Pain under ribs on right hand side
Posted , 115 users are following.
Hi, for 5 months now I have been experiencing a stitch like pain under my ribs on the right hand side. I had my gall bladder scanned, all was ok. Had liver function test, all ok. Kidneys scanned - all ok. Test for ulcer - all ok. The pain is intermittent.
Not sure if it is connected, but five months a go I stopped taking sugar in tea and switched to sweeteners (aspartame). I got through 100 tablets in two weeks. My stomach ballooned with gas and I belched a lot. The pain appears to have come on shortly after this. Whether the sweeteners had anything to do with it, I don't know. I am male, 40 years old, reasonably fit and a non smoker.
Thanks.

I've been reading this post and what you describe is exactly what I am going through at the moment. I was wondering if you found out what was actually going on and did you find a solution?
Many thanks

with vomiting early November, a visit to the practice nurse got a diagnosis of biliary colic maybe kidney stones, 5 days later still in agony despite 2 lots of antibiotics and diclofenec I saw the gp who thought gallstones and referred me for an ultrasound. 6 weeks later I had the ultrasound, by now the pain is radiating from the right kidney area, around under my ribs and if I press on my bottom right rib a shooting pain goes through my
body! I am still vomiting and feeling nauseated and have lost 15lbs...which is the silver lining in all this.
The ultrasound reveals nothing, everything looks normal, no gallstones, liver, pancreas, kidneys and spleen all appear normal.
Go reffered me to a Urologist who has now requested a CT scan of kidneys as apparently kidney stones don't show up on ultrasound!
I have been off work 9 weeks, the pain is there as a nagging, dull ache all the time with episodes of throbbing, shooting pains, I am still vomiting but not quite as often, there was microscopic traces of blood in my sample and I feel like I might just be going mad!!! :-)

Although it is just about still there, on a day to day basis I don't feel any discomfort.
I am wondering if it could be lifestyle related. I will be 63yrs old next moth, and am semi-retired.
The result of which is I tend to sit down a lot more, especially in the winter, Watching TV, and sitting at the computer. Sometimes I notice my trousers are too tight, and I have to loosen the belt and undo the top button when sitting down.
Not the full answer maybe, but possibly a contributory factor. ?

Interesting reading advice from "heal yourself" on a couple of occasions my muscle went crazy straight after drinking a pint. Last summer I lost the stone and I'm pretty sure it improved. Obviously I've put the weight back
on and recently it's started again. Tonight I had an attack, lying on the sofa I've gone to sit up and bang the muscle has turned on. This one only lasted a minute or so and it relaxed, I did eat the most amazing cup cake after dinner loaded with sugar after dinner!
I'm off to find the health products advised by "heal yourself" thank you
