Perimenopause or Anxiety or ???

Hi everyone,

I recently joined this, my first ever forum, in the hope of gaining knowledge and sharing experiences on the strange symptoms I have been experiencing the last few weeks.

My first post focused on Anxiety and the possibility of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It has recently been brought to my attention, there is a possibility my symptoms could be hormone related. Something I never actually considered.

Brief list of symptoms...

Fatigue (groggy and heavy type tiredness)

Brain Fog

Feeling detached and 'spaced out'

Weak and Shaky

Jelly Legs

Weak Fingers and Toes

Sensitive to light and sound

Sometimes feels like I have flu or a bad virus (even though I know I don't)

Light Headed

Light Dizziness

Easily tired out

Occasional Palpitations

Frequent urination (occasionally)

Anxious (more so than usual)

Brief History...

I have had anxiety issues, on and off, for many years and also hormone induced migraines. This year the migraines are definitely worse and so too is the anxiety. I had an 8 day brutal migraine early/mid September, followed by 8 days of severe brain fog/dull fuzzy head. I haven't been the same since. I'm also wondering if my symptoms are migraine related? I've had 2 full blood tests done and 2 urine samples taken. All came back normal/clear and healthy. I've also been to see an ENT consultant who ruled out an inner ear virus. He also checked my throat and balance. I had a full eye examination last week and my eyes are in great shape. I have an MRI booked next week and also an appointment to get an ECG recorder fitted for 48 hours.

My symptoms are so broad and general, it could be a number of things... I have even considered CFS. Now I'm thinking it could be hormone related? I feel more anxious not knowing what this is!

Is anybody experiencing anything similar?

Any replies/advice would be greatly appreciated x

Linda what was your b12 level ? Mine is low but doc said she thinks its because of poor diet so waiting to see if it goes up when diet improves, did you have any reaction to injection ?

    Hi ladies,

Talking of b12, I've been deficient for about 6 years now and have injections every three months. Symptoms of deficiency are tiredness, dizziness, brain fog, skin issues (eczema), palpitations, also pins and needles in feet and toes... The list is endless. Much the same as you get with peri. It is worth getting yourself checked for b12 most definitely and I do notice a slight difference when I've had my three monthly fix ☺️ I've been researching a little about the sinus issues I'm experiencing and have come across an candida - a natural yeast found in the stomach. Sometimes, if you have had a lot of antibiotics, it can cause your candida levels to go through the roof and can cause much the same symptoms as peri... Google it, it's an interesting read. I think there's so much information out there, it gets to be confusing. All I know is, I've been off my period for 10 days now and my symptoms are starting again, starting to experience breast tenderness already and if the past few months are anything to go by, I am due next Friday 😟 Doctors the day before, hope he listens as with my last few periods I've been a bit moody and tearful. The doctor may need to watch out. Hugs to you all xxx

Countrylass, no reactions whatsoever apart from a stiff arm afterwards (much like a flu jab) which passes quite quickly. I'd be lost if I didn't have them smile

    Hope you get sorted soon,

Jay i dnt know about spain but here its not part of a routine blood test you have to ask for it, mines low but because the rest of my bloods are ok and im not anaemic my dic just said improve your diet to include b12 rich foods x

That's okay countrylass... It's an easy one to have, like a say, a little sore but I do feel a difference! Due mine next week and yes, jay, it is true to say that after about 2.5 months you feel you need it... My skin changes. I was diagnosed after being referred for bloods because I cut my thumb and after a 1.5 weeks, I still hadn't begun to heal. Sent for full bloods and b12 test and bang, call the next day to say that I'm b12 deficient. My doctor asked if I was vegan as it's something that a vegan would deal with. I eat healthily, iron rich foods and meat (no milk though) and I am deficient. I am also iron deficient. B12 deficiency is know as pernicious anaemia and it can make you feel very lousy indeed.... If in doubt, ask if you can be tested for it xxx with the way our bodies fluctuate, you could well be deficient in it xxx

    thanks country lass ..

i didnt think it was part of full bloods, in spain they give you the results and i have not got that one, may be worth checking too and asking for the test.... thanks for that... Jay x

Jay, sounds a difficult situation as it's hard enough getting doctors to listen to you here in England. It can make your symptoms of peri far more noticeable, I'm sure of it... It also causes anxiety and depression sad we get some stick, don't we?

    Hi country lass and jayneejay

My b12 level was 67 not part of routine bloodwork nor is the d but this doctor specializes in women's health and so ran full panel for what we need. I am really hopeful for the first time in 5 years that I have finally found a doctor that will actually help me! I will definitely keep everyone posted on how I feel. I did not have a reaction to the shot. Gave it to me in my hip. I had a reaction to liquid b12 supplements years ago so was worried myself but all good. I am very sensitive to all mess and allergic to sulfur, sulfa, anesthesia So always a concern for me. He said deficiency in b12 along with d levels thyroid and of course low progesterone (which explains getting my period every 16 days and feeling horrid) accounts for my vibrating sensations, brain fog, light headed floaty feeling, inflammation (which he feels is cause of my tooth pain), headaches, hot flashes and night sweats and definitely anxiety. He said I should feel better tomorrow from b12 shot and have to say already feel a bit better and within a few weeks from d deficiency and said probably take a few months for hormones to settle ans periods to spread out by assures me we will get there. As for thyroid he did say often see thyroid function function fluctuate with hormone levels and will need to keep checking. I go for bloodwork in 3 weeks again in 3 months and will get another b12 shot then. There may be hope for us all......god knows we deserve a break. Love to all
