Ovarian Dermoid Cyst - Very Painful!!

Posted , 124 users are following.

I started having pain in my lower left side in October of last year, it wasnt too bad so I didnt go to the doctors until january as I thought it may go away. I suspected I may have a Cyst and told the doctor and he refered me for a scan. I had a scan in mid Feb and I was diagnosed with a Dermoid Ovarian Cyst, it was about 3.5cm. I had another scan the other day and it has grown to 5cm. I have been refered to a gynocologist and been told that its going to take 20 weeks. I went back to the doctors because its causing me a lot of pain, but he said just to take pain killers (which doesnt really help) Iv been getting really really tired lately and doctor thinks that it could be related to the cyst.

The pain is getting me down, today I was in agony, I had a really sharp pain and I couldnt move, I was in tears. Im not going to be seen for another 4 months at least and I dont know what to do! Im worried its going to grow bigger.

Has anyone else been through similar experiences? How can I relieve the pain, Iv tired pain killers and warm baths but nothing works. Im only little and worried about how big the cyst is going to get, how quickly do these things grow? Mine got 1.5cm bigger in 5 weeks, so Im hoping it might stop for a bit!

Thank you

Hey everyone. Had my surgery today. Ended up having laparotomy. Now need to stay in the hospital for 2 nights which isn't too bad. My gosh, my stomach is sore and bloated. I think I'm bothered more by the bloating than anything. And boy oh boy is coughing the hardest thing! I'll keep everyone posted on my recovery.

    Thanks for the input smile

hi everyone i had an ultrasound about five weeks ago and a huge ovarian cyst was found.while i was still with the ultrasound man he sent urgent fax to my cp for me to be referred to an oncologist. I have been really worried as my ca results came back at 228. I had a ct scan and was still told nothing. went back to see oncologist today expecting the worst and was told I had two dermoid cysts measuring 27cms. I am booked in for surgery on 27th march for removal of cysts and hysterectomy. wasnt sure about hysterectomy but surgeon said I should recover fully will take about three months . Am so relieved not cancer. viv

Good luck on your surgery. I'm 6 days post-op and feeling better today. Yesterday was a brutal day for me. Stomach hurt so bad...more upset than anything...not sure if related. I get exhausted VERY easily and already going stir crazy being holed up in my bedroom. Did anyone else have trouble sleeping on their side? It's very uncomfortable but worse when I roll back over to my back, my stomach kills for a minute.

Other than that, all us well smile

I believe the surgery you had is what we all refer to as laparotomy. It's been a week for me too since mine and I had a lot of "gas" pains..sometimes very painful. I don't know how long the pain will last for as mine has gotten better. I believe the average recovery time is 6 weeks but maybe someone who is farther in their recovery can better answer your question smile

Hi I am 41, never had children or been pregnant.

Last Jan'13 I started having symptoms which my gp put down to kidney stones, I had 2 ultra sounds through the year both came back negative.

In about Oct I had severe pain in my pelvis and thought I was peeing blood, alot of blood, I went to my gp who prescribed me antibiotics for a kidney infection.

On my last us in Dec the radiographer found a small cyst on 1 side, fibroids and a large cyst, 5.5 cms.

My periods have always been nasty things but last week was just awful, I thought I was haemorrhaging I was losing so much blood.

I went to my gp who apologised profusely for mistaking my symptoms and straight away referred my to gyn and a blood test.

My blood test came back normal, thankfully and I saw the gyn 2 weeks ago.

The registrar wanted to treat me as an urgent case, she did not like the look of the larger cyst.

However when she spoke to the consultant who disagreed and wants me to go back in 6 weeks as I am pre - menopausal! I understand there is more of a risk in menopausal women for cancer but it does happen in women younger.

I have another scan tomorrow which I am hoping will bring the appt forward if they find anything untoward.

Ladies I know completely what you are talking about in regards to pain!

I have tamadrol and paracetamol during the day and a low dose of amytriptiline at night.

Hello im in the same boat im 25 years old and in febuary i got admittedinto hospital due to serve pain on the right hand side. It was tha painful i couldnt move or sleep for that fact. It all started in october the same as u and i didnt think nothing of it. When i went to the hospital had to have a CT scan i was in hospital for about 12 hours. Thet sent me home with nothing i had to get tramadol of my mum to ease the ain it was that bad. About a month letter i went to the gyne to find out i had a cryst on my ovaries i have no vlue how long that cyst was there for but when they measured it it came in as 10cm big, Thet sent me for another scan about 3 weeks later it was still there went bk to gynie only for me to hear from her that is was my weight causing this problem i felt like crying because they always blame my weight for everything. So all she said was loose some weight and come back to me in 4 month after u have had another scan. So now im waiting for my scan to come through so i can go, Some advice i know its very painful hun the only way i got through the pain and still getting through it now is to have tramdol that is the only thing that helps me but try not to take them all the time as they can be very addictive and after rest a warm hot water bottle on it and try not lying down as that whenmy pain seem to accure more. Hope it helps hun i feel your pain i know it very painful but try and bear with it they will sort it out and keep on there backs coz if u dont they will not sort it for u

best wishes to u hope u feel better soon

Hi my name is Shaterica , I am 21 yrs of age & I just found out a week ago I have a dermiod cyst on my ovaries. I been researching but I really haven't found anything to the question I'm about to ask you. What happen if your cyst ruptures before your surgery?

LADIES!! Make your body alkaline! Which means STOP EATING RED MEAT, DAIRY PRODUCTS, MILK AND CHEESE!! Instead you need to increase intake of organic leafy greens like spinach, broccoli, cabbage and kale. Red meat and dairy products contain large amounts of hormones that can mimic estrogen, thus producing ovarian cysts and a crap load of menstrual problems! Green leafy vegetables and an organic raw diet actually regulates your hormones and helps prevent cysts, menstrual problems and all kinds of other "women problems". Read the book Alkaline or Die. You need to make your body alkaline. Lemon juice may be acidic but when ingested it turns alkaline. Red meat is alkaline before eaten but turns acidic when digested. Most Americans eat a high fat, meat, cheese and dairy diet which wreaks havoc on your body! Ladies if u want a cure to ovarian cysts then do your research! Apple cider vinegar, aloe Vera juice, blackstrap molasses, DIM, black cohosh are just a few remedies to check out. I've had an ectopic pregnancy and ovarian cysts all my life. It changed a year ago when I changed my diet. No more extreme menstrual cramps, no more irregular periods and no more cysts! Good luck!

Hi there! Sorry, but I might have sent you another message regarding your post about making your body alkaline. I am using my phone and I think I hit a button that I wasn't supposed to before I was done my message. You had mentioned that you suffered with cysts in the past, and that you changed your diet to an alkaline diet and now the cysts are gone. I wanted to know if any of those were dermoid cysts. I was recently diagnosed with a dermoid cyst growing out of my left ovary. At the onset it was around 3 cm and it has grown to 4.3 cm in a few months. I have tried to keep my body alkaline but I had my stomach stapled years ago and it has been a challenge. Can you confirm if you had a dermoid cyst? My gynecologist says that they do not shrink. I do not believe that this is true. I believe the body can heal if given the right conditions. I want to avoid having surgery because I am not in agreement to having my ovary removed. They say they could run into complications if they try and maneuver around the overate to get the system out and that it could come back again if I don't remove the ovary.

I woke up at 1 am last Thursday night with my hands on fire then the feeling went to my feet, the next thing i know i was burning all over my body. My skin was red like a rash and then i started hurting on my left side and the pain kept getting worse. I could not even stand up it hurt so bad i was in tears and shaking all over. My feince call the ambulance and they took me to the hospital. At first they said they thought it was a kedney stone and ran some scans and found some cyst. When I was at the hospital less then a month before they said i had a cyst that should not cause me any trouble. Well the cyst and ruptured they said and would be no problems after that and sent me home with pain meds. Well told me to have bed rest for 3 days. Now i am still having discomfert and  nausious. No fevor though. My question to who ever can give advise. What do i do from here. I have had the most painful periods that puts me down each month and no doctor can exsplain to me why or what to do. My emplyer getting agervated about me being bed ridden each month. Also, to add the hospital can not exsplain why i was red and burning all over my body from head to toes.
