Pain/discomfort under right rib cage.

I have been experiencing this for the last few months, I have been searching the web looking for answers.  I am a 45 year old female, in good health, I take no medications, thin, active, I eat healthy, so I am at a loss. I have this feeling like there is something under my right rib cage as if something is stuck underneath or enlarged. At first I thought I had strained a muscle b/c I had been working out in the yard the day before it started. It doesn't hurt, it just feels like there is something there that shouldn't be but when I touch the area there is no swelling or bulge. After about 3-4 weeks when it wasn't going away I went to see my doctor. They did blood work, urine labs and sent me for an ultrasound of gallbladder, all came back normal. I have no other symptoms like nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, etc. just this feeling like something is there. It seemed to go away on it's own and then came back and has come and gone since sometimes lasting a few days, sometimes a few weeks. When it is back wearing a bra is uncomfortable. Sometimes there is a warmth or burning sensation in the area. The only other symptoms I have had that I think are related are these: A few months before this started I experienced a fluttering sensation, almost like when I was pregnant and the baby moved, in the same location, a couple of times. Since this has started, on 3 or 4 different occasions, I have experienced a charlie horse like spasm in the same area, below the right rib, when bending over from a sitting position. Does anyone have any answers as to what this might be?  Does it sound like IBS? Peptic Ulcer? Hiatal Hernia?

I am experiencing the same for almost a year now. I went to my GP and the first thing they did is test my stool for bacteria, it turns out I am positive for H. Pylori bacteria!! They end up giving me an antibiotics and my symptoms where gone.... For a while, because H. Pylori is hard to kill and unfortunately It came back again that is why i am experiencing the same pressure on my right rib again. I'm looking into more natural way on getting rid of the bacteria and completely changing my diet.

This goes for everyone else, can you let me know if you also got tested positive for H. Pylori?

    This feeling soooooo annoying!

Anyone on this thread have any new information? I've been suffering with these symposium for 11 years now. I was told it was probably my gallbladder and had it removed with no effect on the pain. Then was told it was neuropathy from my removed gallbladder ?!?!?!? T

I'm 53 now, female, had 2 babies, somewhat overweight now but the discomfort of moving around is an

impediment to exercise, The pain is sometimes very intense and unbearable. It seems worse at night. I struggle with what seems like constantl stomach upset and burping which sometimes changes into combo hiccup/burps. My GP wants me to go see a pain management doctor but that seems like deciding there's nothing "wrong." Recently I've had a lot of joint pain/ swelling and one intensely painful time seemed to align with pancreatitis-like symptoms. I'm wondering whether this is part of a systemic autoimmune illness (igg4 maybe.) I'm going to see a rheumatologist to see if there's any other test they can run.

I'm frankly tired of reading online about "rare" conditions when so many people seem undiagnosed. The irony of having someone say you couldn't possibly have xyz thing because it's rare is not lost on me but boy, am I tired of this pain. After giving up on local doctors, I got myself connected to see a gastroenterologist at the Mayo Clinic only to find no appointments available and I'd have to call every day to try to get in.

Let's figure this out folks - the slipping rib thing is interesting but it seems internal organ / digestive system related.

it sure if you have seen a pain specialist or not . I did and had injections and it did not work for me. So many tests and pain meds and nothing has shown up including ultrasound , CT, MRI , endoscopy , colonoscopy . I do have MS and i feel it could be related to that but my MS specialists disagree . I keep reading this thread to see if someone can post something that all the Drs are missing

They are the highest rated doctors on earth. You can see multiple doctors on the same appt trip over a few days.

Hi! I have been experiencing the tenderness, the burning and discomfort under and around my right rib. I have "no" gallbladder, I have been taking Nexium for many years. I have had an Ultrasound. It comes and goes. I am going to start cutting out different foods to see if it will make a difference. It really makes you wonder what is going on that causes this. I want to know!!!

So glad i came accross this forum. Ive been suffering for about 2.5 years of what sounds like the exact same thing, no doctor can tell me what it is and i started to feel like it was just me.

Here's my story, maybe it will help, maybe you will be able to relate and pull some information to help your self.

I am male, mid 30's, exercise and lift weights every week, slim build, not over weight, and like to think im healthy. My pain sounds identical to what some pregant ladys have mentioned which is strange and ive tried to think how the 2 could be related. The pain is so hard to describe and isnt exactly painfull, more of a discomfort under the right rib that feels like a golf ball is stuck under the right rib, or a pinching, aching, sensation that makes me feel the need to push under my rib. sometimes it radiates around my abdomin and spreads to my upper right hip and kind of into the right sode of my groin, sometimes it feels like its in my sternum (middle lower chest) , somedays it feels like it raps around my bottom right rib and spreads around the back of the right ribs, the pain never stays in one place for more then a few days but is always around or under my right rib. It defiantly gets worse when sat down, and even worse sat down with no lumber support, at times it can be so bad Im overwhelmed by it! i cant bare the idea of being sat down slumped over, this will trigger it and some time later it will become un barable. The pain is never immediate, i cant put my finger on what exactly makes it worse, some days its mild, some days its overwhelming but sitting down and heavy lifting seem to make it worse.

ive tried streching and doing yoya every week, ive tried doing no exercise during lockdown for 6 months, i think maybe its better when im not exercising, but its hard to say.

Doctors have done scans, taken bloods multiple times, urine samples, checked my liver, pain killers, nerve pain killers, no success. They noted I had a fatty liver, (non alcholics fatty liver disease) could this cause this pain? it hasnt been confirmed but im trying to eat healthier as maybe it could help.

A possible cause - when it started 2.5 years ago i had a lump appear under my right rib, i vaguely remember tweeking my back while straining woth a heavy wieght, after many months of investigation a good physio said this was a perminantly tense muscle, after doing a bunch of trigger point work and back massage he managed to get rid of what we thought was a lump and the muscle relaxed but ive never managed to shake this lump feeling under my rib. could this be the same thing as some ladys have mentioned after pregnancy? a strained muscle or tweeked back? could it be something in the back causing a pinching feeling around the rib?

For me the closet diagnosis ive read on here is Hepatic Flexure (someone mentioned it on pg.3, he also mentioned), something to do with colon being displaced, this bend in the colon sits by the liver behind the right rib area, it could get trapped or displaced, maybe it can be exercised and streched back into place.... who knows, i will literally try anything at this stage!

One thing that has really helped me is a waist band, ive spent 100s£ on various waist bands that are comfortable enough to be worn every day, i found the best thing to be a sweat band that you use on your head, it kind of fits under the rib slightly and eleviates the traped/lump feeling or the need to hold my rib all the time.

As no doctors have been able to diagnose the issue and the tests came back ok i am going to go back to the physio. if it was muscluar i believe it woukd have healed its self by now but i cant live like this for the rest of my life. I will update this page after a couple months of physio. If not, back to the drawing board.

    Stay strong

yes i too have gone through all what you have. I did strain my back really bad shortly before this happened over two years ago,. I have had MRI, CT, many ultrasounds , urine and bloodwork , physio, massage, chiro, pain meds and back injections, endoscopy, colonoscopy and there has been no diagnosis . I have seen a obesr/gyno , Neurologist, Physiatrist and still nothing . My ultrasounds did show a cyst on my liver and kidney but the MRI showed they were ok . I just keep reading this thread and hope someone finally gets an answer . Goodluck to you

Been having this issue since Mid February. pretty much resigned myself to the fact that i have pancreatic cancer but nobody will help me and im terrified.

    33 year old male.

Began with ruq pain just under the rib with increased bowel movements which are very light in colour/yellow.

Had colonoscopy and endoscopy. colonoscopy found 1 polyp in descending colon which was removed. endoscopy found a small hiatal hernia and mild oesophagitis just above the opening to the stomach. i did have a very spotty history of reflux but not often and not bad.

Pain continued. Had an ultrasound with nil abnormalities found but not able to see pancreas due to bowel gas and probably me being 15kg overweight (105kg 6'3").

Had a CT scan in April with nothing found other than some simple cysts in kidneys which is apparently common.

This all continued until approx 6 weeks ago when the pain shifted to the middle of my abdomen just below the sternum. Stools still light coloured.

Doctors have run out of ideas. Gave me PPI's and i had to fight for a referral to a GI. Cant see GI until September.

ive had probably 8 blood tests which included a coeliac test, a hypylori breath test and a stool test which looked for bacteria but not fat.

Ive tried eliminating dairy, i've eliminated alcohol (was never a big drinker anyway, 3 beers a week on average). Nothing helps and im now super depressed and resigned myself to an early death and leaving my family behind.

just wanted to get this off my chest. dont expect a reply or a diagnosis.

    Thanks.

Hi there, It all sounds like my symptoms.

I'm still waiting for my blood /urine/stool tests to come back. I have had this discomfort for over a month now. I have noticed that it get worse next day after I have had something naughty to eat. its still not really pain it just feels like whatever is in there got bigger?! For the last 4 days up to last night I have fallowed strict diet for people with gallbladder problems and it completely went away so I have treated myself with pizza and I'm back to square one. but according to the guides on gallbladder problems it supposed to be painful and its just annoying and uncomfortable. so I doubt that this is a problem. everything started after the workout so hernia would fit in. but again only some of the symptoms. I hope it will go away soon as this seriously affects my quality of life. Anyone had any recent feedback on what that could be ?
