Pain/discomfort under right rib cage.

I have been experiencing this for the last few months, I have been searching the web looking for answers. I am a 45 year old female, in good health, I take no medications, thin, active, I eat healthy, so I am at a loss. I have this feeling like there is something under my right rib cage as if something is stuck underneath or enlarged. At first I thought I had strained a muscle b/c I had been working out in the yard the day before it started. It doesn't hurt, it just feels like there is something there that shouldn't be but when I touch the area there is no swelling or bulge. After about 3-4 weeks when it wasn't going away I went to see my doctor. They did blood work, urine labs and sent me for an ultrasound of gallbladder, all came back normal. I have no other symptoms like nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, etc. just this feeling like something is there. It seemed to go away on it's own and then came back and has come and gone since sometimes lasting a few days, sometimes a few weeks. When it is back wearing a bra is uncomfortable. Sometimes there is a warmth or burning sensation in the area. The only other symptoms I have had that I think are related are these: A few months before this started I experienced a fluttering sensation, almost like when I was pregnant and the baby moved, in the same location, a couple of times. Since this has started, on 3 or 4 different occasions, I have experienced a charlie horse like spasm in the same area, below the right rib, when bending over from a sitting position. Does anyone have any answers as to what this might be? Does it sound like IBS? Peptic Ulcer? Hiatal Hernia?

I came on here to finally advise what my discomfort has been. It has finally just been diagnosed after almost 3 years of results, I had everything done, scans, samples taken etc and all have been clear, even doctors advised it was something of a mysterious case.
I have something called ACNES ( Anterior cutaneous nerve entrapment syndrome) - a trapped nerve basically that sits in this area (right hand side upper quadrant and can pass downwards on certain days) however my specialist advised it tends to be missed during diagnosis of the organs. Next step is to have an injection to treat the pain and nerve.
It's been a long time searching for the answer and I finally have it, I hope this can help someone on here and rule out if you are still trying to get to the bottom of your symptoms.

ive not read all the replies so apologies if someone has already suggested this but ive got the EXACT same as all of you and ive had 2 kids and notice everyone ive read has been a female response - i have Diastasis Recti - split tummy muscles after having the kids and a lot of replies say they have Hiatus Hernia which is (the term used to describe a condition where part of the stomach pushes up into the lower chest through a weakness in the diaphragm. The diaphragm is the large flat muscle that separates the lungs from the tummy (abdomen) and helps us to breathe)
does anyone else have split tummy muscles? only thing which fully fixes it is a tummy tuck or so i hear 😦 so looks like i will be living with it

I have the same symptoms too but have had this since 2011 and have had endoscopy, CT scan, ultrasound and bloods tested, more than once and all to no avail. I even saw an upper GI specialist but was told that all the tests had been done and nothing more to investigate. The pain is quite bad this week and so I was so relieved to find I'm not the only one with similar symptoms, just wish we could all get a diagnosis and possible treatment. I take lansoprazole now which is supposed to help but I still have pain and discomfort (often in the car as some have mentioned) and stress definitely makes it worse, so I'm looking back to my diet and trying to reduce stress (easier said than done) I will go back to doctor this week but am not expecting them to be able to help much. Painkillers (strong prescribed ones) do work but I don't want to take them every day. Is very frustrating.

I have the same issue. Ultrasound showed common bile duct dilatation. No treatment was provided. That was a couple years ago and it hasn't been bothering me, but the last couple of weeks it has been back.

Have you found out anything yet? Its funny that I read this because I've been going thru similar events. I've been having trouble and going back and forth to doc for 3 months. Not only do I have continued pain under my rib and have felt like something was pushing out. Like you said something moving! My pain has been so severe these last few weeks. I thought I pulled something as well as this week it has calmed down a lot. I cannot bend, lift, push or put any strain on it whatsoever. But it is still there but a constant dull ache. Then last week I found hard lumps. My friend thought it was a hernia as I had bad acid reflux too but it is not that I'm told because they do not bulge out. So I am getting an ab ultrasound of that area. But pain is on my right side under my rib, on the inner side of my rib. Idk but I've been to the ER, and so many tests. I hope finally get it figured out because its so uncomfortable. Luckily, I work from my home but its still very uncomfortable even just sitting all day. I can't lift my little dog or even a gallon water. The pain gets excruciating. Hope you get better!

i just replied to this for someone else, i have the same problem, went to the dr had blood tests done had an US done and they found a small gall stone in the gall bladder and a small kidney stone in my kidney, but they said thats not the cause because they arn't moving. so after all kinds of reading and talking to my chiropractor, its been my posture and how much i've been sitting. when sitting at a desk looking at a computer i was rounding my shoulders and arching my back forward. when watching Tv i would sit on one foot or lean off to one side. it sounds crazy but after hours of reading and talking to people i found that it was my posture. see when you slough forward and roll your shoulders forward and so on, it pushes your organs up and puts pressure on all the organs. and also causes pain and or pressure in your back. so i started making sure i was standing up Straight and rolling my shoulders back , kind of holding in my stomach a little and the discomforts started to go away. so now i'm starting to do some core strengthening exercises.

I wish I had an answer. I came here hoping to find answers. I am having the exact same issues, down to the tingly/burning and fluttering sensations. I'm starting to really worry about what is going on.

Hi, i've had the same problem for some time now, pain and Discomfort , had an ultra sound done lab work done . they found a gall stone and a kidney stone but they shouldn't cause pain, I've had problems with ibs , had all the tests done but the dr couldn't conform either way. i started going to a chiropractor, and doing a lot of reading on all this and what i found was my posture, and how often i am sitting has Caused a lot of my problems. when you are Hunched over and shoulders rolled forward. it causes your organs to push up, i do have a hiatal hernia. so my posture made it worse. i started watching how i was standing and how i was sitting, and now adding in core exercises, to tighten my back and abs, the pain around my ribs and the tight Muscles in my back have gone away muscles. i know it sounds crazy, i thought so to but i couldn't take it, it makes you think all kinds of crazy stuff, liver cancer and bowel problems and the list goes on. so thats what i came up with for me. hope that help a bit. its scary when no one knows what the problem is.
