A medical study by Petruzzi found 5 out of 10 with OLP have HCV hepatitis and a quick web search suggests it is associates. A leading liver professor at Royal London (Prf Foster) told me OLP usually goes if HCV virus is cleared. Maybe worth having test for hep c just to eliminate that connection

I know this post is old but want d to mention that I had the Hepatitis C virus for at least 20yrs ( dormant) and was recently treated- I have been clear of Hep C for over 4 months but 2 months ago, developed Oral LP.

Coincidentally when being treated for hep C, I was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis .LP is an autoimmune condition so this lines up or it could have been triggered by treatment meds ?!

Hi, I was just recently diagnosed with olp, but have suffered with symptoms a long time.

I was recently tested for hep c, but turned out negative.

However, I do have hpv and hsv2.

      Also have ulcerative colitis.

      Wondering if there's a connection???

Recently diagnosed too, waiting for dental hospital appointment. Don't know if it's just my imagination but have found a certain new chewy sweet, lemon or orange seems to help! Not sure why but think they may help with keeping mouth moist. I bought them just to try but a few days later noticed my mouth getting uncomfortable which settled again after I got more! No cure but certainly help. Plan to stop the sweeties and see what happens. By the way I feel that taking NSAIDs for my psoriatic arthritis was the trigger! Stopped that too.

During my latest flare up of oral  lp my daughter suggested trying coconut oil. She had been reading about it and uses the coconut water herself. I tried the organic virgin cocount oil in a jar. It is solid at room temperature and you can rub it on to your gums. It gave instant relief from the pain. If your gums are too sore to touch you can leave it in your mouth a for a few seconds and it liquifies and you can run it around your mouth accessing the hard to reach areas. You can then swallow it. Not sure if there will be any long term benefits but it can't hurt. I don't have a problem with nuts so I'm lucky in that sense.

Also re lp of the vulva, the hospital prescribed balneum cream which I find really useful. It keeps the area moisturised and you can use it as many times  a day as you need. Wouldn't be without it.

I just used the coconut oil and no joke relief right away. I'm going to use it a couple times a day I'm also going to pick it up in a pill form. OLP, knock it off we don't have time for this nonsense.

Did it really work? I have some unopened that I just bought I am having a really bad olp flare right now. I hate using these strong medicines that all say not for oral use and the docs say just ignore that , but oh yeah we have to check your liver and your eyes and you may go bald !!!
