Smelly gas like sulphur and rotten eggs

Posted , 200 users are following.

Hi all. So embarrassed but don't know what else to do. I actually am getting seriously depressed as It Is so bad.

I have been getting really bloated and pass the most foul smelling gas ever, it stinks and lingers in the room. I'm having to air my bungalow every evening.

I eat relatively healthy, excercise regularly and am slim.

This has been going on solidly for 2 whole months. I have tried eating different things but i just keep getting this awful smell! Sometimes I feel like I'm going to shit myself!! I can't have people over and am scared to go out when I know I'll be in a small space. I gave up my job!!

I have had to do a stool sample, all clear. The doctors just say I have IBS. They gave me colofac (mebeverine) which did nothing! I don't know what the hell to do!!

PLEASE HELP

    Hi Jenny

I hope you have had some relief with your issue. I have tried something I have not seen and I wish to share it.

I have occasional trouble and it becomes really tiresome and then depressing and the god damn aweful.

So what I find works pretty much straight away is: I fast for one day. No food or drinks other than water and I drink alot during the fasting day and doesn't seem difficult to maintain focus until the evening but its just one day. Then I cut all sort of sugars, no fruit or sweets or soft drink and also no dairy or wheat. I generally eat as little dairy as possble and not so much wheat either after a few days. Keeps me going for quite a while. A happy chappy.

My theory is the yeast in the gut gobbles up the sugars and converts them gas and when the yeast starves they shrink so its fine for a while until they grow again.

Also stress sets me off even stress about having gas, a small vicious circle when applicable. So I use a natural yeast free relaxant. Like Damaiana.

This combination can last me a month and a half good run with the occasional peppermint oil.

I have IBS too and was having real problems, mostly severe stomach pains, gas and loose stools. My doctor recommended I look into a low FODMAP diet, which helps with the symptoms of IBS and alongside the mebeverine tablets has actually helped a lot, I still sometimes have bad days but even those aren't as bad as 'better' days before I discovered this.

This website has a list of what foods are high FODMAP (bad) and low (good). I found it helpful to type it up myself, highlighting on both lists which things I do like and always keeping it handy (in handbag) then when it comes to planning meals and/or snacks you can look through and plan knowing that you should feel not too bad after eating anything.

If you google it you can also get some good recipes that can give you inspiration.

My family has contracted the same thing. But we stopped it by quitting beef. Something in beef alone triggers it. I reluctantly ate 2 small pieces of beef lastnight, well done. The burping has just started The next morning. I drink approx. 3 tsp. Pepto bismol and it works every time. If i dont use pepto, the burping gets putrid, and i vomit for hours. I hadnt had beef in months prior, and it happens like clockwork. There must be a chemical additive in beef or a certain bacteria. I dont know.

Make sure you are not constipated and chew 1/2 to 1tsp. fennel seeds thoroughly after meals.  Only thing that works for me.

    Hello

I have similar problem but it get worst if I eat fruits, currys, yeogurt, and cheese.

At present I use Simeticone 125mg, 2 caplets,  when it starts to bubble up and grumble and become uncomfortable it work wonders for me.  You can purchase it at the pharmacy OTC. It is called Windease.

I have had IBS in the past. Colofac also worked but I become constipated with it so I stop it after a while

EASY - you are intolerant to certain foods. Probably lactose in dairy, really bad in skimmed milk.

I had the same problem. i CAN eat without getting smelly gas : potatoe, rice, porridge no skimmed milk, cucumber, peppers and more.

i gave up gluten from wheat and high lactose dairy.

      Hello steve55315

I am trying to identify the foods that really give me bloating with rumbling and gas and make a list so as to avoid it.  It is difficult because I just love all fruits. I am trying a new homeopathic remedy at present.  It is said that homeopathic remedies do not have any side effects as such and do not react with any conventional medicines.  I have only started this one week ago  and as an overall quick assessment it seems to show a small improvement.  Will keep you updated

Yes, yes, it took me 18 months of Testing foods and note taking to pin it all down. After about 8 months I told my friend it was all too complicated for me. BUT After 18 months I have succeeded. I have not had bloat oR smelly farts for 4 weeks and I know which foods to eat now. It has given me confidence above all.

I never tested fruits so I still do not know if I can eat them but I only eat a few bananas and not over 3 a day I have learnt.

For me beans, legumes - even peanuts and lactose are the big be- careful ones. I can eat A little of both, but too much and POW! I clear whole buildings if people!

Thoroughly chew fennel seeds and swallow them.  Start with half a tsp after eating and increase as needed.  It's the only thing that has worked for me so I can live a somewhat public life.  Please give it a try!

Happy to hear you figured out your problem.  Mine is dairy products that causes most of the odor along with some fruits, vegetables and beans.  Also sweets are many times a problem.  There are so many lactaid free products available now and sugar is something we should do without anyway so life is good.
