The shaking is caused by lack of serotonin its a neurological thing , the lack of estragon effects the brains ability to produce serotonin  which is why we also have anxiety and depression.  I have ME which causes alot of brain issues so im on ametripteline .On doctors advise I doubled my dose to 20mg when peri set in as the tremor was a bad symptom and it pretty much takes it away .

Could you tell me more please. This seems to make sense and in line with other things I've read. You're referring to internal vibration of shaking not a general anxiety jitters, right?

Yes the weird internal shaking.. where you feel like your vibrating but from the outside no one can see it. I only know what i have read... and what my doctor told me.  I didnt expect the extra meds to help and was shocked when they did..  i know if i miss a dose that it comes straight back so the extra serotonin is helping.  The physical shakes can be treated with beta blockers like propranalol , but you can only take a small does and cant take them if you have low blood pressure. The anxiety, jitters, panic and the internal shaking is all caused by your brain chemistry been off due to lack of estragon and progesterone ..

I have the shakes also. This is the first time my period hasn't come on time also. I was supposed to start 8 days ago. I'm hurting in my pelvic area also. What did your doctor give you? I'm already on Paxil, but it has been not working for almost 2 years now. I'm also on clonazepam

I only have internal shaking/vibrating feeling at night. Usually starts around 2-3am and comes in a pulsating feeling that lasts a minute then stops. It repeats later several more times before waking for the day. Any idea what hormones or how serotonin changes during sleep. If i knew more i might be able to find something that works to eliminate it. I dont have it the feeling all in the day. I recently read that hormones are secreted into the body in short pulses; this would make sense with how I've felt the vibrations the past couple years.

What meds are you taking in addition to propranalol? I have had the internal shakes for 6 months - 24-7 - it's awful sad

Hi i take a small does of amitriptyline.. i was already on 10mg as i have ME and pots so the doctor doubled it to 20mg and it made a huge differance.. still get it mildly now and again usually around ovulation or period.. wether i get my period or not as i keep missing now.  You cant take it if your already on anti depresants. Its the old type of drug and now is mainly used to treat nerve pain/ migraines etc and sleep issues which is what i was talking it for.

    Hi Michelle

I too have been woken in the night on and off for over a year with internal shaking /tremors, now get them regularly during the day/evening, started actually missing periods now, have been diagnosed with low iron count so on iron supplements for 3 months, wonder if it is the menopause, none of my friends or mum have it but mum took the mini pill right up until 49, I'm 48 and started getting weird symptoms at 45. Mum had her last period around 48 so think I'm going to follow her. This shaky feels almost like you have not eaten or drinking fluids so weird, hope your feeling better as I notice your post was 10 months ago!

Hello! I am 40 (almost 41) and have also just started this internal tremor. It is wreaking havoc with my emotions. Just over the past year I have developed several weird symptoms that nobody I know has. My mom didn't got through official menopause til she was around 50. I would love to hear from you!

      Hi Kelld,

I suffered from these for 6 months. The only thing that has dialed them down is FDA approved bio identical estrogen. I am on the Vivelle Dot .5 mg.  The tremors are reduced about 85% now - I had them 24-7 since March - truly the worst symptom (and rare) of Menopause.  Bio identical estradiol did not work for me via cream/lotions. I also tried oral estrace pill  - .5 mg - that dialed them down greatly but I started to have vision problems (also rare side effect of taking estrogen) so I switched to the Vivelle Dot which is a patch.  I hope this helps. Prior to this - my doctors were perplexed - I've had so many tests run but I know it's estrogen related. I am 51 years old. I also started an Anti Depressant - Lexapro 10 MG which has helped immensely with the anxiety that goes along with the inner tremors.

Good luck and let me know if I can be of further help  xo Dana

Thank you Dana. I am going to write those two medications down. I am going to call and make an appt this week.

I was also curious if you had any other strange symptoms as you are trying to fall asleep.

I get muscle twitches or jerks when starting to fall asleep. It started off with just like one of my fingers or thumbs moving just as I am falling asleep but now it has turned into actual jerks. Dealing with the mood swings, anxiety and internal tremor might be easier if I could actually sleep!

      Thanks again for the reply.

      Hi Kelle,

Yes I have muscle jerks occasionally - and also - very scary brain zapping feeling, and electro shock feeling sometimes! I also had heart palpitations which made sleeping very difficult and my anxiety was frequent and terrifying. My hormones are still fluctuating - even though I found a more stable delivery system (the patch/vivelle dot) - so at times I still feel these symptoms. I think it will take time to resolve/settle down but you should get some relief (and sleep) with the vivelle dot and an anti depressant.

Kelle, I have those muscle jerks also. I can’t sleep but maybe 2-3 hours a night. The tremors and shaking are horrible. My digestive system has changed also. I get burning in my stomach because of the anxiety making my body produce more acid. Then I get nauseous. I can’t sleep well at all unless I take something.

I'm still getting all if the symptoms. I feel horrible right now and I'm supposed to start any day. I've been spotting for 4 days. Ugh!

I get the muscle jerks too. I get loads and loads of symptoms just after I ovulate, and they go all the way up till I have my period. HATE IT.  And the shivering. I'm shivering right now with the heating on covered in a fleece blanket.
