Ovarian Dermoid Cyst - Very Painful!!

Posted , 124 users are following.

I started having pain in my lower left side in October of last year, it wasnt too bad so I didnt go to the doctors until january as I thought it may go away. I suspected I may have a Cyst and told the doctor and he refered me for a scan. I had a scan in mid Feb and I was diagnosed with a Dermoid Ovarian Cyst, it was about 3.5cm. I had another scan the other day and it has grown to 5cm. I have been refered to a gynocologist and been told that its going to take 20 weeks. I went back to the doctors because its causing me a lot of pain, but he said just to take pain killers (which doesnt really help) Iv been getting really really tired lately and doctor thinks that it could be related to the cyst.

The pain is getting me down, today I was in agony, I had a really sharp pain and I couldnt move, I was in tears. Im not going to be seen for another 4 months at least and I dont know what to do! Im worried its going to grow bigger.

Has anyone else been through similar experiences? How can I relieve the pain, Iv tired pain killers and warm baths but nothing works. Im only little and worried about how big the cyst is going to get, how quickly do these things grow? Mine got 1.5cm bigger in 5 weeks, so Im hoping it might stop for a bit!

Thank you

Awww bless you... Yeh I know what you mean I felt really dependent on my best friend and my the ex boyfriend... They got me through the tough stages ... I was having a lot of pain still weeks after surgery... My cyst was a dermoid 10 x 11cm on my right ovary... Both were removed after the cyst had strangled my ovary... Don't ever feel like a drain on people because they will get you through at your lowest! I'm always here for a chat if you need to let off steam too ☺️ Xxxx

If ever in doubt please go to a&e because you can't hold that risk on your life... I was rushed in twice in the same day because the 1st time I for discharged with a kidney and bladder infection, I was on bloody gas and air the whole time of the journey to the hospital so can't remember much... Little did they know that everything else was going on in my body... The 2nd time I was actually known as a priority because that was my 2nd time I'd been there in 4hours ! I had MRI, ct scams done and ultrasounds (belly and vaginal) that's when they finally found my cyst and broke the news to me ! Please don't ever doubt yourself ok becaus you know your body better than anyone else xxx let me know how you get on xxx

Hey jassy smile hope your ok smile Erm the best advice is to either go to A&E or ask your GP for a ultrasound xx you can never be too careful... Mine was picked up by CT Scan and vaginal scan and belly ultrasound... I had a dermoid cyst of 11x10cm size of an orange and I was in agony... I called an ambulance and they had me on gas and air and then morphine to settle the pain! You know your body better than anyone else 😗 Never doubt yourself! Have you had any bloating or pain in kidneys or round the front of your belly like really bad period pains ? Xxx

    Hi Hun,

Unfortundately you just have a really bad doctor. I have the same a 3cm cyst (which is below the 5cm mark they require before they perform surgery) which is causing me really bad pain. They advised me to continue to take painkillers everyday (some days i do, some i dont) and they will send me a letter for referral. A week later i had a referral for a scan within a week and my surgery withing 6 weeks. You need to keep on to them or take yourself to A&E if the pain is unbearable as this is not normal to live your life in constant pain.

    Good luck!

Hi guys, my names lauren im 19 years old and have had a horrible year being in and out of hospitals 7 or 8 times. Two operations around 5 ultra sounds and internal several smere tests to rule out any gynacological damage. One MRI scan two CT scans various tests and blood tests and weekly check ups and on very high dosages of any kind of pain relief you could think of lol. My problems first started on july 6th 2015 i was about to start a new job as an office administrator as formally being a trainee recruitment consultant, my life was brilliant perfect boyfriend perfect home perfect family ive never had everything but ive always tried to make everyone proud. Anyway on the 6th July i suddenly came up with this horrendous pain in my right side and i was in agony  and i thought mehh its tummy ache pass me some paracetomol!! anyway as the days went by wednesday krept up and this was the day i had waited 2 weeks for i was starting as i mean to go on and had my first day at my new job. I was still suffering with the pains rolleyes i thought nothings ruining my chances ill keep it to myself and get on with things! so i went by my day and i hadn't felt well at all since sunday my eating had gone down dramatically i was a healthy 9 stone 10 girl who worked everyday and still attended the gym i was so active!! any so that wednesday i went by my normal routine myself and my partner and mum went to swimming i couldn't keep it to myself anymore i had to tell someone this pain was just horrendous i got home and my family found me doubled up in pain lying on my bed crying. I was rushed to hospital where i spent 5 days under investigation, i had a ultra sound and internal scan which they then noticed i had ovarian  cysts but for my age they turned a blind eye. That wont be the pain you're only 18 anyway pretty much ready to send me home i was getting worse and worse temperature was kreeping up dramatically i was set for an emergency laporospophy sorry my spellings are terrible but you get the gist! so i had my op they found 2 good sized cysts and and alot of fluid lingering in my pelvic area which was near where my apendix were because at this time they thought i had appendicitus. They removed my apendix and sent it off to the lab, for over 2 weeks it hadnt grown anything so they said my cysts must have burst and you'll basically be fine on tramadol and various pain killers, on your way! anyway long story short things just werent getting any better for me 2 months on i lost my job.. they were brilliant but they employed me for a reason and not knowing what was going on and various times trying to return back it was sure that this was much more that just a few cysts and fluid.. since then i have had sooooo many investigations like i explained earlier on by this time this was really putting down my confidence i hardly saw anyone it affected my relationship because it was so hard seeing me in so much pain and losing well over 2 and half stone and eating a few biscuits a day if that.. again this clearly wasnt normal but i couldnt help feel like i was just a loss cause this must just be my life now. So around september i was back in hospital for roughly my 6th time where i spent pretty much 2 weeks in hospital whilst they all twiddled they fingers! Through out these months it was coming clear it wasnt just a pelvic area problem they were more going on the lines of coeliac disease, crohns, colitus all to do with the gut as my weight has been affected massively. So my family paid privatetly to see the consultant i was suddenly taken into hospital. Fast forward to around about now basically my last time in one of the hospitals that i had been to it had been said that basically youre not dying you just have pelvic pain that is real but we dont know what it is so ill give it a big name and be done with you, so chronic pelvic pain syndrome was diagnostic and i was so pleased but then later to find out that its basically a name for something if they dont know what it is thats what it is... so we demanded more advise and got to see one of the main gynacolagysts and he came in sat himself down and said right hi lauren so whats your family life like and boyfriend do you have one? is it difficult is that what stresses you out, trying to imply i was out for attention and after a waste of a chat he was very quic to leave and just as he was gone he asked if i had basically seen anyone about my mental state any councillors? obviously a girl of my age on her own hearing that is going to be something that makes you cry and get very upset nurse came into me after did my blood pressure and im usually at about 80-90 100 if ive had alot to drink but fairly low all the time, the nurse did my blood pressure and he said WOW 245 so that doctor had worked me up that much i had got myself into a state!! i have had the worst 5 months i could of possibly imagined i feel like this is my life. Fast  forwarding on to about october november time about 4 weeks ago i was just so fed up and in so much pain i said to my doctor that was seeing me weekly i cant go on anymore i really cant, i want another scan to investigate my cysts because me and my mum really thought that it was something to do with that so we had an emergency scan 2 days later on that scan an ovarian cyst measuring the size approx of a tennis ball and think how i tiny i am at just under 7 and half stone!! it was full of blood and i was rushed to hospital for an emergency operation in which they would remove my cysts and remove any extra fluid so during the op they removed the cyst and drained one which was blocking my fallopian tube and there was a high risk of complications but by this time i wasnt bothered of the consequences i just wanted my life back!!! ive missed out on so much and i just want to feel better and happy and go out and eat loads!! so now im faced with looking long term removing ovaries and tubes and freezing my eggs because i want a family when im older its soooo important to me but i can't risk my life for the chance of maybe being able to have children i need to explore other options and i really would appreciate any advice on help to what do i do next ive literally done anything possible at this point because i am really so desperate so if any doctors or anyone can see me anywhere across the country i would go i just need some REAL advise so please anyone!!! thank you so much im sorry to explain my life story but im so in need of being a normal 19 year old girl with a future!!! thank you.

Hey Lauren ... WOW is all I can say what a rough few months you've had! Trust me I know the anger and worries you are having because I had a similar issue! I'm 25 and in March 2015 I was rushed into A&E with suspected appendicitis which they then ruled out after having done tests that it was a kidney and urine infection! 4 hours later after being back at home discharged with pain relief! I was then rushed into A&E again because the pain just got unreal and I couldn't take anyone touching let alone my bf at the time... I was rushed into a major injuries part of A&E and quickly dosed up on morphine, having had a ct scan earlier when I was rushed in first time she looked over the scan and realised something wasn't right ! I had a 10x11x10cm dermoid cyst on my right ovary! So to confirm that I had ultra and internal scans which proved it was correct! I was then told by the consultant depending on how big and how much damage the cyst had caused to my ovary, there was the chance of losing the ovary... Anyways cutting a Long story short I had my right ovary removed along with my dermoid cyst because the cyst had basically strangled it to death! I now face the 50/50 chance of falling pregnant in the future! My now ex bf didn't understand my lows and worries so he ran!

So I've been dealing with it on my own! But these ladies on here have got me through my tough times!

I still get the odd pains on my right side but my doctor reassured me and said that's just phantom pains! How are you doing on your recovery now ? Keep pushing for answers that's what I say because you know your body more than anyone else xxxx

      Let me know

      Stacey xxxx

Ohhh hey!!! Well thank you so so much and I can't tell you how happy I am and sorry that you've been going through this because it's like I'm in my own world where no one else quite understands don't get me wrong my family has been great and as has my boyfriend I'm so sorry that your ex was just a doughnut hahha. I'm sorry I sound excited that you've had such a tough time but it's having someone that actually is going through the same or has been and being on here has taken me to a be world hahha!

It's absolutely awful what you've gone through at such a young age it's so scary!! I'll tell you something funny!! I went for a scan last week end the nurse was there for atleast 20 minutes my left ovary has disappeared... Either I've signed away my ovary as a special delivery!! Bloody crazy and then it gets faxed over as an emergency and the doctors go all confused!!! It's like my body parts are practically being auctioned off!! For a girl my age it's scary but funny too!!! So I'm having a doctors appointment tomorrow to solve the mystery!! But I've been told it sinks into the bowel but little bit fishy soon after I bloody have an op with so many risks I get an ovary that goes walk about hahha!! So anyway my mystery goes on!! Just a question out of interest after you're ovary was removed did it improve you're pain at all?! Because I'm a the point I'm about to sign about my chance of having babies!! So I do feel like it's my only options but it's clearly not just a colour of shoes it's kind of my life.. Sorry to come down heavy !!! Hahha xxxxx
