Perimenopause/Menopause and shortness of breath/chest tightness/ Belching

Anyone have the symptoms of shortness of breath with chest tightness, (air hunger) with lots of belching after eating? If so please describe... And does it get better? Mine started like 3 weeks ago and it's awful feels like i can't get a deep enough breath.

I'm also experiencing food allergies/sensitivities also to soaps and flowers and different smells, all make me choke/ cough and feels like chest tightness. Never ever have I had asthma in my life but feels like it now! My anxiety/ panic attacks are bad, antibodies are high for rheumatoid arthritis, and hashimotos, just don't know how to deal with all these new symptoms that keep getting thrown at me other than to sit and cry, cry cry! Anyone else having similar issues??? Are these symptoms all consistent with the menopause change??

    Hi Gypsy,

Yes, I can relate. Please look at the histamine connection, whether it's food intolerance or allergies.

If this is really the case there is a lot that we can do 😃

    Take care xx

This is totally me. Air hunger for the last couple of weeks. Burping after eating and drinking Sometimes feel like ive got heartburn, indigestion. Had iron checked for anaemia, all fine. Keep thinking about getting a chest x-ray but not really breathless, not wheezy or coughing and when I'm distracted,im fine.

Good to read about this issue with others, wish the drs were up on it too. Im def in perimenopause, got lots of other symptoms

i get these symptoms (among many others) and it is awful. My symptoms come in waves; I can feel fine for weeks and then they hit me like a truck.

This site is a life saver as I felt so alone. at least there is comfort in knowing we are not alone.

Thank you for sharing. I'm reading the replies in this thread and seeing myself in them. I thought I was going mad and my hypochondria was in overdrive. I'm almost 42 and at the minute experiencing palpitations, heaviness in the chest, , changes in hair texture (not growing on the head but flourishing elsewhere!), shortness of breath and mood swings daily. It sounds like this is how it will be for the long haul, so it's great to have a forum for chat and support.

I'm went to the er yesterday with the same problems. Doing everyday things and getting winded. I had a CT scan done, checked my lungs, heart everything was good. Can't see my primary care physician until next month. I can't believe this has something to do with being premenopausal

I am suffering with these EXACT symptoms!!!! I am too embarrassed to tell you how many times I have been to the ER in the past 6 years with this.... seen every specialist and burst into tears when they say "every thing is normal, this could be hormonal" I am only 45 and my cycles just started skipping so I am sure I have another 5 or 6 years of this battle... wanna cry.. always think I am dying... ugggg

Experiencing exactly the same with breathing/belching issues. I'm early fifties, and have had this for two and a half years now, no let up. Read many responses on here that people go through phases of this, or certain times of the month only, but I have these issues every single day! Trying to do the natural route. May I please ask, have your symptoms improved at all? I don't think I could cope with ten years of it! Thank you.

I am by no means 100% but my symptoms do seem to be less severe, so yes, I would say I am improving. Hope you do soon too!
