Smelly gas like sulphur and rotten eggs

Hi all. So embarrassed but don't know what else to do. I actually am getting seriously depressed as It Is so bad.

I have been getting really bloated and pass the most foul smelling gas ever, it stinks and lingers in the room. I'm having to air my bungalow every evening.

I eat relatively healthy, excercise regularly and am slim.

This has been going on solidly for 2 whole months. I have tried eating different things but i just keep getting this awful smell! Sometimes I feel like I'm going to shit myself!! I can't have people over and am scared to go out when I know I'll be in a small space. I gave up my job!!

I have had to do a stool sample, all clear. The doctors just say I have IBS. They gave me colofac (mebeverine) which did nothing! I don't know what the hell to do!!

PLEASE HELP

Hi jennyjames, I am so relieved to see that Gabapentin is the cause of your smelly gas as I'm having the same problem and thought something was seriously wrong with me. Since you are no longer taking Gabapentin, I was hoping you could tell me what you replaced it with. Thanks!!!

I think you are suffering from a food intolerance, possibly dairy or eggs or yeast. I have all three and when I do eat these food items suffer very similar symptoms which start about a hour after eating them. I would suggest you eliminate Dairy, Eggs, Wheat and Yeast for one week and see if the symptoms dissapear and then try each one to see if they come back. Or go get a food intolerance blood test (costs about £200) and that will tell you everything you should avoid. Note that the doctors will not do the blood test for you so you will have to go private. Good news is that once you find out what the intolerance is/are and stop eating them then all these symptoms will go away!

Try a 30 billion or more probiotic twice a day and see if that helps. I think the smell is from food in the disgestive track that hasn't cleaned out. Hope that helps.

    Hi Dear

I had the same problem it goes n come back. The 1st time my doctor told me I had a stomach bateria that comes from the water. He gave me 4 kinds of antibiotics for 2 weeks and all the gas went away and I felt great. I also had a colonasterpy done. Antocostopya done too. I have gastritis so that is my problem too. Your Doctor should start doing more deep text on you.. go to a gastrointestinal doctor.

Every morning drink warm water with a squeez of natural lemon on an empty stomache. Then thru out the day have natural ginger boiled for at least 30min with lemon as well. Make these apart of your daily diet and your problem is solved.

Also going for a treatment of colonic cleansing wouldnt be a bad idea..

Try Anise star. You can get it at almost any grocery store. You boil the little pieces for about 5 minutes.  I drink a little bit everyday and it prevents the gas

Hi Jenny, Ginger is your answer... fresh is preferable.. add it to your meals during cooking or make teas.. hope this helps... by the way also fennel seeds are said to help but my personal preference is fresh Ginger

So you mention that you're slim and you eat healthy. Do you eat a lot of beans/brocolli/caulliflower? I'm severly intolerant to these things which keeps me from doing a lot of holistic diets. They make me ill within minutes of eating them, but I started by having the same thing you're describing.

Hope everyone is feeling better. I feel your pain. The sulphur gas is due to the consumption of sulphur foods!

I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease when I was a teenager. I quickly found, through the medication perscribed, that I was allergic to sulfa's. It took me several years to learn that many foods contain sulphur. I would have these occasional bouts of 2-3 day long sulphur burps/gas and a massively bloated stomach.

Individuals with IBS and Crohn's cannot breakdown foods with sulphur.  I'm fine as long as I stay away from these foods and remain relatively stress-free. Google "foods with sulphur". Meat, dairy, eggs(barf), and many vegetables.

I seriously hate this sulphur allergy. The smelly sulphur burps make me throw up, which smells even more....it's just the worst. I feel awful for eveyone who is dealing with this. To get through a bad bout, I take pepto to help absorb the sulphur and a suppository to move the guilty food out of my colon as fast as possible.

    Hope this helps someone!

Hope your doing better. I'm taking a raw probiotic now and I think that took care of the problem. I'm not allowed to give product names on here, but if you look up raw probiotic, it should come up. Hope this helps. Take care
