Hi Shazza. Sorry you're having problems with weight gain and hair loss. I was on a high dose of Carbimazole for a long time, and I didn't gain any weight. I didn't even put the weight back on that I lost with being hyper, and I still haven't. I think it varies from person to person. Hair loss is a symptom of an overactive thyroid as well as a side effect of Carbimazole. I was on steroids too which also cause hair loss. My hair felt like cotton wool, but it's getting back to normal now. It's even shining again. smile I'd be asking your doctor to check your blood before February, I think that's too long to wait. Keep your chin up. It might not feel like it now, but you will feel better soon.

    Take care.

    Marigold.

Hi Sue. I'm pleased you managed to get an appointment. It makes me mad too when no one has the decency to phone back. This illness is bad enough without being messed about. Stress is one of the symptoms, and when you have to keep phoning and phoning and no one will speak to you it makes it worse. I hope you get the result from your ECG. My heart seems to beat really fast for a few seconds, and then it goes back to normal. I only go to the doctors when I have to, it's hardly a pleasant outing is it? Then when I do go my GP doesn't seem to have a clue. I'm pleased you're taking things a bit easier, resting isn't my style either. xx

Hi Jane. I didn't know there was a seasonal element to the thyroid. That's interesting.I know what you mean about feeling you're shaking when you're not. I feel like that sometimes. I hope you hubby's results come back soon, and then you'll know where you stand.

Deb, glad you're feeling a bit better. Has your urine infection settled? It's a miserable illness to have.

Are you ok Kat? I can't remember if you're on holiday this week.

Bess. I don't have the energy I used to have either, and my memory's shot. I can't remember names. I used to have a really good memory. I'm still very jumpy, but I'm loads better than I was. I think you're right not to stop the Propranolol when you're cutting down on the carbs.

    Thinking of everyone else.

    love,

    Marigold

Hi Barry. I've just seen your post. That's good isn't it? Well done!!!!!!! :D

I have my next blood test next week. It's 3 months since the last one. If it's ok I have another one in 6 months, and then 1 year after that. Then I have it checked every year. The last two have been T4 18 and TSH 0.27 the first test and 0.58 the second. The endo is pleased with that, and he says the RAI has worked.

    Keep in touch.

Deb. What a carryon you're having with your GP's surgery. It's disgraceful. Can you speak to your GP on the phone to ask about taking the tablets with the other ones you're on? If not it might be a good idea to speak to the pharmacist, and see what he advises. I hope you get it sorted. Take care.

    Thinking of everyone.

    Hello everyone

marigold i phoned the doctors today and she said there fine to take together so i phoned the chemist to double check and they said make sure to space them out and not take them both at the same time, at least a hour apart so its put me off and ive not dared to take them sad

im funny like that with tablets sad .

Sue it might not be so busy at that time if the schools are off where you are, as for the doctors im fed up with mine at the mo as everything comes to a stand still just because there having a new computer system, you carnt have your blood took, carnt book a appointment ,carnt get repeat Prescription carnt even get a sick note, sorry for the rant but i dont think everything should stop .

    how is everyone

    Take care Deb xx

    Hello everyone.

I had my bloods checked yesterday. T4 15. TSH 2.29. Hows about that then? I'm chuffed and the endos chuffed. I don't need another blood test for six months unless I start to feel ill. :D

Sue. You'll be pleased when you get your test over with tomorrow. Allow yourself plenty of time to get there then you won't get too stressed. I hope everything turns out ok for you.

Kat. I'm pleased you had a good holiday, the change would do you good.

Are you back at work now?

Hi Deb. I'm sorry you're having problems with your tablets. I think sometimes you get more help from the pharmacist than the doctor. Are you feeling any better?

I haven't heard anything like the carryon at your surgery. It shouldn't take that long to put a new computer system in, and they should make other arrangements for the patients while they're doing it.

Are you ok Jane. Has your hubby had the result from his scan yet? I hope he's ok.

    Are you ok Bess?

    Thinking of everyone.

    Love,

    Marigold

I am so glad that I have found this forum and see that there are others who have and are suffering with the same symptoms as me; I really thought that I was going mad!

I am 53 years young woman and I was diagnosed with an overactive thyroid back in July and have been taking Carbimazole and Propanadol since. I have had one appointment with a specialist at the hospital, who basically said just to carry on with my medication, going back to see him next week and have had various blood tests since my appointment.

What I am really struggling is with work, I work in London and have a two hour commute, at first they were very supportive about me being unwell and not being able to get into work. At the moment my GP has signed me off sick, it’s the tiredness and not being able to concentrate that is getting me down, maybe if I had a good night sleep I might feel better. This time my manager sounded as if he didn’t believe that I feel so unwell.

I was wondering if anyone has any idea how long you feel so unwell for?

    Thanks Maria

Hi Maria. Welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry you feel so unwell, it's an awful illness. Once the Carbimazole brings your thyroid levels down you will start to feel better What dose of Carbimazole and Propranolol are you on? .

I don't go out to work, but I know when I was really ill last year I couldn't have coped with work. You have a long commute too. I think because we tend to look ok we don't get an awful lot of sympathy. Sleeping is a problem, I don't sleep very well, some of the other people on the forum use relaxation tapes.

I find it's a good idea to make a list of questions you want to ask the specialist. If you're anything like me you'll forget half of them if you don't write them down.

I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for the reply Marigold, I am on 5mg of Carbimazole 3 times a day, 10mg of Propranolol 3 times a day.

Maybe I should consider packing up work for a while, so that I am not so stressed about not being there!

    Maria
