Smelly gas like sulphur and rotten eggs

Hi all. So embarrassed but don't know what else to do. I actually am getting seriously depressed as It Is so bad.

I have been getting really bloated and pass the most foul smelling gas ever, it stinks and lingers in the room. I'm having to air my bungalow every evening.

I eat relatively healthy, excercise regularly and am slim.

This has been going on solidly for 2 whole months. I have tried eating different things but i just keep getting this awful smell! Sometimes I feel like I'm going to shit myself!! I can't have people over and am scared to go out when I know I'll be in a small space. I gave up my job!!

I have had to do a stool sample, all clear. The doctors just say I have IBS. They gave me colofac (mebeverine) which did nothing! I don't know what the hell to do!!

PLEASE HELP

Hi Jenny i have the same issue and i'm finally researching it after years of coping with it, or should i say suffering in silence.  The most logic explaination would seem to be (after lots of reading this morning) a build up of gas in the large intestine caused by food that as not broken down in the small intestine. Certain foods are moe prone to this, certian foods that contain or produce sulfur. I was quite surprised when i looked these up; Cow's milk, eggs, beef and pork (ok fairly obvious) but also Caulifour, onions and garlic and other  of veg i eat!! i've also found out alot of wheat based products cannot easily be broken down and bacteria is used in the large intestine and again sulfur is produced. i have never been able to pin point what is causing my smelliness, i usually get it after every meal but this would explain why. i often use onions and garlic as a base for soups, sauces, meals such as cottage pie, Spag bowl. i think im being healthly but my gut is ofen in bits afterwards.

Anyway this is my plan and i though t i would share it with you in guess it's helpful. I am going to eliminate one food from my diet every week that i normally eat. One food that is that i believe my be causing me a problem. I am going to start with wheat because my daughter is wheat free so that will be easiest for me, then lactose (cow's milk, cheese etc..) then eggs then garlic, then onions etc.. each week i am ging to keep a diary of what i have eaten and how it's effected me. This way i am hoping to be able to pin point the main culprits.

I hope this helps. if your still looking at this discussion let me know and ill keep you updated of my progress if your interested.

The only thing that has helped me be able to have a somewhat normal life is chewing fennel seeds.  I have tried just about everything.  Just thoroughly chew about 1/4 tsp of fennel seeds.

    Hi Jenny,

I came across this discussion two weeks ago when I had same problems and felt desperate. The smell would follow me every day and there was no stopping it! My kids would say: whats this horrible smell in the car, when I pick them up from school!! I was getting paranoid what I was eating-stopped eatting eggs, milk, bread, but it seemd to be getting worse...then I took an advice and tried green tea and it changed my life!!!! I am not saying it will help everybody as I think everybodys body reacts different, but it is worth to try, I have two cups of green tea every day(with honey as I got sweet tooth) and my gassy problems have stopped!!! I read camomile tea might help too.

Just wanted to try if somebody could try it and let me know if it worked for them too...I am a normal :-) person for two weeks now and I actually eat everything.

I have a similar problem that was giving me fear of standing in line anywhere, attending any meeting, visiting someone, etc.  I tried just about everything and the only help I have found is in drinking  1/2 glass water with 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with 1/2 tsp baking soda.  Also the only thing that gives an immediate relief is chewing  a 1/4 tsp of fennel seeds thoughly before swallowing.

I read your post and feel a little more normal. I have a big fear of standing in lines or in meetings for a fear I will lose control of my gas of just smell in general. I've been diagnosed with ibs and MP. My digestive system is a mess. To top that off I'm also in early menopause. All I know is a probiotic helps. Any other suggestions to stop the horrible bloating, gas and control of bowels?

I have found that chewing a half tsp of fennel seeds thoroughly(from spice section) gets quick results from smelly gas.  I also drink half glass of water w/ 2 tablespoons cider vinegar and half tsp baking SODA every morning one hour before eating makes a difference in the long run.  Also have started drinking a cup of green tea in the afternoon.  My smelly gas has disappeared and I am regaining confidence and getting my life back.   Please give it a try.

Better try some pumpkin juice, ripe bananas, and cardamom seeds.

Hi jennyjames, I know this thread is old and I hope you have found relief from your symptoms and gained more knowledge about your health in the process. I have had these same experiences as you and many others who have posted here. I have been using herbal remedies for years now and they are the only things that have brought me relief! I would recommend you get a book about herbs and learn how a more natural approach to health is so much better in the long run. I use both Pau D'Arco capsules and a Fenugreek and Thyme combination in capsule form as well. I would also recommend seeing a Colon Therapist and having a colonic. This brought me some of the best relief ever and now I'm going on a quarterly basis which has made the gas mostly disappear completely!!! We are all supposed to have gas, but now the smell is gone!! Thank Heaven for those incredible men and women who have studied the body and are health practitioners using a more natural approach to healing!! Best of everything to you and your journey towards better health!!

I used to carry around a little bottle of air freshener with me!! It is horribly embarrassing, but I would truly encourage you to look into some herbal remedies like pau d'arco and fenugreek and thyme combination, as well as seek out a good Colon Therapist and get a colonic!! I highly recommend them!!
