So mad and fed up!

Just had a lovely morning walking round town. No Vaginal discomfort, felt great.

Now this afternoon its a different story! Sore sore sore!! Don't want to do anything or go anywhere.

I've had this Vaginal Atrophy for over a year now. Yes I get some good days in between. But I don't know if that's not worse than having it bad all the time - because on good days I am hoping and praying that the problem is resolved, then it comes back again!

I saw the Doc recently as neither the GINEST or Vagifem worked for me. She told me there was nothing else to help!

So then I went to the chemist and she said I should see Doctor again, even though i'd just told her the doctor said there was nothing more they could do for me!!

I've got lubricants to use but they don't stop the problem coming as there is no hormones in them is there. Also they don't stop the wanting to wee all the time either.

So sick of this. I get up in a morning wondering if I am in for a good day or bad day. Was going to the Supermarket this afternoon but the VA completely put me off.

Thanks for listening

Shirley

Hi Shirley exercise especially walking does seem to aggrevate the condition.  I resigned myself to having to wear panty liners something I have never ever done and thought I had done with all that when I no longer needed tampons.  I also use a pre-exercise cream that works as a barrier.  If I dont do this then any exercise sets it off.

Most of my underwear is black and I do predominantly wear trousers too which isn't ideal.  I do remember a work colleague once saying that she was allergic to black dye so I wonder if that is a factor for some of us.

I was hoping this was a transient problem that would go away but have now accepted this is a problem for life and that you have to adapt your lifestyle and stick rigidly to it.

Vagifem didn't work for me straightaway and i was tempted to stop using it but after about 6weeks I realised the symptoms were lessening so have stuck with it,  The Palm Oil, Coconut Oil and Vitamen E pessaries you can buy are also brilliant.

So my life now is Me and My Vagina!

Every day wear panty liners and use the Protect Me barrier cream.  After showering use a Soothe Me cream.  Every night insert a oil and Vit E pessary, every 3 days insert a Vagifem and at the first sign of symptoms insert some coconut oil.  Avoid stress wherever possible. Use Yes lubricant liberally before sex, wash immediately afterwards and occassionally use a Yes moisturiser.

As well as being painful it is really expensive and I wish the pessaries were available on prescription

    Don't you love getting old.

Hi  been reading all that's been written on this miserable meno condition ,I find along with what's been said ,it's the anxiety that comes along with it ,due to the continual discomfort ,I suffer sciatica ,so that makes this whole lot worse  I've had the Ovestin ,didn't find no relief from that .

I tend to now stay away from leggings etc when in home ,most of us females prefer for ease ,I go for Kaftans in house ,on advice given to me .

I wonder what our ages are in relation to having this ,me Im 68 ,my cousin in same sit ,also 68 ,she's been on Ovestin 2 times a week. But says still feels it  uncomfortable ,and another cousin 63 in same situation .so age is why I asked ,or does it cross all meno ages ?

Never known anything to keep going and going .Didnt think Id have this in line for me ,like non of us did .Miserable every day .

Hi Linda, Thanks for your message. Must admit I'm not one for exercise but I've heard it aggrevates the condition. I'm not one for long walks either though I used to be.

I wear trousers and jeans most of the time too. Not heard of allergies to Black dye before.

Yes I was hoping it would just go away too but I've had it on and off since July last year.

I used Vagifem for about 8 months and gave up because it wasn't helping and the same with GINEST. Glad the Vagifem helps you though.

I've got the Vit E Capsules but not sure its a good idea to put one up inside. Although the oil inside is meant to be great isn't it. Having said that it would no doubt soothe my soreness but it wouldn't stop it coming would it. It needs the Vagifem, GINEST or Ovestin or similar to do that doesn't it.

But yes I wear panty liners too as I use another moisturiser, forgot its name. And I use Hydromol when I have a shower.

No sex here so that side of it is irrelevant.

I know its very painful, expensive and uncomfortable.

And yes I agree with Marlene too about the anxiety side of it. Not had sciatica for ages but I know what it's like. Will have to give the Ovestin a go I think, sorry it didn't help you Marlene.

Yes Kaftans etc makes sense too.

I'm 58 Marlene so a bit younger than you and your cousins.

No I've never known anything keep going like this either. In fact I can't understand why I have never in all my life heard anything about this condition till I got it last year.

      It's awful isn't it! sad

Hi Marlene:  I am going to weigh in on your comments, I am 70 and have had this condition for 5 years.  If not for this, I am a healthy active woman .. but the pain brings me to a halt.  I took Premarin, which I think is like Ovestin, and it helped for 4 months but now I am in pain and have a UTI for weeks.  Of all the things I worried about in aging this was not one I ever imagined... like you I stay away from leggings and prefer skirts ... miserable too

You sound exactly as myself word for word ,b..... Y nightmare Id call this ,only time comfortable to any degree is when I'm horizontal  I suffer to from Mal de Dembarquement syndrome ( balance ) had that 4 yrs ,so with Sciatica ,balance and this ,don't make me a happy camper ,far from it

Sciatica and the Gyne ive had now for 8 yrs ,and talk about wriggling when sat ,tend to sit on my hip joints to get relief from both .think to women get lot of UTI from the bladder and womb ,being only 10 cms from bowel inside,so little wonder this hangs around for fair few years ,and how estrogen protects us that's until it all goes pair shaped and things thin out inside .

Sorry that you and everyone is suffering this .women with Crohns and Celiacs have this as part of their condition wasent aware of that either .Things I can still learn at this age Im at .

Hi yes I'm in the UK ,yes this does hold you in limbo .Try this Try that to help relieve it ,all one with it does. Hope we wake up one of these days and it's stopped as it began .Women drs go through this ,so I prefer a woman Dr for almost everything these days ,got all body make up we have ,know what and where you describe things .You hang in there to ,tomorrow's another day .

I'm going to be 65 in January. Suffering just like everyone else for about 8 months or so although that was when it was finally diagnosed. I was having constant uti's and symptoms long before.

Me to Nancyo...never thought I would have so much pain and be so miserable in my old age...trying to stay positive. Just wish there would be a cure to look forward to.

Hi Marlene it does put you in limbo.   I have tried everything, been to so many doctors, seeing a female urogyno and truth is she has no concrete answers, try this, try that exactly.  There is a study at Stanford to clinically investigate and asses safety of the Laser for the treatment of Laser Atrophy and I am trying to get into it.  No more options...

Wondering about the laser thing. I don't know much about that. Are you referring to the Mona Lisa laser thing?

Mine all began after a bad illness ,then this all began ,but I had lost over 4 stone in weight ,think this then resulted in my getting Sciatica ,as I had no muscle tone at first ,then this followed on behind it ,told several drs it was uncomfortable to sit  had 3 seperate Gyne check up ,the last one Dr put me on Ovestin ,after I went through a chemist shop products ,I thought once I got weight back on ,this would have cleared up ,obviously got that wrong .

So weight loss I think became kicker for bringing this on in first place ,when I hit meno at 48 yrs had bit of this then ,but cleared itself ,older now and it's just stayed  the illness set me of down meno track for a second time ,which I've found out can happen.

Weight loss could have triggered some of this I think because women have estrogen in body fat I think. If you lose weight you might lose estrogen which might cause VA symptoms...I'm just guessing but o think there is a connection between body fat and estrogen. Sciatic pain is just terrible. So sorry you had that too,

Must be literally thousands of us with this issue ,look on any female site on the Internet speaks volumes to the many problems women get .

Laser atrophy I've never heard of .never k ow if it's out of the fire and into the frying pan ,I live these days with buyer beware mentality ,I got Mdds after an osteopaths visit within 2 days for sinus drainage ,I know that's happened to 2 others ,so I'm wary of anything .Limbo were in ,says me sat fidgeting sitting on a heating pad .

Pat ,yes I think that's what set this off ,weight loss and quickly in its wake this all kicked off ,I've put weight back on ,so more backside padded ,but Sciatica and the Gyne stayed ,even a doughnut ring never helped .

In the beginning ,I did think Levator syndrome ( cyclist syndrome ) as it was in an article by a UK Dr ,yes it did read the same as how I felt ,so ? Is that something to look into outside of AV or maybe together ? That happens through weight loss ,but it's not well known condition this Dr said ,he was a older Dr saying this .I know when I read it ,it hit a nerve .mentioned this to Dr ,fell on deaf ears yet again.

Deaf ears ... I think we see that too often. That is why we have to be so proactive with our own health....I am going to look that up. Knowledge is power they say.

There's a site purely on this condition ,I was amazed when I to looked it up  after reading that article ,this poor women had had it for 15 yrs ,everyday pain ,like what's being said here ,she said when she wrote to this Dr mentioned and described her long standing symptoms ,he knew what it was ,think this lady was in our age group to ,still got the article .Let me know your thoughts once you've had a read ,yes knowledge is great ,it helps fight this daily battle ,to finding a way to relieve this pain we have with it ,I've just started having a daily Garlic capsule ,to try and flush through system ,as it acts as a anti bacterial naturally .yet another thing to try ,but worth a go .

Pat ,I just put up Levator Syndrome ,or you can put in Cyclist Syndrome ,took me straight to it ,it was that quick ,then go down to the forum,I was gobsmacked at how many were on there  talking about it  will look that bit the Dr wrote .I know heat pad was mentioned by a lot for relieving symptoms ,I've got mine ,when pain is high ,best £30 spent .Oh put Levator Ani syndrome ,Ani came in there somewhere to ,memory serves me .Will go look again myself to .Old drs do know far more for sure .Hope you find it ,worth a good read up .
