How are you doing now? I just had mesh removed

October 26, 2016. I had a recurring hernia on my

right side after having arthroscopic hernia repair on both sides back in November of 2015. I had a lot of nerve pain on both sides where you bend to sit. Had the surgeon and other doctors baffled. I also had a surface nerve pain where my shirt could not touch my skin. I was put on gabapentin until about a month ago. I was referred to Dr. Micheal Brunt at Barnes Jewish hospital in St. Louis MO. It's been 2 1/2 weeks. I have an infection in two of the incisions. He removed the mesh arthroscopic and repaired the hernia with open. I'm on an antibiotic now. Having sharp burning pain on the right side. Fine while sitting or lying down. Hope you are doing better.

I am slowly, but surely having more good days than bad. It has taken nearly three months to start to get any relief. I am hoping the nerves are gradually becoming less irritated and I believe they are. Two and a half weeks very early days, I was still in agony then. I am taking Palexia for pain and it has been the best thus far with relatively no side effects. I am also seeing a pain management psychologist and am going to try an exercise physiologist. This seems to be working for me, although on days the nerve pain is still debilitatin I am learning to manage it better. I hope your infection clears up soon and if the nerve pain is overwheling listen to your body and rest. Although I know even at rest nerve pain can be debilitating. Wishing you a successful recovery. Be patient with yourself and don't try and please everyone else. The recovery will take longer, try and stay positive. My pain was so bad at times I was suicidal. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Well I am glad I am not getting a Neurectomy done then! But the mesh now thats a different story.

Neurectomy is often done with mesh removal since the nerves all go through the inguinal area. Dr. Ramshaw in TN is a specialist in this. I have heard neurectomy is like 80% success with atheletes going back to the field after.  Who is saying it didnt work? They may have other complications. Thanks in advance.
