Pain under ribs on right hand side
Posted , 115 users are following.
Hi, for 5 months now I have been experiencing a stitch like pain under my ribs on the right hand side. I had my gall bladder scanned, all was ok. Had liver function test, all ok. Kidneys scanned - all ok. Test for ulcer - all ok. The pain is intermittent.
Not sure if it is connected, but five months a go I stopped taking sugar in tea and switched to sweeteners (aspartame). I got through 100 tablets in two weeks. My stomach ballooned with gas and I belched a lot. The pain appears to have come on shortly after this. Whether the sweeteners had anything to do with it, I don't know. I am male, 40 years old, reasonably fit and a non smoker.
Thanks.

I have the exact same issue. Happened at the end of 2014 after taking Ceftin for UTI. Did ultrasound, colonoscopy, etc and found nothing. Went away after rubbing magnesium oil on my side for a couple of days.
Now a year and a half later and it's back again after taking Ceftin for a UTI. Going on 4 months now. Soeme days no pain. Other days pretty bad. Can't tell if it muscular or liver/gallbladder/pancreas related. May try the milk thistle

The pain under my right rib is GONE! :D
After countless tests all showing no reason for the pain, a CT of my abdomen and pelvis with contract discovered the culprit: "Chronic Fatty Replacement of the Pancreatic Head." My doctor prescribed Creon to compensate for the pancreatic insufficiency and I've had no problem since.
I started taking Creon two months ago and it has changed my life so much! I am supposed to take it with each meal but I found out that I only need it if the meal includes meat.
Now if I press on the area I can still feel some tenderness but I no longer have that feeling of a knot under my right rib. Since there is a bit of tenderness there I'm seeing an Endocrinologist to see if there is anything that needs further attention, just to be sure.
I don't know if this information will help anyone else who is struggling with this, but since this has helped me so much I felt I should share it.

Hey man you have parasites in your liver, after quitting sugar your Candida will die off and leave you bloated with stinky gas, the parasites eat the candida, gotta take care of the candida problem or the unhatched parasites will have some thing to feed on when they hatch... Whole organic cloves kill the eggs, and black walnut tincture and wormwood will kill the parasites. You can google the rest, I'm dealing with them bad. Doctors over here are not educated on parasites, so they don't know the signs. Take care of the candida and parasites or you WILL get cancer. PS don't let anyone convense you to do any mor CT scans ever.

I have the similar situationsince last two years..For the first year I kind of ignored it thinking that it was a gastro problem.. but since last one year I got this stitching throbbing pain under my ribs above the liver that I feel like poking it all the time..Like it has become sore there.all my tests are clear ...Gall bladder is clear..Kidneys are clear liver .I have a slight fatty liver but not sure if that is causing the pain.i am tired of this pain I almost forgot to sense how it feels like without the pain there. Docs have come to a conclusion that's it's my psychological pain.. I dun understand it. I am fed up ..I can't concentrate on anything with this pain.. does anybody have the remedy please help

Hi,
It's good to know I'm not alone with this condition!
I've had something very similar for around 15 years like Dave.
I thought it must have been gall stones.
I had a scan some years ago and was told they couldn't find anything, was probably a fatty liver and not much to worry about.
Mine is intermittent, sometimes goes for weeks at a time, seems to be at it's worse when I'm sitting on a train or plane for some reason? Maybe puts pressure on the liver?
I don't smoke, probably drink a bit too much, but not every day. I do quite a bit of exercise, gym, running, cycling, swimming, at least 3 times per week. I have wondered if it's muscular, maybe brought on by exercise?
I've recently started experiencing another abdominal pain in my left hand side, not sure if it's related?
I've seen the doctor and have another ultrasound scan next week. I'll let you know what they find.
I also wonder if this could be related to Alpha1 Antitrpsin deficiency? My son was diagnosed as a baby, it hereditary and can affect the liver?
Anyone had anymore success getting any answers to the cause?
Cheers

Pretty sure mine turned out to be my bowels. Gas, or some food blockage. Mine went on for some time last year (after a fair bit of binging - food and booze) so I thought it was a liver related thing, went to the docs and liver tests all ok - she suggested it was still just my IBS). I started looking after myself a bit more, and hey presto it eventually went away (not straight away, but after a few months). Now it does come back intermittently, but I don't worry about it so much. I try and give myself a colon massage in the evenings to help dislodge the air or whatever is trapped there (there's a bend in the colon called hepatic flexure where gas can get trapped). If it's happening on the other side too you might just have a bit of a sluggish colon at the moment, I've been having pain and sort of swelling around other parts of my stomach again at the moment and i think it's just down to an IBS flare up because I've been a bit poorly at the moment). Give yourself a tummy/colon massage and see if it frees up a bit of air (or something else)!
All the best.

I have the same kind of pain for the last few weeks, it also makes me feel very sick. I had my gallbladder removed several years ago to.
