SLIDING HIATUS HERNIA SYMPTOMS AND QUESTIONS

Hi I'm new to this site, just recently been diagnosed with a 4cm sliding hiatus hernia after suffering for 2 years with horrendous chest, neck, shoulder and back pain! been to A&E a least 5 times this year thinking I was having heart problems! had an endoscopy 4 weeks ago and was diagnosed! so now what? I was sent home with no advise whatsoever. been on all the PPI's for the last 15 years as I suffer with GERD and IBS! I feel bloated all the time, I burp, fart, feel sick and light headed and now I get a pulsating throb from my tummy through my chest into my throat If I eat the wrong thing it feels like I got a tennis ball stuck behind my sternum, really fed up with this now. I won't go the operation route, it's not got a good success rate! so it's maintenance, put the head of my bed on two blocks 8inches high, given up gluten and dairy and all spicy foods eat 3 hours before I got to bed and have a swig of gaviscon as a night cap! I take a multi vitamin and magnesium supplements. the next step is stop smoking and drinking red wine what else can I do? the omeprazole makes me feel crap, so I've gone back to ranitidine. any advise would seriously be welcomed.........

I have had my sliding hiatal hernia 5 cm for five years now I not only get pain on the left side of my chest but also sometimes on the right from what I understand it really just depends on which way your hernia can slide apparently it can slide differently at different times like take for instance if you're eating food he can slide one way and if your are exercising or lifting something heavy it can slide a different way One thing you can do that is reassuring is to go see a cardiologist and make sure that it is 100% not a heart issue I did this many years ago but of course no one likes to be in pain and I get pain almost every time when I eat and sometimes even if I do not eat from gas buildup I do not choose to take the surgery route as from what my doctor told me to do to my work which is strenuous and physical I would likely not have a good success rate and it would fail it is all trial and error good luck

how much food we consume at one time.
If you are following this discussion I would like for all of you to try this as this is where I'm at. My husband has an old stretch band that I put onto my upper stomach that he used for work out. When I do this it seems to hold my stomach down while I eat and I do not have the severe pain.

I don't use it every day, this would begin to activate my stomach.
I put it on though in the morning before my stomach has a chance to swell or bloat. I place it directly under my bra. I wait an hour or two to eat anything.
When I eat this seams to hold my hernia in place and keeps my stomach from bloating so big.
Keep in mind that I am still watching the types of food and portions that I am consuming.

I also have fybromyalgia.
In searching the web I read about the Vagus nerve which goes from the brain into all of the organs.
I wonder if the hernia pinches off this nerve causing problems with all our organs?????
Anyone know of a connection there?

Sorry only getting back to you now tina. When I told my doctor about the dizziness, she prescribed tablets called Betahistine dihydrochloride, You can take upto 3 a day. She thought it was inner ear problems, but I'm convinced it's connected to the vagus nerve. The tablets don't really seem to be helping, maybe I haven't given them long enough. Also these ppi's drain the body of magnesium, which can also cause dizziness. Let's hope there's light at the end of the tunnel, because hard to take any more of this. The symptoms seem to be getting worse all the time.
