Pain/discomfort under right rib cage.

I have been experiencing this for the last few months, I have been searching the web looking for answers. I am a 45 year old female, in good health, I take no medications, thin, active, I eat healthy, so I am at a loss. I have this feeling like there is something under my right rib cage as if something is stuck underneath or enlarged. At first I thought I had strained a muscle b/c I had been working out in the yard the day before it started. It doesn't hurt, it just feels like there is something there that shouldn't be but when I touch the area there is no swelling or bulge. After about 3-4 weeks when it wasn't going away I went to see my doctor. They did blood work, urine labs and sent me for an ultrasound of gallbladder, all came back normal. I have no other symptoms like nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, etc. just this feeling like something is there. It seemed to go away on it's own and then came back and has come and gone since sometimes lasting a few days, sometimes a few weeks. When it is back wearing a bra is uncomfortable. Sometimes there is a warmth or burning sensation in the area. The only other symptoms I have had that I think are related are these: A few months before this started I experienced a fluttering sensation, almost like when I was pregnant and the baby moved, in the same location, a couple of times. Since this has started, on 3 or 4 different occasions, I have experienced a charlie horse like spasm in the same area, below the right rib, when bending over from a sitting position. Does anyone have any answers as to what this might be? Does it sound like IBS? Peptic Ulcer? Hiatal Hernia?

I had the same symptoms and was diagnosed with slipped rib syndrome. After trying PT, injections, chiropractic care, etc....I recently had surgery to remove the slipped ribs. When they went in they found that two ribs were knocking against each other on my right side and another one was loose on the left side. They removed all three. It was difficult to find a surgeon familiar with slipped rib syndrome. In the end, I ended up having it done by a plastic surgeon, but, it mainly covered by insurance.
Try going to a thoracic specialist, rib specialist, or chiropractor, and having them check for slipped rib syndrome. My chiropractor was great. She figured out the exact ribs that were slipped - the pain points were actually on my sides and the inflammation was in the front causing the feeling of a baby's foot under my rib cage.

I went to an urgent care for something kinda similar...kinda...turns out I have a subluxated rib or two on that side. I can pop it in and out, it radiates discomfort from my back to right around that location.
I've had ultrasounds on my organs in there for other issues and it came back fine. How were your ribs?

I know this is an old thread but this is honestly the first time I have been able to find anybody with similar symptoms as me. I had my gallbladder removed then within a couple months a started getting the charlie horses in that area and as it started to subside it would move around (kind of like that feeling when a baby moves inside, not the butterflies) and I could visually see it too. That would only last a few seconds and then it was fine. It stayed like that for around 6 years then all of a sudden it just started hurting crazy bad without end. Constant pain, charlie horse, burning, stabbing, squeezing, and radiating pain to my back and down my arm. For over 2 years I went through endless tests and surgeries trying to figure out what was causing it. There is a lesion on my liver but its just a fatty liver. After everything the best diagnosis they were able to give me is phantom pain due to nerve damage from my gallbladder surgery. I should mention my gallbladder was very large, infected, and fused with my liver so it was a very bad situation. Throughout this time they treated my pain with different narcotics which didn't help and I became even more frustrated. FINALLY, I switched doctors because I'm so thankful I did because at least now my pain is controlled and its not with a narcotic which was only making it worse. Now I take Amitriptyline and it works far better than anything else previously. I have been on it for 3 years now. I don't know if my diagnosis is right but after that long being in that much pain I'm just glad to be able to live my life again and sleep.

i had my gall bladder removed over 15 years ago, had surgery for MALS, but, was having similar problems, inflamation and swelling under my right rib cage, the feelinf of pressure - almost like a baby was pushing my rib cage with their foot, for over two years. they finally figured out after many clear scans, tests, etc...that it was my actual ribs - I had Slipped Rib Syndrome. I recently had three slipped ribs removed. Two were hitting were knocking against each other. I'm still recovering, but, the feeling of something behind my ribs is gone.

I've had the same thing now for a few months. Right upper quadrant charley-horse type pain sporadically when I twist or bend just right. I too have said that it feels like when I was pregnant and baby's foot was up in my rib cage. When I get the pain I have to straighten my body out and rub out the pain. Don't know if this is related, but 2 years ago I had Shingles (without the rash) across that area and the area of pain is where I had the most pain and numbing effect with the Shingles. I have no pain otherwise, only the spasms when they occur give me excruciating pain. I did put on a back brace to kind of strengthen that area and it did help, so I actually purchased a hernia belt and wear that on occasion, it helps but then the rest of my body doesn't like it if I wear it for too long, like my other muscles get fatigued.

i have been to a few doctors and none seem to be able to figure out whats wrong. I even had a general surgeon go in my abdomen thinking i had hernias and he said he find nothing. He recommended me to a specialists who gives me cortizone injections. I will say though, when i get these cortizone shots the buldging and stabbing pain isn't quite as frequent.
I have had several abdominal surgeries in the past and I'm beginning to wonder if these strange symptoms are scar tissue that has attached itself to stomach muscles or organs.
I also was diagnosed with Fatty Liver Disease too. I was told it was hereditary. Could an enlarged liver be the culprit of these strange buldging stabbing and painful episodes? Is my liver so enlarged that there is no room in my abdomen for other organs to move and thats whats causing these strange episodes? I really wish I could find a doctor with some answers. I just cant keep living like this. I cant even bend over for more than a minute without these buldges popping out and being painful. So painting my toenails, tying my shoes, exercise (forget it) and the list of activities go on and on that i can no longer do. I want my life back !!

Slipped Rib syndrome is more common among people who have had abdominal surgery as it can happen during the surgery. I would go to a Thoracic specialist and have them check out it out. I could not bend or sit for almost two years. when I did, it would bulge out and I would look pregnant. I was unable to wear a bra or anything that compressed around my rib cage. For two years all I could wear comfortably were loose flowy blouses or t shirts.

I'm sadly in the same situation.. Been feeling a very uncomfortable tightness in right ribs for months.. Went to Doctors he recommended an ultrasound looking for an infected cyst or in connection with lymph nodes but reading the replies here it could be my gallbladder.
Does anyone get a fluttering feeling with tightness and feel shaky inside ???
Just wondering what helps ease the feeling and some advice be very welcome as at the moment ill try anything..
So relieved i found this thread as nobody understands me when i mention the feeling and tightness that radiates..
Good luck to everyone fighting this.

I am wearing a hernia support belt. It allows me to bend and do my usual things without bringing on the pain. I have no pain at all except if I move my body just right or bend over just right I have this charley-horse kind of feeling in the right upper quadrant. When I get this I have to stand erect and rub it out. I do feel like something "moves back into place" so I'm not sure if it is a hernia I have or some other issue. I do not recall doing anything that would cause a hernia. About 3 months ago we were in the car making a long trip and out of the blue I got a spasm and have periodically gotten them ever since.
Nearly 2 years ago I also had shingles and that area was the most sensitive and numb afterwards (coincidence? I don't know). I've been taking a chamomile tincture, supposed to be an anti-spasmodic. Hard to know if it helps because I wear the support belt. Please keep us updated on any findings you have regarding this.
I would try the hernia support. There are many out there.

The spasms are exactly what I get. Usually if I bend just right. Then I have to do the labor pain breathing until it subsides. It doesn't usually take to long but it puts me on my back just a minute or two but I would love to find out what's causing it. I have never had shingles and I still have my gallbladder. Please let me know if you get an answer.
