Hi I've been taking sertraline 50mg for 6wks and the first 2wks were horendous side affects. I was prescribed sertraline to help me deal with panic attacks and anxiety after I had a TIA mini stroke. I've now upped my dose to 100mg and feeling much better ,my only advice is try and stick with it early on as it will get better.

I'm desperate to make changes and get better but this really makes me nervous and when you're already dealing with anxiety, the thought that extreme thoughts of suicide may crop up does not help lol!
Any help or stories on how your first few weeks went would be really appreciated

I was hitting the wine very other night to try and block it out but it didnt work just made things worse.
I am single working mother of two and work within the NHS.
I went to my doctors on Friday and he has put my dose up to 100mg, i really hope it kicks in soon as i hate this feeling trying to shake yourself out of it.
I am usually girly make up on hair done and ive just completley let myself go, got to the point i dont hardy even bother doing myself for work.
I have anxiety if i need to go different places and the urge to cry is always their.
I have so much positives in my life but just cant seem to get over this horrible drowning feeling.
Sorry to bore you with my story but it helps getting it out there as i am a very private person and dont want to share with fanily and friends.

Aw I know that feeling all too well. I had these weird attacks that felt like I was dizzy or like I was gonna fall but after laying down it would go away. Some people said I must have vertigo from an inner ear infection but after so many times to the doctor and no explanation I just felt so helpless and like I was gonna die or something. I've never had anxiety like that before, just one day started feeling weird and it started getting worse and worse. Ugh I wish I knew what was coming at that time. But finally after months of hell I finally got prescribed zoloft for the depression I was feeling. And guess what after about 6-7 weeks I started feeling better and like my old self. But I still had these attacks once in awhile (25 mg at the time). So upped to 50 & then a couple weeks later another 25 mg again. So I was up to 75 mg for the longest time. And now I started 100 mg but I didn't really want to but I'll just try it out for the month and see how it goes. She upped me too 100 because I wasn't able to focus on school work and stuff like that. Anyways it's good to let it out once in awhile ya know? I'm glad I found this site other wise I'd be stuck in my own thoughts about this stuff. LOL...
Anyway , I hope you are feeling better now?

I've been on sertraline since August 2014, and like you , very bad side effects to begin with. hightened anxiety, strong panic attacks, total dread for the future. once it settled in to my system completly, after about 6-10 weeks for me, i noticed returning to a calmer state without feeling 100%. I know it's said that alcohol can be taken in very moderate doses, but like a moron instead of having 1 or 2 beers and settling for that, I'd do the same the next day, and have wine too ..... and i think that messes up the meds effects, and i have intial side effects again for a few days following, lesson learned with that for me. Also now thinking of learning meditation to calm myself in times of difficulty.

I started on Sertraline 50mg in August last year. Until I got used to them, I had the feeling of being spaced out. I didn't have side effects as such, but after a while, I was going down hill again. My doctor upped the strength to 100mg, so far so good. I have a couple of side effects, but I won't write them on here! Lol! 😜 Hope everything works out for you!
All the best,
Angie
