i am still sore from the excruciating muscle spasm in my right inner thigh a couple nights ago! this spasm was the worse one yet! I have found that by stomping my feet or holding onto a chair and shaking my legs excessively the spasm lessens enough for me to stand upright and stretch backwards. I can tell when one is coming on so I stand up immediately and start stomping my feet or shaking my right leg until the pain lessens. I'm so glad I'm not the only one to experience this! Misery loves company, right?

I'm sorry, I just now saw your comments, I've got a bedridden husband who has had two surgeries recently & I'm his caretaker, so I dont always see these right away.I know I said I've gotten less spasms since I started drinking alot more water & alot less caffeine but something else that sounds crazy but seriously helps is before getting out of bed I stretch my legs straight out, then get out of bed.If I'm curled up in bed & I get straight up without stretching, I get spasms everytime.I don't know if there's any rhyme or reason to what helps & what don't but I'll take any relief I can get. Thanks for your comments and I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you, I'm just glad I finally saw it.Take care.

I have been trying to find someone who suffers from the cramping I have been suffering from for years. I get the cramps in my groin area where the inner thigh meets the pelvis. It is excruciating pain and I the only thing that helps is if I drink lots of water. I try to drink two bottles of water before I go to bed. Tonight, it hasn't been working. I haven't had these cramps for weeks and for some reason, they are back. Does anyone else have the cramps up this high, where the leg joins the body in-between the legs? From what I read, everyone talks about the inner, upper thigh.

Hmmm, that's interesting, I have severe arthritis in my knees. I actually get these god-awful spasms just about everywhere, it seems like I can't even reach for something without getting one.I've even had one in my neck while driving. There has to be an answer to why these happen & what the solution is, but I'm not sure if anyone will ever fuully know the answers. Thanks for your input, take care.

I do not get them there but I do get them just about everywhere else, sides, ribs, stomach, even my neck & hand, all up & down the back of my leg.The inner thigh spasms seem like the worst of all.I do get them less when I drink more water.I'm just not sure what other factors are involved.

Thank You for your comments, like I said before, I get spasms everywhere, Sometimes I just reach for something & get them.I've had them in my neck, belly, ribs, hand, back of my legs & they are unbearable. With so many people getting these, you would think there would be some kind of common denominator. As far as inknow I don't have any heart problems. I am alot overweight & have severe arthritis in my knees and excruciating pain in the back of my heel.Hopefully someday there'll be an answer and a solution.Take care.

Do you take calcium? A shortage of this can affect your heart. My sister who had also had gastric bypass was having heart issues and I asked her if she was taking the prescribed amount of Calcium that she should be taking, and she wasn't. Now she does and her heart has improved too.

Hello Everyone,
Before I begin, I am not a health professional. I am like you. I suffer from muscle spasms. I will be brief because I am sleepy, but I read so many of your posts as I was researching inner thigh muscle spasms... Much longer story...
I suffered from muscle spasms for easily over 20 years. I do have a solution for pretty much all of you including the inner thigh spasms.
You will be annoyed when you hear it as others have mentioned it. It is very common for muscle spasms to be magnesium deficiency. That's it. Well sorta...
Usually, I think green vegetables to fix this problem, but it gets more interesting.
Here is the term which you probably already know, but I still want to say it...
'Electrolytic imbalance'....
You can look it up, but I will give my interpretation of it and how it relates to you and the cure that I found that works for me.
Problem: Muscle spasms. Can be muscle twitching throughout the body or just cramps in legs whether upper or lower or just throughout your body.
Areas impacted: Entire body, but you can test your body the following ways... If you can create a muscle spasm on command or if you can feel twitches in your toes or create muscle spasms in your toes or stomach, then my opinion is that it is magnesium deficiency. At least that is what was happening in my body.
Problem diagnosed: At least my process... Once you have determined that your heart is health, your liver is fine, and your kidneys are doing it's job, and you have essentially ruled out the major organs and you do not have any diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, IBS, and the list goes on, then it could be an electrolyte imbalance. But let me be more specific.... Sodium (Na), Calcium (Ca), Potassium (K), and Magnesium.
First places to look: Diet, exercise, sleep, water, sunligh, and fresh air. I call them the big 6... All you have to do is check your balance and that will tell you the problem, but so far the likely culprit is magnesium as it relates to diet.
Sooo... one last section and then I am going to sleep. I am blessed to type reasonably fast and to reasonably organize my thoughts on the fly....lol... But I see so many of you suffering needlessly that I want to help or I should say share with you what works for me and you can try it or not try it....
Sodium - You lose it when you sweat and put in your body through diet.
So are you working out alot or sitting in the sauna or out in the sun or my favorite which I believe causing my problem laying on a foam couch sweating alot and not noticing it especially in a hot house?
Calcium - From what I can tell you can lose all your electrolytes through sweat which is the reason Gatorade is so popular. If you notice, they even offer ice-cream at the end of marathons and 3ks and not just gatorade.
Are you replenishing your calcium?
You can do it through ice-cream which will make us fat, but you can also get it through broccoli which will make you skinny. lol....
Are you replenishing your potassium?
You can get it through fruit especially bananas, but my thought on it is that potassium is a natural regulator in the body... Sooo sodium sends your blood pressure up and potassium brings it down and works with your heart.
Last, but not least...
Are you replenishing your magnesium?
My thought is the answer to this one is no as it is mostly a green vegetable item and my belief is that our green vegetables are somehow super depleted of magnesium because as with many green vegetables that I eat there is no way I should be having the problems I have whether anemia or muscle spasms...
If you read this far, then you should stick around for the 3 solutions. Really one solution, multiple approaches. Note: These are what I do specifically... Actually, I will give a new drink that I do, but it is to address multiple issues... Again... this is about you and not about me, but I needed to give some background... The story is much longer, buuuuuut I want to give you some solutions you can try....
Solution#1
Chlorella. Feel a cramp coming on? Make sure you stretch, buuuuut mix one tablespoon of chlorella in water in drink and then continue to drink as much water as you can.
Reason: Chlorella is a superfood, but it also contains enough magnesium to directly address your muscle spasm and goes straight to the area and works immediately. You need to keep drinking water because if you are cramping that hard, you are likely dehydrated. Note: This is all directly from my personal experience.
Solution#2: Order a product from Foodmatters called the green superfood. No, I do not work for these people and I think everything is over priced. lol... If they have it in stock, it is the best, I think 70 bucks including shipping you will buy. You only need a teaspoon and of course it is all natural.
Solution#3: Let's say you do not want to go the Foodmatters route.... Well... You can make your own drink and just pick up the stuff at Vitaminshoppe or your herb store. The key ingredients to the green stuff is Wheat, barley, and alfalfa grass, then there is spirulina, chlorella, vanilla, mesquite, and I believe cinnamon.
Sooo... what I do is... I bought a product called Gardnen Life Raw Meal (not just the protein, but the raw meal from Vitamin Shoppe). It has the barley, alfafa, vanilla, and spirulina in it. I order from a bulk spice company that I use... I ordered chlorella and true cinnamon. I just learned the other day that the cinnamon in the local grocery stores is the cheap stuff...lol.. But I ordered real cinnamon and I just chose not to worry about the mesquite. I found this drink helps to fight muscle spasms...
Solution#3 Is really a continuation of number 2 with the additional things that I add as I am addressing some other health issues that you do not need, but I wanted to share...
Garden Life Raw Meal - 1 scoop. (for general health and vegan protein.)
Chlorella powder- 1 tablespoon. (specifically to heal muscle spasms.)
Cinnamon powder- 1 tablespoon. (for metabolism and for sleep)
extras...
Paprika powder- 1 teaspoon. (for general health)
Cayenne Pepper powder- 1/2 teaspoon (for heart health and nerve damage)
Honey (at night) - 1 to 2 tablespoons - (to help me sleep)
I had a 4th item, buuuut I forgot which means definitely time to go to sleep....
By the way, if you are simply overweight/obese with no other health issues, the above to address the magnesium deficiency should fix your problems.
I am 5'11" and I weight 300 lbs so yep, I am a big guy and my muscle spasm issues are under control, but I am always researching to see if it there is something that I am missing.
So for many of you... you might have sodium under control through a bad diet, calcium under control through eating alot of dairy, potassium under control from eating adequate fruit, but your magnesium might be out of wack.... as the green vegetables are just inadequate so you might need to supplement.
I do have another story, but for another time....
You do not have to respond to me. I was just trying to help.
Give the ideas a try. All of them are natural remedies. Unless you have other health issues... you do not need a doctor's approval to try any of them. Everything is over the counter. I will advise you to pony up and spend the money on the high quality ingredients or else you will find yourself in the same situation ticked off that the above did not work for you. But of course, do what your budget says and fyi... The stuff at the local grocery stores especially for spices are typically the cheap knock off stuff, buuuuuut I am not saying go to Whole Foods to pay 50 bucks for a pinch of true cinnamon either... lol... You grown... Do what you need to do... I just did not feel right reading many of your posts and knowing that what I am doing could possibly help you kats.... So... good luck and may God heal your pain... Peace....
