One week using "Wet Ones" with Benzethonium Chloride

Posted , 128 users are following.

I have been using Wet Ones as recommended by Lynda79 (Clean eyes 4 times daily using 1/4 wet one) for one week

I can report the following.

Initial State:- Eye irritation/soreness/dryness including corneal ulcers, etc which I have had for over 2 months continually. Requiring washing approx 3-4 times daily with warm water, baby shampoo, eye drops etc..

When starting with the Wet Ones, I initially felt slight stinging around the rim of the eye, but this stopped after 24 hrs use.

After 3 days:- A lot of relief, maybe rinse eyes with just warm water if they felt dry.

After 7 days:- I have forgotten that I have blephoritus. Have to remind myself to clean eyes with Wet Ones.

I will continue to use the wet ones, now cutting down to 3x daily as recommended by Lynda79, and will update again next week. Hope this helps somebody, and many thanks to Lynda79 for sharing this.

    Hi lynda,

Is this the scrub that your friend used?

This one also has Benzethonium Chloride in it, so I'm hoping this will do the trick as Benzalkonium didn't seem to work too well.

    Thanks

Acet19, what's the name if the scrub you're linking to? I tried the deep pore one I mentioned earlier in this thread and it did nothing for my eyes. I'm still looking for another option because I had a reaction to the lanolin in the wet ones.

    Dear Eric,

You can go to the chemist (drugstore) and ask them to help with a product with Benzethonium Chloride in it. You can google and ask what products have Benzethonium Chloride in them too.

I found that the makeup products were reformulated with an aspirin ingredient.

    I will look around too.

I am really intrigued by thus post but want to know how you apply the wet ones to your eye lids(lashline) do u close your eyes to do the top lid or do you do something else?

    Dear Adrian,

I kept my eyes open for the bottom one and rubbed on and above the lashes. The top I rubbed upwards and then closed my eyes and rubbed on top too.

Just make sure you are not allergic to shampoos or detergents or fabric softners, etc. Some 16.5% of 959 people are allergic to ammonium salts or compounds.

This does take a while but starts to work right away. Google the Benzethonium Chloride and you will see how it works. Honjon used another wipe sold in the UK and that ammonium salt or compound worked too.

They use these in medicines for the eye too. The problem is they put it in the eye and it should be put on the lashes to kill it. I even told one doctor that and he said some gets on the lashes.

It did take me several months to kill it.

    Hope this information helps you.

Hi there, my procedure is as follows:-

    1) cut wet wipe into 4 pieces.Repack 3 pieces.Cut 1/4 wet wipe into 2.

    2) Using 1/8 wet wipe, use 1st corner as follows.

    3) While looking in (magnifying) mirror pull up top eyelid and wipe inside lashline two or three times including just inside edge of eyelid, but taking care not to wipe eye surface!!

Then close eye and wipe across and away from outside of top eyelash line two or three times.

Use 2nd corner of wet wipe as above on bottom eyelid.

Use 3rd corner of wet wipe as above on same top eyelid

use 4th quarterof wet wipe as above on same bottom eyelid

Finish with wipe around eye area including eyebrows.

    4) Repeat for other eye using other 1/8 wet wipe.

    Hope this makes sense...

The whole procedure takes about 5 mins and costs less tha 1/2 penny (UK).

Hope this helps and thanks once again to Lynda 79 for providing the help and information for this.

    Regards Honjon

Hi thanks for all ur input and I'm in the uk so could you please tell me what wet wipes you used so I can purchase some, thanks

      Dear s92333,

Honjon told me he used the UK wipes. I used the US , red package, wet ones wipes. Some have said that the UK ones are strong or more irritating.

Both have Quats in them. The US ones have Benzethonium Chloride and the UK have Benzalkonium Chloride in them.

      Hope this helps,

    Hi

My only problem is that my eyes seem to go even redder when I use wet ones!!!

Also very dry under the eye and on the eyelid. So I'm still {3 yrs on going to the hospital} at the moment its antibiotics {oral} gradually they are getting worse.

Useless up here in the North East as far as eyes are concerned. The only diagnosis I've

got in that time is Blepharitis/dry eye/and "more going on in there"???? What the heck does that mean.

Give me a diagnosis {even if its chronic} and I'll cope but without a diagnosis I'm floundering

Sorry lol Didn't mean to moan

I'm so frustrated.......I think its about 5 weeks until my next appointment

Eileen I have been using the Wet Ones for almost 2 years and my eyes are clear.  I still us them once in the AM and once in the PM for prevention and if they strat acting up I use tem 4 times a day. I ust the ones in the red packet that Lynda uses. I ordered a case from Amazon to keep on hand. I was desperate and found Lynda's post and and have so grateful for her ever since. My brothers have had success with the wipes and so have some firends.  I told my optometrist and he is very forward thinking and open to new things.  He was impressed and has told other patients who have used them and got good results as well. Good Luck...I know first hand how miserable this condition can ,ake you.

    Dear Eileen,

The Drs can give you a perscription with some Benzalkonium Chloride. Put it on the eyelashes and outside eye rims. The perscription will have a lesser amount in it as it goes in the eye. People on the site have mentioined it.

The wipes are .03%. Perhaps that will help you as at a lower dose. If not I sent you a message about an antibioitic to perhaps you might want to try on the eye area (on lashes and rim).

Talk to your Dr. about it as I would try as want to get rid of it if I could not use the wipes.

These are just several options to talk to your Dr. about.

Sorry you are having such a terrible time with this.

    Thinking of you,

Lynda, I am still grateful to you for posting about the Wet Ones.  I have been using them for a year and a half and my eyes are the best they have ever been.  I ordered a case from Amazon so I would not run out. I have also shared with firends and relatives and they have success stories as well. I have a wonderful optometrist and he is impressed and has shared with other patients too and they have been getting good results, I still use them once in the AM and ince in the PM as prevention. So glad you shared your info and I am doing likewise.

    Hi Lynda

Read your pm first.........so I've answered that.

I will also check with the GP but he isn't happy about interfering when I'm going to the eye

    hospital for treatment

    and as for him.......

He knows what he is doing {he thinks!!} and will not be told other wise.!!!!!!!! mad

I mentioned my hip replacement to you originally and then the fracture in the bone beside

the hip ages ago I think.....that's another reason I'm so "down" I'm worse than I was before the op.......so the eyes on top of everything!!!!!!!! Last straw!!! rolleyes

    Dear Eileen,

What are they doing for your fracture? It takes a year or more to get back to normal with the hip even if there is not a fracture. I am going by my husband's hip. He is doing great now. So give it time. Concentrate on things you can do for yourself.

If you get desperate enough you have Doxycycline pills and can dilute them see if they work on a tiny part of the lash. That would be the last resort to try.

Try all the Dr's first and see if they can see the logic of it.

Hope you get some relief soon as I know you are miserable. My Mom had her female part taken out and the Dr. said she was good at 6 weeks. A nurse told her it would be a year and it was. There is more to healing then stitches looking great and walking. Normal took a year.

Sometimes it helps to read and be taken away from reality. Try books on CD from the Library if your eyes hurt.

Thinking of you and wishing you help soon.

    Hi Lynda

    Just answered your pm lol

My fracture .......there is nothing they can do for it is what I was told.

I had a hip replacement 4 years ago and was in hospital for 3 days {same as this time} had the 6 weeks restrictions ....After that I wasn't bad......I have kyphoscoliosis {C shaped curve in my spine} and that was getting worse gradually but nothing to do with the hip replacement. You know what arthritis is like...degenerative. But I knew what was wrong and was coping.

Driving, volunteering, on committees, out for coffees with friends etc

This hip replacement was OK for the first 4 weeks of recovery and then this fracture.

Went in by ambulance on Sunday and was out on Tuesday. Strong Pain Killers and "nothing we can do about it. It will heal itself" It will take a long time.....eventually someone said another 6 weeks.???? That could have been to shut me up smile I'm 4 weeks into that extra 6 weeks. Can hobble about on one crutch at home but outside I need 2 and cant walk far with those.

I have tried to walk inside {where there is furniture about} without anything and I "lurch" is the only way I can describe it.

I'm still sleeping on my back which for me is awful. 6 weeks and now another 4 weeks up to now. The one good thing is I have an appointment with the physiotherapist on Tuesday. I've been seeing him for a long time but this is the first since the fracture. I do trust him so we'll see what he says. I then have to see the orthopaedic consultant the following week. So I'm thinking about those 2 dates.

    My little car is sitting there doing nothing sad wink I really relied on it with not being able to walk far at least I could drive......Don't think I could now because of my eyes {for a while anyway}

    Sorry for the moan neutral

What did your husband have done to his hip?

As for the eyes....I've answered on the pm.

    Eileen
