Posterior repair for a rectocele
Posted , 63 users are following.
I am going into hospital next week for a posterior repair to hopefully sort out the rectocele I have had for the last year.
I would be grateful for any information and comments from anyone who has undergone this procedure.
I am very nervous and embarrassed about the whole thing. I will definately leave comments on my experience once it is over.

I have read all of your entries to this thread and have yet more questions!
I am day 3 post a posterior repair and a perineal repair (perinopathy?!sp?)
I had quite a few complications following surgery including extensive bruising, haemorrhage and full collapse - most inconvenient! - however my main worry now is how my perineum feels.
I know its been 'repaired' and the muscle built up, but it feels as though it is larger (sticking out further) than it ever did, and I'm not happy about this!
I wondered if anyone else had the same and if it settled or stayed that way. I would hate to have to return to the surgeon again to have this corrected!

I think you'd be ok with walking, but not high impact sports. I would take the advice of your OBGYN. I had a rectocele repair 8 months ago, and yes, you do have to be very careful, and the recovery is slow, but it was worth doing. I got a kegel app for my i-pad which I find useful, and the gynae physio certainly recommends the exercises. Basically you want to strengthen your pelvic floor without straining it further.
I agree, the advice is conflicting, but if it's bothering you, you have to do something. Let us know how you get on. All the best, Moira

I have had a few ups and downs. Most recently day 16 when I thought and perhaps did pull a stitch. All I would say is try to rest as much as poss and no lifting and take the laxatives. The pain after day 4 wasn't too bad. I was given codiene but didn't take as constipating - but would have helped if you have worse pain than me. I have had my moments of ----is it worth it. Cant' know for sure yet. Good luck you will be fine.

You are so right. Please take it easy for many weeks to come, your body has gone through trauma and the op is major. I agree that the doctors especially males have no clue as to the incredible pain that follows this surgery. I'm now 16 weeks post op, half of that time i was taking max over the counter two types of pain relieve. Many days i was in tears. Beside all this you shouldn't be driving, lifting, lugging anything heavy for at least 6 weeks - and many sites say 12 weeks. I'd like to re-write their journals. I've a GP appointment next week because i started to feel a drop (bulge) after 8 1/2 weeks. Again on my 7 1/2 week follow up discharge appt the consultant told me i'd healed, although stitches remained and i was 'good to go' i.e. hoovering, driving, sex (the latter just hasn't happened as yet). It was Christmas the following week and i believed i over did it, standing cooking and some housework, the days that followed i realised i had similar problems to pre-surgery. Take it easy Gail, i'm sure there's no way you want to repeat the surgery in a hurry.
