Can't hardly walk or function. I tried to curl up in bed and just rest, but that is to uncomfortable too...Don't know how I am going to stand it until next Friday morning....UGG.....guess I just have to hang in their....no other choice...Sorry for venting here.....I know so many of you have it way worse than I do.....Thanks for listening....Barb

Hi there I'm 4weeks post op tlhr and I remember
the pain before op walking like ape woman as the day went on ,back pain, knee pain foot pain neck pain, pain just about every where.
Couldn't believe it when my surgeon said I'll make all your pain go away.
It was the day after my op when they get you out of bed and you sit in chair and have little walk,my goodness he was right all that pain had gone all I was left with was the soreness and uncomfortable from op that feeling alone made me burst
into tears ,the nurses came running what's the matter have you hurt yourself no I'm just so happy
all that pains gone and to no some where along
the way the pain we are left with will disappear.
So only positive thoughts you will get there.lots
of hugs.

Hi Anna and thanks....lol Ape woman sounds about like me. I just had my rthr 11 weeks ago and also do remember using a walker just to get into the door of the hospital for my surgery and my husband helping me get into a wheelchair. I was so bad I couldn't even move my legs enough to put them on the foot things, had to have both feet on the same one. So maybe this time it isn't worse but sure feels bad. It did help a lot getting the right side done but hard when the other side is still bad. Initially a lot of my pain went away, but I have noticed lately that the left side seems to be getting worse and quickly. Funny how the right side had been bad for a while and just gradually got worse and worse, but the left side just went all the sudden and it has been downhill from their. Hoping that after this one I will be out of the pain and be able to function normal. You are still really early in the healing process, it is so slow. Hope you are feeling better soon. Hugs to you dear....Get well soon...Barb

Not much longer to go till ur surgery. I had mine on Tues luckily I didn't have to stop any of my medications, i cant imagine wot the pain would be like without them as was bad enough with them. Ive not got any pain at the moment and feel really good. Good luck for fri x

Thank you michelle....that is neat you didn't have to stop any of the medications. Must not have been taking anything that is considered a blood thinner. The Ibuprofin can thin your blood and cause too much bleeding during surgery so that is why it is taken away. So right about nothing takes the pain away...just helps some but without it is terrible. Hope you continue to feel good...Barb

Thanks fiona, sounds like your surgery timing is just about the same as mine. Had my rthr on May 17th, then going in for the lthr on the 12th of this month. Yes, even sitting is pain, is no position that doesn't hurt. I will be so glad when this is over. I remember the first time I was so anxious and nervous and scared but also thought I am willing to go through anything to get out of this pain. When is your next surgery scheduled? Wishing you well....Barb

My first was May 9th and the left will be on Aug 19th. I did the right side first as well which appears to have paid off. I also wanted to be able to drive as soon as I felt well enough after the 2nd one. I think I'm lucky as if I walk too much on it my left is painful but as a rule I'm fairly comfortable compared to before the right was done. It sounds like you're having a much harder time. I wish you well also. Keep us posted - I hope this works for you and takes away all your pain!

Now 7 months on I just cannot imagine going back to the state I was in ... it is wonderful to be free of that.
Sure I get pains and aches, but tolerable ones, not at all like OA.

Dear Barbie, Don't apologize for venting. I am sure that is why this forum was started. How long has it been since your surgery? My Dr. put me on 1000 mg Norco for 6 weeks, and I still get Ibuprofin, I cant imagine going through this without them. My surgery was June 9, and I spent 10 days in the hospital. I was in ICU, and I kid you not, the nurses spoiled me so bad, I almost felt as if i were in a spa, except for the pain. When I came home even though my granddaughter also spoiled me rotten, it was a jolt to my system, and I agree there is a lot of pain. I am still not functioning at 100 %. At first there was a nurse that come once a week and a therapist, that lasted for 6 weeks. Now i have a home health care girl that comes in and is supposed to clean, which i feel is totally inadequate, but I guess i said all of that to say this, even with this support i would not go through this again, and I am sick of people telling me how their friend or whatever was out doing everything in a month or so. I didnt even start using a cane until this week. You are right we have no other choice but to hang in there. All i can tell you is to stay strong, and keep on trucking. God bless.

Thanks Connie, sounds like you have been through a terrible time! That is exactly what I meant when I said "so many here have it worse than me". I hope you continue to improve, bless your heart. It is a rough situation to be in that is for sure. I was fairly lucky I guess even though my surgery was longer than usual and I had a fracture to top it off I still got to come home in 3 days. My surgery was May 17th. and has been rough trying to recover and still have another severly bad hip. Others on here have been in the same situation as I have. Know what you mean about people telling you how well others do. I wish all the best but still get shocked when I see in one week someone is walking without aid etc....I have been using a cane for about 6 weeks but the pain and my left hip have got so bad that I am now going to have to start using crutches or worse yet the walker again. I will be glad when this is all over. Am in pain now because of the bad hip and being off of my pain meds until after surgery. Then afterwards the recovery period again. I am trying to stay strong. Lucky I have my husband to help me out, but was awful hard on him last time as he isn't that well either. At least this time we know what to expect. Wishing you well...Hugs....Barb

other thing to remember : you cannot compare the 2 surgeries !!! but of course you will ... like I did ... it will be a different experience - I was almost euphoric that the horrible pain you are suffering from now will be gone !!! seriously - you will have 2 new hips ... you or I was so much less paranoid and afraid about dislocation - by now you know your body so much better - you are more creative - there was a little confusing about which hip was the bad one and which one was the good one
when doing the stairs, but that is me ....
lots of strength to all of you - keep breathing slowly and in to the pain - sometimes it helps to relax -
