An ultrasound scan has detected a big 23cm ( 9.5 inch ) ovarian cyst. I am 62 years old have no pain but a very large swollen stomach, Has anyone had such a large cyst or had a cyst at my age? If yes please let me know how the surgery went. My surgeon is treating my case as urgent and tomorrow I go for a MRI scan with surgery to follow asap.

Due to insurance problems here in the US, i was not able to schedule surgery until i was able to get insurance through the state. Finally the beginning of November i was able tip get insurance and get the ball rolling. My surgery was finally scheduled for November 20th. Unlike most total hysterectomy's i had to have an abdominal versus laproscopicly done. I was in the hospital for 3days. And have been home now for 2weeks. It is quit painful. But am glad to have it done and on my way to healing up. I get very tired just doing easy things like showering, or blow drying my hair. But every day gets easier, i was so scared for the surgery, but thats the easy part, after wards healing and not being able to do normal activities is the hard part. I found a great website called hystersisters that answered a ton of my questions i had about pretty much Any thing. I hope you get this done soon and heal quickly.

A week ago my mom 60 years old went for her routine physical and the doctor suggested an ultrasound because she felt something in her abdomen. Her bloodwork and urine came back fine. Her ultrasound results came back and everything was fine except for a 24cm ovarian mass on her ovary. Tomorrow she is going for a cat scan. I am extremely worried that it can be cancer.

i hope your surgery went well and that you are now feeling a lot better! I’m facing a total hysterectomy within a couple of weeks. I can’t wait to have this large, hard mass removed, but I’m afraid to find out the results too. Let me know how you are. Sending prayers and hugs!

You need to follow up with the dr's office to get on the schedule, these procedures are scheduled a month out. I was able to get on the schedule the following week simply because there was an opening and I was not on any medications or vitamins. Patients have to be off from me ds for 2 weeks prior to surgery.

i have one very large mass on my left ovary that is 20cm x 13cm x 20cm. It’s suspicious and I’m scared. I also look like I’m pregnant and hate to go out. Hopefully I’ll be having surgery within two weeks. They have done a ton of tests and my CA125 is elevated but not super high. I understand how frustrated you must be and hope to hear that by now you’ve had surgery and are feeling lots better and that you got good news. Please let me know how you are. Sending prayers and hugs!

When I was 22, I went to the emergency room with severe pain in my lower right pelvic area. An ultrasound showed that I had a 23 cm mass on my right ovary that had started to twist my ovaries around. They rushed me into surgery to remove the mass and it turned out to have been a mucinous cystandenoma. The scariest part about the whole ordeal was the fact that I had been to the gynecologist 2 weeks prior and was checked for cysts. She told me I had none so, it must have grown that large in a VERY short amount of time. Though I didn't have any proof, I was fairly certain it was caused by the birth control I was on at the time. (Nuvaring) Then, yesterday, I had to go to the emergency room again with the same pain on the opposite side. They, again, found a mucinous cystandenoma only it was significantly smaller (7 cm) and had ruptured. I have not been on birth control since the first incident in 2015 because I was afraid of it happening again. PCOS has been the most difficult and painful medical issue I've had to deal with in my young life so far and I've had over 10 surgeries since I was 18. My greatest fear is that because of it I'll never be able to have children and that I may lose the organs all together. I don't know if this helps at all, but just know you're not alone.

Hi Savannah
They recently found a 24cm cyst on what appears to be my right ovary. I am young too and I have the same fears as you. I am awaiting an MRI to see it better. I wonder how long it's been there, I haven't had any pain. I am overweight and any discomfort or occasional pain I assume it's from being overweight. What is interesting about what happened to you is that it seemed to come out of nowhere. I was on Nuvaring as well for a short time, I wonder if that is how it developed? My gynecologist said that in some instances they do use birth control to shrink it.
I hope you get well soon and you are still able to have kids. For me it helps to think about worst case, livable case, best case and better case. Something livable for me, I lose my uterus and can't have biological kids but I can adopt. Best case, I don't lose any organs, and in surgery they remove a bit of excess fat. Better case, I can have kids, they remove fat, and it solves some other health issues. 3 out of 4 good scenarios. Maybe that's just me!
