Had my op last week so only a week out, well I was told it was going to be painful but I'm in so much pain today after going to the toilet. Constant stabbing pain, taken tramadol and nurofen but no relief,  Feeling quiet sick with it to.  Saw nurse yday said it was swollen and really bruised but this has been the worse day by far. I had 4 removed grade 3 and 4 and was told they were very large, also a thrombotic skin tag which was was hanging down about 12 mm.  Just want to no does this pain get better soon struggling to cope today. Any idea on how to cope with the pain to getting quiet depressed now.

Please can anyone help - really desperate for advice sad

Had open hemorroidectamy on Thursday to cut out hemmorrloids and remove large prolapsed tag.

Been given very little info on what to expect and now not getting much help and advice when asking about pain levels and diet.

On Monday I still had no BM despite taking the prescribed Senna and sticking to mostly liquids and diet (weetabix with milk, soup, yoghurt, fruit, fish, veg) - mostly fluids until Monday + 2litres plus in fluids.

Only sent out of hospital with tramadol and senna.

Phoned hospital Monday and managed to speak to a staff nurse on the day surgery ward and said get Gp to prescribe Movicil.

By time Gp called back (impossible to get appointment) and scripts sent to local chemist for partner to collect, senna kicked in.

First Bm painful but soft and clrearef the packing . Later afternoon and evening had furrther BM no problems and minimal bleeding.

Took senna and tramadol and went to bed.

Next morning seemed to be going ok. Had BM but there the progress ends

By late morning unable to pass anything and by evening unable to pass water too. In extreme pain.

Tried sitz, shower etc and gave up and took Senn a. Tramadol and went to bed.

Slept three hours but woke in severe pain. Eventually managed to pass water but now consttipated and everything sitting right on surgery Ares between bowel and anus .

Rang hospital but no help. Risked taking Cosmoocol but had no effect other than make pain even worse.

Tramadol just not working any more sad Now over 24 hrs and can't shift anything and pain unbearable . Feel like passing out.

      Seriously considering A&E

      Help !

I would go to A&E. I was told that but didn't need to. I was given fibagel and a laxative I can't recall but not Senna. Also ate bran flakes. Go to A&E.

Hi. Thank you for your reply and link to medical info. Latter was far more than I got from hospital or gp.

No one even mentioned sitz baths ! Found that out after by searching online.

Baths and sudocream has been a godsend.

      Cosmocol still not helping.

I will look in my diary and see what I did. I had same op back in June. Best thing I ever did was buy a squatty potty from Amazon. Made a big difference. That and drinking plenty of water. Let me check my diet for back then.

Ok my diet was quite normal really. I did take prune juice though for the first week and fibagel.

      Breakfast. Cheese omelette. No bread.

Litre of water with fibagel gel.

      Lunch soup.

Dinner .  Sea bass and Pam choi

      supper prawns and mayo.

      After a few weeks

started eating a bowl of fruit for supper and ate bran flakes for breakfast.

Im diabetic so tend to have a low carb diet with lots of veg. Most meals are meat or fish with veg and very little potato. Hardly any bread and no pasta.

Hope pe that helps. The prune juic e was very useful in the beginning but soon had to stop it due to being too loose.

E45 cream or sudocream. Plus use Andrex wet wipes. Wonderful invention.

I received very litttle  info from hospital. Lots of info from here though.

The worst day was after 3 days. Like delivering a baby  400 MM. Long snake although my first BM was day before but only very small amount and mostly wind.

Hope pe it helps and good luck.

      Thank you.

Diet is a struggle for me even before surgery as cannot tolerate oats and soya and struggle with bran. Minimise use of oil and even then has to be nut oil.

20 years ago I had two lots of major surgery and this left me borderline IBS

Soya is a total nightmare as added to so much now, even bread ! Learnt that one the hard way at Christmas .

      Even things like wholemeal etc.

Always having to read ingredients on everything as found even 'safe' items are getting soya added to them.

I was still using fibagel until recently and you can buy it from Boots. Orange flavour. . It bulks it out rather than being a laxative and makes it a more comfortable BM. Other than that eat lots of cabbage veg type stuff if you can't eat bran. I didn't eat any bran or oats the first few weeks anyway. Tended to avoid cereals altogether until recently.

smile will try and see if local chemist has some and give it a try.

Can I ask, how much exercise did you feel able to do ? I'm struggling and other than potter around the house have not felt up to much at all. Sadly, weather not good enough to venture into the garden.

Think part of this is Tramadol making me feel light headed and off balance and partly the discomfort from the open surgery .

For anyone else following this, one really helpfull thing I did day before going into surgery was to purchase some tenalady pants and scent free baby wipes with chamomile.

Pants do come in men's as well.

This way, don't have to worry about leakage or accidents, mess about trying to keep pads in place and the padding offers a bit of extra comfort too when sitting .

I'm a regular exerciser mainly doing martial arts but I didn't train for three weeks. Up until then I gradually walked with my wife very gradually a bit at a time.

As as for pants. I doubled up and used ladies pads but I wish I had thought of those. I threw all my pants away after 12 weeks.

Take it easy for 3 weeks, warm baths and rest a lot in bed watch to read a book.

      thank you smile

Ended up at A&E last night.

Doctor seen was great and came away more comfortable and different pain meds that thankfully seem to work and finally let me get some sleep.

Still struggling today as still no BM since Tuesday morning and no sign of anything happening.

Stuck to senna overnight. Was going to take another Cosmocol this morning but after eating breakfast felt sick again so decided not to push things. After second one yesterday just felt really sick with combination of pain and the osmosis effect of the Cosmocol.

Trying hard to keep up fluids and eat a bit more but still not hungry, cant face coffee (not a tea drinker) and becoming a real effort to drink 2lt of fluids.

Going to try and get some fybogel from chemist or order online tomorrow.

      Feeling really down right now
