Scratch-like marks appearing on skin What is causing this? [picture inside]

Hi, recently I've been getting these marks like this on my skin. Earlier today a line like this appeared on my skin seemingly out of nothing. I didn't feel anything when it happened. What can be causing this? Picture: http://postimg.org/image/97pzxschf/ I *definitely* did not scratch myself. They look like straight scratches but I did some research and they may be burrow marks of some kind. I have also been feeling itchy at night though I do not know what the cause of it is or whether it is related to this.

I have been getting large ones like this and also much smaller ones on my hands and arms and occasionally other places. A few hours later after I took this photo another large scratch-like mark appeared nearby on the same area in plain sight and I was really astonished and miffed about it. I suspect it is from a bug of some kind. What could this be? Thank you.

i am waiting to go to infectious diseases clinic yet again with this problem. I spoke to my private GP and we could be looking at a bird mite infestation..don't really know yet. mine are burrowing but it is not scabies. The mite I have seen with the business part of a magnifying glass is black, scabies mite is brownish. I have found medication for scabies useful in clearing what is on you..but..they manage to reappear. Here is what I am having to do...shampoo hair, leave it lathered for 5 mins, half a cup of bleach to a deep bath, submerge as much of you as you can but not your eyes..rinse off..apply clear nail varnish to anything that looks like a track mark or scratch and keep that up for a week..see a vet for spray to kill pests around the house. Use watered down chlorine on floors, spray carpets with vet pesticide..spray mattress, change bedding, vacume , wipe down all surfaces with weakened chlorine, carefully spray or wipe computer screen or anything you touch such as your phone. Bag clothes after washing and drying for at least a week..see a doctor whilst these things are observable..will let you know if infectious diseases come up with anything..I am exhausted.

I have been getting the mysterious scratches/lines, for 20 years, now. There is no rhyme or reason. They come whether asleep or awake. ( I've literally watched them appear.) They usually come in sets of 2 or 3 and disappear after a while. Doctors only appear shocked, but have never given me an explanation. I just take zyrtec, to keep them at bay. File size is too bigFile size is too big

    1. This is a real thing
    2. I have had it for 15 years
    3. normally two straight lines sometimes slight curved on the surface of the skin
    4. appear spontaneously - not self scratched
    5. dozens of pics just like everyone else here
    6. i think it has something to do with the blood (maybe viscosity)
    7. doctors cant help because they haven't put in their book
    8. they wont put it in their book cause its new or not enough people have it to bother putting it in the book

Hi! My family is battling this right now. We were diagnoses with scabies more than a month ago. We've been thru lots of treatments, and its very hard to get rid of. Most of the time all i see are tiny scratches like everyone is posting. They appear on my children after sleeping and on me randomly. It sucks!!

      Hi Shannan,

How were you diagnosed? Did they find them with an actual skin scraping? I don't see how a tiny slow moving mite can make a three inch scratch on my arms. I thought scabies burrows are supposed to be tiny things? Though I suppose anything is possible.

Also, in which part of the country do you live? Seems like it could be a regional environmental thing to me.

      Hey,

So my son started itching randomly one night like crazy. No one else had any symptoms. I then found out one of my clients were diagnosed with it and she has been at my house many times.

We all treated twice, then i got a bump between my fingers. it was very discrete. I went back in And they scraped it. Diagnosed me right there and said they don’t know how we still have it but that we have to do the treatment again (Permethrin 5% twice).

However, not one of then told me to treat our scalps. So, needless to say it failed again.

We have these random scratches appear long and very short. If it is connected with Little bumps then it could very well be that. I am much more aware now tho, so i tend to see everything which is terrible.

We live in the US, East Coast.

Are you feeling itchy or like something is crawling? I was feeling like pinprick sensations.

      Shannan

do anyone find scratches/welts like this with seperate marks on top of it? this sh** is crazy been going on for like 3 years now. if it was bugs i would think i would have seen them by now but noimage

Yes. Those are exactly the types of marks we have all been getting. I don't see how these can be scabies since the marks are much longer than is typically seen, and also burrows are usually less uniform and referred to as serpiginous.

Someone needs to print out this entire thread and bring it to their doctor. When I've told mine they say I must be doing this to myself. Ha!

    Hi

having had these for years after a tick bite this is what has happened to me. My arms have now muscle weakness, allergic to Sun. I get really ill after scratch marks occur. Awaiting a muscle biopsy for suspected dermatomyositis and that really felt scabified. However, I did find something out, there are several autoimmune disorders that can occur between 2 layers of skin, some are very rare...I always think rare means no one looks because its rare..self perpetuating excuse....One of these will have no blood clues but there will be a skin furrow, it is called eosinophilic fasciitis, it can be mild and caused by a parasite infection (past) or other things...well I have added my bit to our knowledge pool. x

Thanks sky! This is great and provides us with some new leads. Very interesting as my older sun has recently developed symmetrical nodes on the joints of both of his thumbs which look a lot like the Gottron papules that accompany dermatomyositis.

Anyone needing to check for dermatomyositis as for creatine kinase test as well as antinuclear antibody and a very good dermatologists and rheumatologist. will let you all know the findings eventually.

    Hello All,

Thank you so much for this forum. I am joining you all in solidarity against mysterious scratch-like marks that have been occurring for about 3+ years, ever since July 2016, when we discovered we had bed bugs and I experienced the worst nightmare of my life! We came home from being away for the week and they were crawling all over the bed in minutes. After that nightmare I started getting the scratch marks every so often - sometimes ankles, legs, stomach, but mostly fingers. They are always small little pinhead-sized bites that appear in a straight line (sometimes just two little circles, sometime more), they never itch, and they appear and disappear quickly. Below I will attach a pic from a discovery just this morning. A few days ago I had a much bigger bite that is still there - it started it mostly red and then changed to the scab you see - this one alarms me because I'm constantly paranoid about bed bugs. But I actually dont think I have bed bugs - after reading this I think it's something else.

I also feel very small sharp mini stings quite often on my body and imagine I can feel bugs on my skin. But they are so small and quick that I usually just say I'm imaging it. My partner usually doesn't get bitten but the other day there was suddenly a scratch on his arm that was bleeding fresh blood onto the sheets. How did that possibly happen right in front of our eyes? This has consumed my energy for years now and I ready to find the answer.

I am bringing many of the replies on this forum to my derm today, so she will understand these are not scratch marks (she's already told me that before) and that many people are going through this. I'll let you know what happens...

Thanks Abby! We feel your pain (quite literally...lol). Please keep us posted on the results from the derm!

That first picture look like marks i find on myself. You said you discovered bed bugs at one time, did the bites you get look like those marks or were they different?
