself to clean eyes with Wet Ones.

I will continue to use the wet ones, now cutting down to 3x daily as recommended by Lynda79, and will update again next week. Hope this helps somebody, and many thanks to Lynda79 for sharing this.

I've been following this thread for a few weeks now because of a recent flare up of my own. I was encouraged by the positive feedback on the Wet Ones, so I tried the kind in the red pack in the US. I felt to no sensitivity at all until about four days in. At that point my eylids got chapped and started to peel, so I stopped immediately. Not wanting to give up, I started researching some products that might contain Benzethonium Chloride.

I ended up finding an eye make-up remover by Neutrogena that contains Benzalkonium Chloride. Not sure about the exact amount, but as this is desingned for use on the eyelid, I'm hoping it won't give me any problems. I plan on using it as soon as my lids recover fully from the irritation caused by the Wet Ones. Just thought I'd share this info, in case anyone else is allergic and still wants to give this treatment a shot. It's called "Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover."

I have had blepharitis for years, have been to a private consultant and back and forth to Dr who recently prescribed more antibiotic cream that made my eyes worse. I have suffered continually with all the symptoms written in previous comments, literally each blink was so painful. Until this morning when I bought Wet Ones and got immediate relief, cannot thank you enough. I can't believe that I'm no longer suffering. On the packet it says do not use on eyes!!

      Hello Truman ,

I have been suffering with Blepharitis for 4 years now ,I should specify that I have MGD Blepharitis. Out of desperation I tried the Wet Ones, I had some relief at first mostly due to the fact that the chemicals in the Wet Ones kills the bacteria around the eye lids caused by the tick oils and crust. This is only a really short term relief. Also, I was assured by one of the top eye specialist in the country that prolonged use of Wet Ones can cause severe damage to the eye.

I stopped using the Wet Ones immediately especially when I started to feel burning and soreness in both eyes.

I am in the hospitality industry and just few weeks ago I was talking with one of my customer that has been suffering from severe Blepheritis for several years. He just had a procedure done called (Lipy Flow) it’s a 12 minutes procedure done in the doctor’s office. He had it done about 6 months ago and he is doing GREAT!  I am thinking to give it a try, the negative is that the procedure it’s pretty expensive, about $900 but it should work up to 18 months.

      Good luck .

      Thanks for the reply sal,

I've had ipl treatment, which did nothing

Lipi flow is probably the only thing I haven't tried. So Worth a shot . Thank you.

Having had this for so long now I'm battling with anxiety stress, depression.

Being in a uncomfortable and frustrated state of mind state for so long has actually driven me crazy.

I'm on day 7 with wet ones. I don't put in my eye just on the eyelid. Iced results so far, without having a huge improvement I can definitely say they're not making it worse.

Just one eyelid is red and whenever wind, aircon or draft hits my eye its goes more red as the oil just doesn't flow on the bottom lid.

      That's my assumption any how.

If I press the lid some oil comes out and it provides temp relief

I'm on day 10 wet ones.

The redness on my eyelid has definitely reduced.

My eyes still get very dry, but this reduction In eyelid Inflammation is positive.

Especially after years of it being red!

I'll continue on with the wet ones.

      Dear truman,

You may need to try to use the wipes only 2 times a day. You can rinse your eyes after 10 minutes. It takes 10 minutes for the Quats to work.

Several people used them only 2 times a day and one lady, Jill, said her eyelashes grew back and she had this problem for 20 years. She used them only 2 times a day.

      Hope this info helps,

I'm really happy to hear all the positive feedback on using Wet Ones as I haven't been able to find anything to relieve my pain. I will try this immediately and hope it works for me as well!

Hi, my blepharitis started while my brother was dying, after the usual round of antibiotics which only helped for few days, I realised part of my problem was that I could not cry, felt tearful but could not let go  enough to cry, as a Homoeopath, I gave myself a remedy which helped but did not completely rid me of this awful eye condition which gave me bloodshot eyes that felt like they were full of gravel. Thanks to Lynda 79, I tried wet ones, within two days all the swelling had gone, after four days I had whites to my eyes and things continue to improve. Thanks for all the great advice, its so nice to know I'm not alone.

      Hi krystyna,

Just wanted to make sure that you keep up the use for over 3 months. The last couple of months are only 2 times a day so not much trouble. I have had several people tell me they quit and it came back. It is hard to kill and does take this amount of time.

After I quit it bothered me a week later so I used the wipes for 2 days more. Once more, it bothered me and I used the wipes for another 2 days and then it was gone for good.

You can use mascara while killing it. I posted about that too. Let me know if you need that info.

Thanks for letting everyone know it helps,

Thank you, Lynda 79, I caused myself a major flare up by using mascara this weekend, I think I will have to learn to go without it unless there is a brand which suits, yes I did use a disposable brush for each eye but ow! I will definitely stay the course with wet ones, best thing I have ever found.

I have been trying to use the wet ones and am having trouble

with them. It feels like my under my eyes have been burned. No matter how I wrap them around my finger, or any of the other ways I have tried, I still have the problem.

Also, I want to make sure I am doing it correctly. I cut the wet

ones in to 8 pieces. I open my eyes and do the bottom lids. Then I close them and do the top lids. Then repeat a second time. Is

      this correct?

I also have another question. Do i scrub each eyelid back and

forth several times, or do I swipe one time on each and then do itagain when I do my eyes the second time?

Mike, I cut the wipes into one inch pieces, and wrap one around a q-tip, one for each eye. This way it only touches the edge of the eyelid, and not under the eye. smile Don't give up, it works.
