Shortness of breath with Costochondritis?
Posted , 83 users are following.
I was diagnosed with Costochondritis and I have been noticing shortness of breath along with pain. I have had EKG's and chest xrays as well as blood tests. My doctor firmly believes this is not a heart issue.
Has anyone else noticed shortness of breath with this? My pain is mainly in my sternum but radiates through out my whole chest wall.

just recently have been diagnosed with costo. started off with tightness in my chest and shallow breathing. i felt like i havent been able to take a deep breath ever since this started. with covid going around, you can only imagine what type of fear and anxiety i was having. breathing has not been the same since.

my chostocobdritis can be seen from outside like a protruted bone and its very painful. the doctor in thailand said i need operation to put the protruded bone back in place i used to take sauna everyday but that was in thailand. in the philippines theres no sauna. are there people here who have similar case where theres a bump on their chest?

Thanks for creating this post, I'm really glad I found it.
Started suffering over a month ago with chest tightness and pain, shortness of breath, as well as a bit of pain in ribs/back/shoulder. I'd recently increased my running mileage and it came on after a long run.
After a lot of back and forth (and an initial diagnosis of asthma), my GP just happened to mention costochondritis off the cuff, but couldn't really give me definitive answer. So, I've obviously been looking into it quite a lot.
The symptoms have eased slightly over the last few weeks (after stopping running and exercising, which is gutting because I love it a lot), but randomly started getting some pain and discomfort again yesterday. I work in a lab (and other than, from home), so wonder if it is also related to bad posture / standing for long periods of time.
It's really rubbish, but comforting to know there are other people in the same boat.
Any advice on trying to get a definitive diagnosis, or is it just a case of keeping on at the GP?

This thread has really helped me out. Same story here, i have the pain and the occasional feelings of not being able to breath. I honestly thought I was having a heart attack or some other type of heart issue, with pain even coming to my armpit. Many tests later and no issues have been found with my heart. i really believed i was going crazy up until i started doing my own research and came across costochondrities. I have ended up at least twice in the ER because of anxiety attacks ( that i believed were heart attacks) due to the Costochondrities. What was irritating is that when i would explain the pain in the ribs and sternum it would be chucked as pain from heart burn even when i knew it was not that. It is honestly so hard getting a proper diagnosis. I am now looking into possibly going to a chiropractor for therapy to see if that can help.

My wife was diagnosed with Costochondritis over the phone!!!!!
She was told that because she has an allergy to Aspirin that she could not be prescribed Anti Inflammatory.
The treatment would be rest, hot or cold compresses and really draconian stretching exercises that i think were invented during the Spanish inquisition!!!!
I just want something practical to stop her tears and pain.
I have done so much of my own research
i have a condition in my knee which is arthritis based and i was given an anti inflammatory -Naproxen and this was like a miracle, before i just could not walk without constant pain and now i am doing riverdance!!
I found out that this is one of a few which has no aspirin in what they term as a non steroidal anti inflammatory drug or NSAID.
Has anyone tried these.??
I guess i am just looking at some practical guidance for her to make her smile again.
God bless to all those who are going through this despicable ailment.:)))))))

i also have shortness of breathe , or at least a strong sensation of it . when i check all my vitals are okay , but i still feel very short of breathe . i also feel very weak and pain / stiffness / around my neck & a headache comes & goes . i too have been diagnosed with Costochondritis . it tends to get worse for me as the day goes on ..i think it is radiating out of my sternum too .
i dont seem to be able to find the right pain relief or something that will help my shortness of breathe .
