Ozempic weekly shot

Posted , 30 users are following.

I am just over a month of diabetes diagnosis. I was put on metformin twice a day. I just went to new primary care and she wants to add Ozempic injections once a week. She says it has also helped with weight loss. Has anyone tried this yet?  And if so any advice or reviews?

    Vickie,

I have been diabetic for 35 years.  I have been on insulin since the beginning.  I was excessively overweight, and had a gastric bypass 10 years ago.  I lost 160 pounds.  My blood sugars went way down, but became very erratic.  I asked my doctor about Trulicity.  He suggested I try Ozempic, since I have heart trouble also.  That day my A1C was 7.8.  Two months later, I went back to the doctor.  I had dropped my insulin dosage by 25% throughout that time span.  I had lost 16 pounds in two months and my A1C was 6.9.  I have been on it another month, and I have lost anther 9 pounds, and my BS are running between 95 and 107 at fasting.  I do not have thyroid problems, which was the most important side effect.  It takes away your hunger, especially night cravings.  I am sold on it and would recommend it to anyone who is having difficulty with A1C variation and erratic blood sugars.  I am a unpaid spokesperson to all the doctors in my doctor's of how wonderful Ozempic is.

That sounds so encouraging!  I just bumped up to the .50 dose last week...but have already lost about 7 pounds and bg is much better. What is your dosage?

Some difference.  I was not hungry as much.  They have a 1mg dose.  I had thought about asking my doctor, if it would help my A1C  go even lower, but I will not see him until January.  Right now, I am content with the progress I have made.

I think I read a post a while where they talked about some of the diabetes meds were strong appetite suppressants.

Just something to keep in mind.

I've been on Ozempic since July. I started at .5, then moved to 1 and now I am on 2mg weekly. it has been a miracle for me. I am not diabetic, but I am significantly overweight, so it was prescribed by my Internist who specializes in weight issues. For the 1st time in my life, I don't even think about food. like, at all. I have been doing One Meal A Day (OMAD) and I am down 34lbs, so roughly 8lbs per month, which is a nice healthy rate. The only thing I am freaking out about is that yesterday I found a huge lump near where my thyroid is. This medicine has a warning about a rare side effect (thyroid cancer), so this is scary. I will be seeing my doc tomorrow. I do highly recommend Ozempic just as an appetite suppressor, it really kicks butt in that department.

      Hi

Just checking to see if ozempic was the cause of the lump on your neck and what was the diagnosis?

I'm thinking about going on it

      Thanks

I took Ozempic 1 mg for the very 1st time, Monday night around 11:00 PM, injection in the stomach, December 16, 2019. Tuesday while at work ( new position by the way), lunch break around 12:00 I got very nauseous, by 3:00 I was trying to hold it together, literally almost vomited, got home around 5:00 and vomited excessive amounts 4 times. It is Thurs, I am still horribly sick, taking zofran to keep it together at work, just horribly nauseous and literally vomiting, it is horrible, cannot wait to get this out of my system, and be the outgoing person I have always been. There are some reviews with it being good and doing what it is supposed to do without those side effects, but the majority are the same if not worse than me.

Were you taking a smaller dose before that? I just searched this up and it suggests 0.25mg for the first four weeks, the 0.50mg for four weeks, and then see how your BG is going ..???.

No, my doctor started me at 1 mg from the get go.

Well, that sounds like a problem right there. I don't really know, but a lot of these meds are easier to deal with if you start small.

Was your BG out of control?

      Has it gotten better?

      Are you also on metformin?

i tried it. did ok on .25 , some mild nausea decrease in appetite which was good. When i went up to .5 i developed severe migraines: pain in right temple and back of head, vertigo, nausea, light and movement sensitivity. i couldn't drive. i missed 10 days of work over 6 weeks. MD said it couldn't be ozempic so they did an mri. i stopped the ozempic - no headaches. tried it again - same symptoms. so i stopped completely. No migraines since. i learned to trust my symptoms and not the doctors. i have now tried over 6 different meds and if there is a rare side affect then i get it. sooo frustrating.
