Shadow on lung

Posted , 17 users are following.

Just looking for some opinion. I had pneumonia a few year ago and have since had various episodes of illness, none of which have been as serious. However, earlier this year had another fever, flu symptoms etc and ended up going back to doctor again. He ordered a chest X-ray which showed a shadow on my left lung. I also had a cough for 6 weeks, out of breath even if talking and spitting flem. I got antibiotics and had another chest X-ray last week. Results show that there is not change in the shadow which shows a mass at bottom of left lung. Going for a CT scan now and concerned how serious this could be. Some people have said that it could just be scare tissue from a few years ago, but obviously concerned it is more. I still have a cough and bring up flem albeit not as bad as a number of weeks ago. Any thoughts?

I am currently being treated for pneumonia, started with it 5 weeks ago but not treated with antibiotics until 10th day as the nurse in urgent care centre told me it was a viral infection even though I had green sputum. I subsequently got worse with fever, vomiting and productive cough. Now on 3rd course of antibiotics, started on Amoxycillin 500mg twice daily for 8 days but felt little improvement and developed pleurisy so Dr in A&E changed antibiotic to Claryithmomycin 500mg twice daily for 7 days. Finished course but still coughing up green gunge and still had pain in left side of chest so began another course of clarythromycin 500mg for 7 days which I'm currently taking. I had a chest xray and the radiologist reported there is a shadow on my right lung therefore I was sent  for further chest xrays including lateral view of right side of chest also. I'm getting the results of these xrays this Friday but like you I feel worried sick that it may be something serious like lung cancer. I also lead a healthy lifestyle, have never smoked and was not breathless until the pneumonia began. Have you had your CT scan yet and were the results ok?

I've been on and off antibiotics since March.

Had 2 colds in the Feb and progressively got worse.Managed to keep going to work but my energy levels were zapped!

Had a chest xray and sputum test, both clear. Now ,finally had blood tests which show an infection. Breathless, wheezing, coughing copious amounts of mucus, usually in morning.Weight loss, loss of appetite, fever and chills when infection was making a comeback.I've now been referred to a chest specialist.

I've never smoked in my life. Its really getting me down, and of course we all worry out it being something more serious. Taking Levofloxin at moment, slight improvement, not going to rest on my laurels though as i improved after,Clarythromicin too. Fingers crossed all is ok for myself and fellow sufferers!

Sounds very similar. I have a CT scan on Monday so hopefully will be able to put this down to something simple. Try not to think too much about it and stay away from google'ing your symptoms. A simple cold on a search will give you a few days to live. Good luck.

Hi, I have just read your story and have the same problem, I've had a chesty cough for 5 weeks and had 2 lots of antibiotics and steroids without luck and was sent for an X-ray and it has come back with a inflamation/shadow on the lung which I am now worried about but have to wait 2 weeks for a CT and appointment with chest consultant, did you get your results from your CT?

Yes, came back clear. Being tested now for COPD with apparently is a n air way infection that can be medicated. Good news is tht nothing sinister. I am sure you are the same. Don't worry about the scan if they were concerned about anything they would have had you take a scan immediately

Ok that's great news, I'm glad your all clear, thanks for letting me know, it's eased my concern quite a bit now. Hoping mine will be the same result, all the best and thanks again.

I know this post is over a year old but I was wondering how you are? I had the same symptoms except my sputum is clear/ whiteish....clarithromycin cured my cough. My GP looked at the scan and said C t scan showed pneumonitis and nodules on my lungs. See a respiratory Dr on July 20th to find out more. So worrying I'm told not to worry but I'm worried sick. Any one had results of their choice to scan yet ? x

Yes 2 weeks is an age when you don't know what is happening! I was told last Wednesday and have been worrying everyday since! I've read that scarring on the lung from previous infections can cause shadowing also. Good luck.

I was put on antibiotics for a sinus infection, I also had laryngitis. Went to doctor on March 3rd and he said i had pneumonia, I called him back and asked about meds the nurse then told me the doctorsaid I didnt need meds because he didnt mean to say Pneumonia. He saw a shadow on my chest xray and I have a cat scan on March 9th. Now I'm severely scared and p*ssed that he had his nurse say ooops he didnt mean to say Pneumonia.

Ask for a CT scan I had the same as you and they have diagnosed me with mild basal bronchietasis.  The CT scan goes deeper an X-ray will not show it
