Hi guys,   [smile]

I asked this in the main 'Depression' forum and then only found this Sertraline forum afterwards so I thought I'd ask here.   smile

I've been on sertraline for two years and it's been a life saver for me but I've noticed the different brands have differing efficacy with me so I was wondering what company/brand you're all on and what you think of it?

I believe the most common ones are Accord, Pfizer, Bristol and Dr Reddy's.

Would be very interested to know what brands everyone is taking!

I looked this up because I couldn't believe that yet again I was having trouble switching brands of 100 sertraline.  I think my pharmacist thought me mad when I said that the Bristol brand made me feel bad.  I've been taking Dr Reddy's for ten days and feeling terrible - nightmares, anxiety, reluctance to go out.  So armed with the info on here which has made me feel that it's not just me, I have now switched to Accord - another brand I haven't had before but will see how it goes.  I'm fine and dandy with the yellow and white packet but I've forgotten who makes tham - didn't have them in stock.  Anyway thanks everyone

Have been on Sertraline for 8 years and for last couple of years no pharmacy in my area (9 pharmacies) has been able to supply the same brand for two consecutive scripts.

As some brands in the early years caused me to have to deal with two or more weeks of side effects I have been unwilling to take anything other than the 3 brands I know work for me. These are Actavis, TEVA, and Aurobindo. Of these 3 the TEVA ones agree with me much better. However none of the pharmacies, independent or chains, can get of these in for me now.

The bi-monthly pharmacy crawl can get you down, but not like the side effects of a change in branded sertraline can!

I was put on Lustral for the first 6 months and I was doing great, some of the normal side effects at the beginning i.e dry mouth, dizzy spells and the like, but these lessened as the time went on. The problems started when I got my prescription from a different Chemist. I lay on the sofa for a week just sleeping and feeling absolutely miserable. Just couldn't work out what was wrong, but then thought about any differences the week before and worked out it was a different brand of Sertraline. I phoned the gp and they arranged for a new prescription for Lustral only. Within a couple of days, I was back to normal. You'd think the medication would be the same, but it isn't. If you find a brand that suits, I would highly recommend you stick to that one brand.

I'm at the stage where I want to stop them completely now and taking it slowly (after coming off them too quick....not a good idea!)

    Wish you all the best!

I know this is an old thread but been reading this and wondered how everyone is doing? I'm on sertraline for GAD and mild occasional depression....all was good when I was taking them after a month or so and after about 6 months I STUPIDLY stopped taking them (last year)....I had no withdrawals and was feeling good but it came back with a bang 3 weeks ago and I'm back taking them ( 50mg per day last week and 100mg this week)...I was reading here about lustral being the seemingly better brand so I checked to see what brand I had been on....they gave me 2 types...teva and lupin...I know it's normal to feel bad for the first 3-5 weeks but having health anxiety I want to try the lustral brand as it seems to be the best quality...so today I rang my pharmacist and asked her about the generic vs lustral. What she told me shocked me! She said that the generic sertraline brands cost £1.64 per box of 28 x 100mg tablets and the lustral brand is £30!!!! She is very knowledgeable and told me that she believes the better medication has to be the lustral as from her experience that huge difference in price can only mean it's better in some way even though the amount of sertraline is identical...also of the few people prescribed it from her chemist they seemed to do better in general.

Due to the huge cost difference I got downhearted as I doubt the doctors wouldnt give it to me (pressure from NHS)....but I rang up and she said it's no problem at all if it makes me feel better...I was so happy she agreed and will be switching over tonight smile...I hope any of you that isn't 100% happy with generic brands to go and make the case to your GP and hopefully you get them.
