Premique Low Dose - Not in stock anywhere?

After many years on Premique Low Dose, I now find it is not in stock at any Chemists. Is anyone else having the same problem? If so, is there a similar HRT I can change to?

I have also failed to get premique low dose and was put on premique full strength on alternate days, after a 6 weeks I started to get memopause syptomsand felt very wooly headed, I have checked at the pharmacy and still no stock. I worry about bothering my doctor, but has anybody got any suitable alternative? Because my doctor is not available for two weeks I have started on the full dose every day, not ideal, but what to do?

It would be best to do each day for a month then go to alternate days. Call physer in Kent ask when they make more, the more we ask they might take note.

Hi Patricia try Kliovance, that is what I am on until Premique low dose comes back - if ever! I am also going to contact BBC Watchdog to see if they can do anything as it is worth a try.

It's Pfizer in Kent that distributes Premique. Tel number on Google.biggrin

Thats a good idea, I will try any avenue, of cource I fear that having been very happily on HRT for 26 years my doctor will get fed up and take me off. I know I would struggle because both my mother and grandmother suffered with menmopause symptoms and HRT has given me a good quality of life

I am now taking Premarin 0.3 mg and  also Provera 2.5 mg (which I take on alternative days). My doctor explained that this was the closest to Premique Low Dose, in terms of chemical similarity, and it is working well for me.

Hi all, well it's a month now that I have been taking to 2 pills from my UK GP ( Noresthistone 5mg and Premarin 0.3mg) and all good so far but it is a pain having 2 pills rather than 1 as well as my B12 and Folate so my Spanish Gynaecologist has prescribed one tablet as ANGELIQ 1mg/2mg which I know are stronger than the Premique low dose at 0.3mg/1.5mg, she said there isn't a low dose alternative so I will try these for a month and if I am not comfortable with them I will go back to the 2 pill option. I have Google searched the ANGELIQ and it does give some contra indications but there also some positive reviews too. Will keep you posted.

My doctor has put me on Femoston-conti as an alternative to Premique low dose, this is slightly stronger at 0.5 mg/2.5 mg and is one tablet daily, so far so good.

Hi all, well here's the latest update, having tried the two pills (see post below) and then the Angeliq from my Spanish Gynie, I had not stopped bleeding for nearly a month so on my last visit to the UK went to see my UK GP who prescribed Livial (tibolone) after 2 weeks on those the bleeding still continued along with sore and swollen breasts (too much information I know) and also that horrible 'period pain' feeling in the stomach so I have just bitten the bullet and stopped everything, it's been a week now and scarily, I feel fine!!biggrin  and am delighted that bleeding and other symptoms have stopped.

Ironically, I received a call from Tesco Pharmacy on Saturday to say they have a 3 month supply of Premique low dose in stock! at 64 I am hoping that I won't need to take it but will still arrange to collect the prescription just in case.

I am in the same predicament so I telephoned and wrote to Pfizer to ask what the problem was. They say there are problems at the product testing stage. But surely a competent multinational drugs company producing this drug world wide can sort this in 6 months or more? So I wrote to Jeremy Hunt and asked whether supply of this drug was regulated. The DoH response reported the same thing about problems at the testing stage but I had also asked about imports from another factory. On that, they said Pfizer thought they wouldn't be able to get it from elsewhere in Europe but would investigate. I have heard no more since February. This must be costing the NHS thousands and thousands of pounds in extra GP visits, trying out other drugs, let alone all the problems patients are experiencing. It's very very unsatisfactory. I am going back to the Dept of Health.

Did you ever get anywhere? I was told by someone in my local pharmacy that a licensing issue can take twelve months to be resolved.

    Hi there

I too had to stop taking Premique Low Dose as it was not being manufactured.  I've been given a replacement but it does not work as well at all.  How have you gone on with the Norethistone and Premarin?  I would be interested to know as, if you find it the same as PLD, I will go and see my GP and ask to change.  With PLD I felt amazing, a bit like the blooming stage of pregnancy (and my gums bled easily), my hair felt thick again and I felt young again.  I was so disappointed when I couldn't get the PLD again. Hope to hear from you soon.

I have been taking Premarin 0.3 mg every day and Provera 2.5 mg (Medroxyprogesterone acetate ) on alternate days for 3 months now. This combination feels exactly like my old Premarin HRT and I feel really well on this. I write the alternative days on the foil packet of the Provera tablets myself so this works fine for me. I can recommend this combination and hope it works for you too.

Do you mean your old HRT Premique or Premarin? I was on Premique low dose.  If you meant premique, I will ask my GP about this - just made an appointment for the 29th April!
