Hi Everyone,

Sorry not been on for a few days have just had a read through to catch up with you all.

I got my blood results today so TSH 28.7 (was 49.75) T3 not readable (was 1.01) and T4 16 (was 4) so quite a mixed bag TSH seems to heading in the right direction as does my T4 but my T3 has dropped lower! That's 4 weeks today that I have been on Thyroxine, first week at 50mg and 3 weeks at 100mg. Doctor put a note on my results that I have to remain on 100mg for now. I wonder if I need a combined T4/T3 thyroxine I will ask the Doctor but that might be one for the Endo.

So not quite there yet, feeling ok seem to feel a wee bit better everyday, still tired and have the odd ache and pain still haven't lost any weight yet maybe your TSH needs to be within range before this changes? My heart is going a bit faster, resting pulse now around 52 which is not bad for me seeing as it was about 45/46.

Sue - what a shame, I agree with Marigold get back to the Doctors, have you been tested for anemia? A lot of the symptoms are the same as being Hypo just a thought. I've read about Armour but mostly on websites from the USA so don't know if its available here, ask your Doctor and let us know.

Barry - Glad everything checked out ok with your heart, let us know what your blood results come back at.

Jane - you are having a tough time aren't you, as you can see from my results above there have been some changes after 4 weeks but TSH still very high will be interesting to see how we feel after 6/8 weeks on thyroxine. I can feel a drop in energy from about 4pm onwards but I feel better again after my tea I don't know if thats a blood sugar thing or a thyroxine thing? I was hoping to go back to work at the end of next week but I don't know now if I should wait a bit longer maybe till week 6/7, but the half pay sucks!!

Debs stick in there, it is early days, I'm always trying to get to the next stage before I'm ready too I have no patience.

Marigold - yuck birds in the house I'm a bit scared of birds I wouldn't have been able to go in until they were away!

Bess how you getting on weaning off the propanolol, still feeling ok?

Hubby just in having done the big shop, I do love him, better go help him put it all away.

Have the best weekend you can folks,

    Me again,

Just found the following article about how T4 (thyroxine) is converted to T3, quite interesting and would explain why my T3 is unreadable and maybe Jane why you are feeling so bad, it could be that not enough T3 is in our systems yet.

Sue is your new blood test to see what your T3 levels are this might explain why you are feeling so rotten?

The two main thyroid hormones are thyroxine (T4, containing four iodine atoms) and triiodothyronine (T3, containing three iodine atoms). T4 is a slow-acting pre-hormone. Ingested T4 takes four days to peak in the blood, and the overall effects aren't reached for about six weeks. This slow, steady action is part of why most doctors prefer to prescribe it alone instead of with T3.

T4 is stored in the thyroid gland and in the bloodstream. It's a reservoir of hormone available to be converted to T3, the active and faster-acting hormone. The immediate effects of T3 last for one to two days.

The thyroid hormones travel through the bloodstream to every cell in the body, where they keep everything working optimally, like oil in an engine. Without enough thyroid hormone in its active state (T3), the metabolism slows down, resulting in lowered pulse rate, coldness, weight gain, and fatigue. Other body functions slow down as well — the mind can't function normally, skin becomes dry and flaky, hair falls out, muscles become cramped, and so on.[/color:175800753f]

Patient UK comment: The quote above was taken from http://www.altsupportthyroid.org/function.php I have added this as a ref just in case there are any problems with direct quoting from the source site. smile

    Hi All,

Kat eureeeka, That article was writen with us in mind I am sure. My doctor says that the levo is a slow acting drug that shouldn't make any immediate diference to how I feel.

He is completely wrong of course because it makes all the aches and pains completely disapeer as if by magic within about an hour. I too have a marked drop off point where it seems to just run out and the pains creep back. I am managing until after dinner this week but last week it was 3 in the afternoon.

For the first time in my life I have become a morning person!

I too have been reading about armour which seems a bit tricky to get your hands on. There are alleged issues with the stregnths of it not bieng constant. If it means making a diference to how you feel permenantly I'd take my chances with it.

Marigold, My strapping 6'5\" hubby would have had a complete fit with a bird flapping round the house as he is terrified of them fluttering, hope youve managed to clear up all the soot.

    Love to all

    Hello everyone

i just wanted to ask a question, how long did it take everyone for the panicky feeling to go,i was panicky when i first found out i had thyroid problems as this is why i went to the doctors but for 2 weeks ive not had that feeling at all untill thurs night and ive been panicky since.

i thought now my levels were going down that i wouldnt have this feeling but how wrong was i  .

every ache or pain i get starts to make me panic.

i also was lucky if i slept a few hours at night but i seem to be tired and sleeping a lot. i slept last night from 8 till 6 this morning and went back to bed at 8 this morning and slept till 10 ,the first time in 8 weeks i feel tired all the time.

    take care Deb xx

Hi Dave, good to hear from you, hope you ok. Nothing from Elaine. It would be lovely to hear from her. She was an enormous help and support to me when I was first diagnosed, as have you all since.

Deb. Sorry you feeling panicky, I know how awful that is. It took me quite a long time to settle down, the Propanolol was a lifesaver at the time. I noticed that I got very tired because as soon as I felt even the slightest bit better, I tried to do more, just to be more normal. I really paid for it though and had to remind myself that I just couldn't do what I normally would, and I just had to have frequent rests. So frustrating ! Dont push yourself too hard and you will soon feel better but its a slow old job.

Hope you all ok today, Ps. Deb, I got a relaxation tape from the library called Relieving Anxiety by Lynda Hudson. Its brilliant, I listen to it on headphones when I get the jitters and it always calms me down. You can buy it on Amazon. Take care. Bess xx

    Hello everyone.

Hi Sue. Have you made that appointment with the doctor yet? smile Are you feeling any better? It must be awful feeling so sluggish, especially when you were so full of energy before. You can come and power wash our drive when you feel better, it could do with a good clean.

Hi Deb. I hope you're feeling a bit better. You'll have good days and bad days. Remember it takes time to feel better, it doesn't happen overnight. Your panicky feelings will get better when your thyroid levels come down.

You'll be interested to see what your bloods show.

Hi Dave. Hope you're ok. It would be nice to hear from Elaine. She always cheered me up when I was feeling awful.

Hi Bess. You're right about trying to do too much when you feel a bit better. Even now when I'm feeling fine I get tired if I do anything out of the ordinary. I'm ok plodding along day to day, but anything exra and I'm worn out. Could just be old age though

Hi Barry. That's good news about your tsh. Long may it continue. smile

Jane and Kat hope you're ok.

    Take care everyone.

Hi Marigold ,hope you are safe up there in Scotland i believe you are going to get the winds worse than us ,my son said that driving home from Angelsy was a nightmare ,the winds lifting his car up at times ,Keep safe all of you. Iwas waiting for my doctor to come back from holiday on weds he has looked after me all way through my thyroid and not only that he is a handsome devil  ,i have had no word from my endo for another blood test and i dont no what stopped me phoning him this morning i wanted to shout at him for letting me suffer when a simple blood test would give him the reasons i am feeling like this ...even my daughter flew at me on saturday ,I dont know whats up with you mum you are like two sheets to the wind  just because i lost her baby buggy in a shop ,if they could only understand what it feels like to have no consentration no bloody memory and feel like s**t. I even burnt my pizza lol ..

Bess what were the letters you gave me for on a blood test form ,were they for something different to T3 ...Jane Kat and Debs hope you all are okay ....

    [/color:c17553ddf3]Hi Everyone,

Been back at the Doctors this morning, so she was happy that my levels are heading the right way but says its still to early to really be able to get an accurate reading, after finding that article on how the T4 needs to be converted to T3 and that it is a slow process has made me feel better about the whole process, just wish they hadn't let my levels go so underactive cause its a hell of a climb back up!

Anyway she has signed me off again for another two weeks but after that says I can go back to work 2 days a week then 3 days etc building up to my 5 days. I also have a week's holiday from 17th October so that's something to aim for.

She also gave me some cream for my eyes as she thinks I could have an infection, great! Still no weight loss but it sounds like your T3 needs to be near or in range for it to make a difference to the weight, that's what I'm telling myself anyway!

Sue - hope you get your appointment with your hunky Doctor soon and that he can get you on the road to feeling well. Have to say my memory was shot aswell but I notice a difference for the better over the last week. By the way its me that's up in Scotland and yes it is really really windy I had to chase the wheelie bin down the street yesterday :o

Debs - hope the CD has arrived and is starting to work, like Dave says after the RAI I noticed the panicky feelings getting better but then it all wen to pot after that for a while but they are getting better again now I'm on the thyroxine, stick in its a long road but you will get there.

Jane how are you getting on?

Dave nice to hear from you, how you doing these days?

Barry that's great about your levels long may they stay that way :D

Another cup of de-caf I think before me and the dog tackle the wind!

    Hi all,

Sue, how are you doing have you started to pick up yet?

Bess, how right you are (again) on Friday I felt quite good, so I stayed at work an extra two hours rather than come home with some energy left in me for once. You just can't help it can you doing more and then not feeling the benefit.

Marigold, what would our chaps do without us? Actually I'm not sure I want to know that one! It's a bit wild here there's 2 small trees uprooted in the garden, when it calms down we will try and save them. A couple of those heavy tree stakes should do it.

Kat, you are still making progress even if it's slower than you'd like. I'm two dress sizes bigger than normal which is getting me down if I'm honest. Nothing will shift it, for a few weeks I've remained static which I suppose is better than gaining. My GP said once they get my metabolism up enough to

tip the balance the weight will start to move. I'm the same as you slightly

better on the aches and pains front and my concentration is improved.

Debs, hope the panics are settling.

Barry, with a TSH like that are you drug free?

Hope everyone else is ok and not too windswept.

    Jane xx
