Painful Burning Sensation In Urethra - No Uti Or Std - Female

Posted , 141 users are following.

I am a 21 year old female in the UK, and I have been suffering with a painful burning sensation which I believe to be coming from my urethra since September 2014. The pain comes and goes throughout the day, and it will be at its most intense after having urinated, and after sex. At its worst I struggle to walk. The need to urinate has increased but there is no difficulty in going, though I do now most often have two streams when urinating which sometimes will stop and start. On multiple occasions there has also been thick blood in my urine too.

No UTIs have ever shown up on the paper dip test at my local GPs, though I have had UTIs in the past. I have tested negative to all STDs. I have had ultrasound scans which have shown nothing abnormal. I have had numerous internal examinations by doctors and one by a Gynaecologist, all have said everything looks normal and healthy.

My GP has had me try at least 6 different types of antibiotics but none have had any effect on me, except for Cefalexin which I took once a day for 28 days, the pain felt lifted and sex was possible again, but 3-4 days after having finished my course I was back to how I was before them.

I drink plenty of fluids (including cranberry juice) and eat healthy, I don't drink alcohol, smoke, or take drugs. All pain killers have very little effect on the pain, only a hot water bottle sat between my thighs brings any relief. Taking cranberry capsules, and/or cystitis relief sachets has had no effect.

I am about ready to give up on my local GP, its doctors and the NHS, no matter how many appointments I make and attend no progress is ever made, no tests are ever taken and my request to be referred to a Urologist has been repeatedly turned down, I am only ever told to drink more water and to try a new antibiotic, which I pay for each time, no one seems willing to search and to find out what is causing the pain. Affording to go private is a problem for me though, and so I just hope there is someone out there who can relate to me and give me guidance/knowledge on what to do.

This pain is now negatively affecting all aspects of my life.

I had the exact problems like you do, i dont know what the heck is going on with my bladder but the tests did came up with bacteria’s & blood sometimes, did scanning for thousands of times & blood test etc everything is normal but still no cure for this infection. Some antibiotics did help, but only for the period of the times id consume them. Sometimes i cry hardly at night

So sorry I know this situation all to well for almost 3 years now with every test you can think of and all normal. I do know that if they're not culturing your urine to see what bacteria it is and which antibiotics kill the bacteria the antibiotics wont work. Do you know which bacteria it is? Ecoli, klebsiella, ect....

Hey not sure if you saw above but i had same thing for a year and it turned out to be pelvic floor muscle spasms which causes UTI like pain. I was calling samaratins and v depressed with the pain and lack of support from NHS and mis prognosis from so called bladder specialists. Go to a womens physio and should get sorted in no time smile even with hidden bacteria its the spasms creating the pain. Good luck!

I have tried the benadryl but didn't work for me. You can also try zyrtec or claritin as well, the 24 hour pill. Also you need to ask your dr what bacteria is giving you these infections because eventually if they aren't giving you the right ones you'll become immune to them like me. The next time I have a uti I might have to do IV antibiotics for that reason. You need to google d-mannose which is an all natural supplement that keeps ecoli out of your bladder! It works but takes a month or so to kick in! Now I take 2 pills every day to keep the ecoli out. Also my main bacteria was klebsiella and every month for a year and a half I had a uti from klebsiella and no antibiotics worked and that's why I'm immune now. I started taking olive leaf extract pills and finally the uti's stopped! My dr told me if you get another UTI from klebsiella you're going to infectious disease to have IV antibiotics. Now my only concern is the uti's stopped but almost on a daily basis I feel like I have a uti but I dont. The dr has no idea why! I have to work like this and take care of a 14 year old and a 4 year old because life doesn't stop for my pain. Good luck with you and hope you feel better. Also google helped me tremendously!

    Hello All!

I have some news for you all that you really might want to hear! I was having difficulty with urethra pain. It felt like a UTI and all the discomfort associated. Try taking a Benadryl.  It is possible you are consuming something your body is allergic to. I found there are so many additives in our food nowadays. I can no longer eat Lindt chocolates, McDonald's frozen Frappuccino, and other weird things due to this happening. Nothing easies it (not uristat or antibiotics) except Benadryl. My culture was negative for UTI or any  bacterial/ fungus. I spoke with my urologist and told him I was having bladder spasms and it was induced by my diet and he told me he had never heard such.  I dropped him as a doc. Please try this.  It wont hurt you. Give me feed back on what you come up with.  This has been going on my whole life and I just now got a handle on it.

    Good luck, Girls!

I've had same problem for 30 yrs- no UTI no STDs - painful frequent urination- throbbing, aching, stinging, burning- no blood though- constant feeling like you have to urinate - even after you have just urinated - day and night pressure - terrible- hard to do daily life- HAS HELPED ME FOR YEARS with each flareup- DR gave me an RX years ago-not an ANTIBIOTIC- IT IS AN anelgesic- numbs the whole urinary tract and help with 80% of the pain - makes it bearable - it is PHENOZOPYRIDINE - it is a little brown pill - makes you pee bright orange-it is a lifesaver for me .Also called AZO at drugstore

Hi there. I had the same thing for a year. Azo helped relieve the pain. Its poisonous long term though. But appreciate when you in that much pain you will do anything. Anyway i am one million percent convinced this pain without current infection is pelvic floor pain. It was finally confirmed by NHS after i spend 3k on private and useless specialists. Well think NHS just agreed with me as were at a loss! My muscle was in spasm and it gave UTI symptoms and dreadful bladder pain. You Google pelvic floor dysfunction 'high tone'. There is a great article in the US version of Elle magazine. It will make a lot of sense to you. I booked womens physio and bought a pelvic massage wandon amazon (lol). Which i use whenever i have a flare. I also had seen dr malone who said that an old UTI and stress triggered it. So i also took hiprex (can order from ebay) to elimate residue bacteria. In 2 weeks of massage and hiprex i was fixed. Hope this helps you. I had a terrible time. Doctors have no idea what they are doing and keep saying people have IC. Its incredibly rare and rarely the reason for pain. No one mine resurfaces i know what to do. Good luck and feel free to contact me for any other insights,!

Ps i had burning throbbing pain down there as well. Terrible. I couldnt sit or wear jeans. Even knickers hurt! If you think about it a knot of muscle in your neck would give you a headache. Same thing. But doctors dont understand muscles. Google womens physio. They are great and was like 70 pounds an hour so very reasonable price too

i am not a doctor, but the fact of the matter is you may well have a UTI. The standard tests are notoriously unreliable and sadly the powers that be will do nothing about .it, YET, because in the end they will be forced to!! pls look at the work of Prof. Malone-Lee, one of the world's leading forces on this subject

Gosh how i do feel for you, all of you. Ive had since end of Feb symptoms of UTI, ive took 2 lots of antibiotics which helped for a few days then a week later it all came back again, Ive tried every alternative treatment one can try but i dont think its an infection as it wasn't burning when i passed urine, just a few minutes after with a deep horrible throbbing sensation. How ever yesterday as today the sensation just gets worse and worse as the day goes on and im now feeling very sore down there. So bad im like walking on tip toes, taking cystitis powders not helping much either. Its so hard to get an appointment to see gp as well. Antibiotics i took were what i had in cupboard and again a couple of weeks later the same ones mum had but never took them so they weren't prescribed by gp. I know naughty! Im 67 so post menopausal now. Its slightly better in morning but by late afternoon gets unbearable. Ive noticed ive a prolapse as well can feel a bulge at entrance of vagina. Also feel like there's a link between bladder bowel and urethra most my discomfort is def in the urethra, well more than a discomfort , its unbearable, like a tiny thistle in there and dryness of course by atrophy. Was put on vagifem a few yrs back which really helped but side affects forced me to stop taking them. This morning wasn't to bad but now awful, infections dont come and go. My kinesology lady saw me last Thursday, said def not an infection by interstitial cystitis. Been told to take one tablespoonful of olive oil twice daily, and take urva ursi tablets along with aloe vera juice as all an internal healer, i have digestion problems as well.. Also she gave me a mix of aromatherapy oils to rub over abdomen, have to see her in two weeks, some how i think there is more wrong with me than just interstitial cystitis. Im hoping so much i can cure this without seeing gp, i cant face the thought of being probed about and having painful investigations, i never had any more smear tests due to last one being so painful as well. So im suffering in silence at the moment. Thanks for listening!

If you can you need to see Prof Malone Lee in Harley Street. He is about the most experienced specialist with regards to an ongoing UTI. The dipstick tests is very very unreliable.

There is an NHS hospital that deals with thus too, but difficulties come when referals are needed but you could try. its the Whittington Hospital in Islington London and they have a specialist UTI department.
