Orlistat Check In Group

Posted , 17 users are following.

I thought I would make a wee group where all of us who have just started recently (or join up later) can come to ask questions and give updates. Saves us all making a new discussion all the time. Feel free to join in...or not!

Update:

So I am starting day 5 and finally noticing some effects of the pill. No accidents or anything, but I am going to the toilet more regularly (from once every 2-3 days to 2 times PER day). Less transit time means my body will absorb less of it which hopefully = weight loss. I refuse to use the scale until I have done it for at least a week. I don't want obsess over it every day.

Question:

I was looking over that Norfolk guide suggested but at one point it advised like 5 slices of bread before noon. If I eat 5 slices of bread in any day I will never lose weight..I know some people will start the whole ''calorie is a calorie'' but from a Biological perspective I would highly disagree. Without getting to technical about it I will just say over 14 years I have experiemented enough to know that my body is HIGHLY sensitive to simple carbs (wheat, sugar, potatoes etc). SO my question here is...are any of you guys following a sorta Low carb and low fat approach? By low carb I do not mean fruit/veg, just simple carbs like bread, pasta, rice, potatoes etc.

I think it's important to remember that we are unlucky in that we suffer weight fluctuations for so many different reasons, e.g. Period, ovulation, water weight, hormonal changes. Keep at it ladies though I know all too well how hard it is when the scale doesn't do what it should. Also bear in mind you're getting healthier and changing bad habits which is a great thing. I'd also recommend measuring yourself, especially gym bunnies - as some weeks the scale might not change but measurements will.

Can I recommend getting the app/using site MyFitnessPal. I've used it for years. You fill in your food diary and can easily see what carbs/nutrients/cals/fat you're eating and maybe make adjustments to see if that helps when the scales aren't moving?

Does anyone know if you don't eat the recommended fat intake does it affect the tablet working ?

My measurements have changed but I don't go to the gym yet I do exercises at home as I find people stare when at the gym

I don't think think it affects it working. I think the fat intake guidance is more focussed on not going over that limit (e.g. For side effects).

So tomorrow is officially 2 weeks.

Of course I just had to have a sneak peak today didn't I?! Ha.

Anyway I am back to my original starting weight. So.. I lost a kg this week...but it was the kg I put on in the first week of taking the pill...so eh.. I think I am pretty much a no response yet.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed. I mean I guess it means my diet is maybe not the problem, because otherwise I would be having ''bad side effects''. At least not where fat is concerned anyway.

But I really want this to work. I have tried diet and excercise for years now. I have tried extreme diets (juice fasts, low carbs, slimfast...). For the last year and a half I have been logging everything I eat and exercising, staying under calories and whatever. Ugh.

Just feeling frustrated at the moment.

    Yesterday I had:

Breakfast- Smoothie (low fat natural yogurt, frozen strawberries and blueberries, spinach)

Lunch- Home made soup (onion, carrot, celery, tomato, sweetcorn --no fat, sugar, or salt added in), two cream crackers

Dinner- ''Chicken enchilada'' (1 tortilla, 60g chicken, 60g tomato pasata, 1 tbsp of cheese, and seasoning) with a side salad (no dressing)

Snack- cappuccino (homemade, semi skim milk, no sugar) and go ahead cookie bites that are 99 calories bag.

As you can see it is definitely within calories, pretty low fat, not to high in carb - though usually I wouldnt eat the tortilla or crackers --I would have switched it for more protein.

I hope you guys are having more success!

Lets hope week 3 brings better success.... sad

I'm actually thinking now that maybe the tablets aren't working for me but will stick with them till the end of the 3 months and see where I am x

I am thinking the same. Keep going with them and maybe it is just taking a little time for my body to adjust or something.

It's just so blooming hard isn't it when you know you're doing what you should & its having no effect.

Maybe you'll have an overall monthly loss rather than week on week. I think this is why you only get them for 3 months initially to see if they work for you or not.

I have found that if I have the odd 'day off' & eat/drink food normally off limits it shocks my body, stirs it up a bit & has lead to a better loss. Our bodies get complacent when they become used to the norm. If you've been following a similar diet for some time it could be time to mix things up? I think thats why the 5:2 diet works. My theory is that when I want to test an idea at the end of the day by trying something new for a week its only 1 week of my life & why not try it...BUT that's the advice I follow myself, I'm not trying to persuade you! x

i think il be coming off orlistat I feel it's not helping I feel hungry all the time and I'm drinking at least 3 litres of water a day and exercising, losing very little if any

I've only been on them 2 weeks and not sure if they are making a different but I'm going to join slimming world as I know it works as my friend has lost 4 and half stone

I will ride it out. 2 weeks isn't enough to determine if they are really working or not. Valentines/period/body adjusting could all be affecting it at this point. I would expect to hopefully see some change after a month. I only got a month supply as well so I assume the doctor expects the same.

I guess I will decide then if they are or arent working. If I have any loss beyond my start I will hope to go for the 2-3 month supply and see if I can build on it. Maybe it just takes a little longer for it to start working for me. smile

I believe that we only get 1 month at a time but overall you need to hit your 5% target at the end of 3 months to be able to continue them. You then need to lose a total of 10% of your start weight by the end of month 6 to continue them further. If you don't meet the target's its taken as proof that they unfortunately don't work for you.

So you have to have monthly checks with your GP? I've got my 2nd check next week...eeek!
