So mad and fed up!

Just had a lovely morning walking round town. No Vaginal discomfort, felt great.

Now this afternoon its a different story! Sore sore sore!! Don't want to do anything or go anywhere.

I've had this Vaginal Atrophy for over a year now. Yes I get some good days in between. But I don't know if that's not worse than having it bad all the time - because on good days I am hoping and praying that the problem is resolved, then it comes back again!

I saw the Doc recently as neither the GINEST or Vagifem worked for me. She told me there was nothing else to help!

So then I went to the chemist and she said I should see Doctor again, even though i'd just told her the doctor said there was nothing more they could do for me!!

I've got lubricants to use but they don't stop the problem coming as there is no hormones in them is there. Also they don't stop the wanting to wee all the time either.

So sick of this. I get up in a morning wondering if I am in for a good day or bad day. Was going to the Supermarket this afternoon but the VA completely put me off.

Thanks for listening

Shirley

Hi Shirley well I spoke too soon as I am burning up while writing this.  I am a dance instructor and held a class this afternoon and am suffering a bit now,.  Yesterday one of my neighbours stressed me out and I am sure there is a connection.

It really gets me down too. I am 59 and the thought of having this for a possible 20 years or more even is just too much to bear thinking about.  I don't know why the subject is never discussed.

Will admit when I see all these celebs with their frozen faces I think yes your face looks young but I bet your vagina isnt lol

Hi Linda, Sorry you are burning up! What a lovely job youve got. Such a shame to suffer because of it. Sorry to hear about your neighbour stressing you out too. Yes I think there could be a link stress wise too.

Yes it is too much to think about isn't it. And I really cannot imagine why this subject isn't more out in the open.

Your comment re celebs and their vagina's made me smile! :-)

Your  last bit on Celebs ,so funny ,will remember that when lined up on red carpet all smiley ,smiley Good one .

There's not much done for females outside of HRT ,I've heard of the dyes used in underwear ,makes you wonder if something in it .

I see so many products that females purchase from a chemist shop on these Gyne probs ,they say it's more Estrogen as the biggest problem. Either still producing to much or less ,progesterone another ,I know a chemist shop do meno sticks ,used for FSH testing. Wonder if looking at those maybe give indication as to what hormones are doing ,to get accurate picture .think longer it goes on the longer anxiety from sitting .i find it when driving really bad ,no soft seating there .

I had a bit of this when I hit meno short time ,now it's revisited ,did ask Dr is this how post meno finishes as it began ,couldn't answer me as it's different women to women ,least to say wasent happy with that .

How did our own mothers and grandmothers cope  maybe had there home made remedies for it ? I've heard of women refusing to come off HRT after 60 yrs old ,as to what we've got going on,and to avoid the anxiety side of it .What a mess .

Boy, I sure know what you mean about burning up ... I went for a walk.  Was feeling fairly ok before I went.  I walked maybe a mile.  Now the burning sensation is awful.  I'm back at work and will have to suffer for hours until it calms itself ... all in time to walk home.  At least once I am there, I can really relax, put on really loose clothes and get over it.  Sorry to complain.... I saw the burning up remark and could really understand!  This shall pass ... and I will feel better.  Just need to be patient.  Thanks ladies for sharing so much of your lives.

I am with you all on this. I'm going thru all the burning, urinary discomfort like uti, and I agree that stress is playing a part. My mom and grandma never said anything about this. I just don't get it...maybe they were stronger than me. Regardless I just saw my dr again because I thought I had a bladder prolapse in addition to the VA. Turned out to not be too bad. Advised to continue with the Vagifem and do at least 60 KEIGEL exercises every day. I tried using estrogen cream and got much worse so back to the vagifem which does seem to help a bit.

When I first started with this July last year Pat, it was like I had one UTI after another so I had about 8 water tests in about two months! Only one of those tests showed up a UTI. But as I was sailing to Norway for a week in August I took anti biotics with me just in case.

My mum and Grandma never mentioned it either though I remember my Grandma went through a stage of being really bad tempered. I wonder now if there is a link and she had Vaginal atrophy. What are Keigel exercises? I found that the Vagifem doesn't help me. I am wanting to go on holiday abroad and coach trips etc again like I used to before I got married but am wondering what's the point if I am going to end up feeling really bad with the VA. The last thing I need is to be uncomfortable on a long coach trip with it and in a foreign country on my own, yet I used to love doing these things. sad

I am going on a short vacation trip on October 10 for a week. Flying to Orlando Florida ... All the walking and being away from home are stressing me a bit. But I am going to do it. My dr. Was very encouraging saying lay down when you can and do your best to enjoy. Sitting helps a bit as long as it isn't for 6 or more hours. I need to stay positive...keep telling myself I can do this. Wear loose dresses and clothing. Keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well. We have to try to live our lives as we wish and not be afraid. Don't give up on the things you love and want to do.

Hi Pat, I hope you have a great time in Orlando. I was there in 1988. Yes I think I would be stressing at the thought of it too. But I'm so glad you are going to do it. If you tale your doctors advice you should be OK and keeping positive will help too. I will have my fingers crossed for you. You are right, we have to live our lives as we wish and not be afraid. :-)

Must admit I don't think the loss of estrogen is because of weight loss because I got down to my 4st weight loss target 3 years ago. But I have since put most of it back on - I'm an emotional eater and I admit it. So I am virtually back to square one with my weight and need to get it off again. With my 4st weight loss I was a size 10 in jeans. I am now a size 16.

I will be having a 2nd hip replacement in the next few months. When I had my first one last December it was murder because I felt like I wanted to wee all the time and having to keep getting up to go to the loo was no joke. Though it was good in another way as there was less chance of developing DVTs if I kept reasonably mobile. But really Vaginal atrophy and hip replacements aren't a good mix! sad

Oh Shirley, what a difficult set of circumstances you are dealing with. I can't even imagine hip replacement with VA ... The urge to go all the time with the difficulty getting around, I am so sorry. Most of us struggle with weight. I do my best to eat pure and good food when I can afford it. I've been able to control my weight but part of it is being at work and not having things to snack on. All we can do is our best. And appreciate the days when we have less discomfort.

Hi Pat, No not easy having an hip replacement and VA! I've just been for my pre op this afternoon as it happens. Yes I struggle with my weight too and I eat a lot of junk food because it eases an anxiety or pain inside me. It's almost like taking a pain killer for emotional pain. So I struggle with things like Veg and salad etc which is senseless even to me when I know how good it is for me. Yes it makes weight control "Easier" when you are at work doesn't it. I had to give my job up last year before my left hip was replaced. So I am at home way too much these daya. But I agree. We have to appreciate the days we have less discomfort don't we.

Just read these posts today.I am exactly like all of you.So glad to know I am not alone

I know Lee, Its a huge relief to know we aren't alone isn't it. I have been using the Vit E Suppositories since Saturday and whilst they do take a lot of the soreness away and I'm definitely more comfortable in that respect, I have still felt like I want to visit the bathroom often today. I read somewhere that the Vit E Suppositories should help with the UTI's so if that's the case, the only thing the VIt E doesn't do is help with the bladder side of things, presumably because there is no estrogen in Vit E. I'm meeting my mate in Preston on Saturday to go Xmas shopping. I hope I don't feel the urge to wee all day long. sad

I have gotton so i have to go to the bathroom more, sometimes pressure in uretha and at times burning. I think its as bad as the other irritation in the vagina and the vulva.I hope you have a nice time Saturday. Its hard for me to get anything done.I think alot of it is psycological too,the more i think about it the worse my stmptoms get as i focus on them.

If you Ladies haven't done so yet, I urge you to try the baking soda and water thing. I can be p*ssing blood, drink the baking soda water and wait 30 minutes before going to bathroom again. I'm 59 and I've been doing this for 20 yrs. All my friends and BOTH my daughters do this, too. A low tspn of baking soda in a cup of water. Stir it in and drink it down. I promise you won't regret it.

I find Lee that I feel like you re going to the bathroom but the intensity fluctuates from day to day. Yesterday I was going a lot more and the pressure was bad too. So I went to bed early to avoid the discomfort. Yes it is all very uncomfortable and when I'm bad with it, its hard for me to do anything too. Thanks Lee. I've got my fingers crossed for Saturday. Yes it might be Psychological too. And interestingly, after a short time in bed when I am more relaxed, I usually find the symptoms subside.

Do u do it everyday,or just when irritated?Once in the morning?i imagine it nuetrlises the urine and makes it less acidic?
    • Posted

Me too,in fact after i go to bed after a short time i usually feel quite comfortable.maybe when laying down it takes the pressure off everything.
    • Posted

That may be it. Perhaps laying down takes the pressure of everything. I was in bed at 9.30pm because of the V A last night.

Baking soda and water sounds like something to try.wonder if it would make a glass of wine tolerable lol
    • Posted

If you will follow this dosage with several bottles of water and find it stops the pain, I would wait till the next day to see what your body says. If it's bothering you again, by all means, drink another and follow with water. The baking soda turns out systems from acid to alkaline, almost instantly. The water you intake afterwards, FLUSHES out the acid. I don't think most of us realize the foods we eat that are acidic and that our systems can become more delicate with age. Please let me know if this works fit for you. 🌹 Good luck.

I can certainly understand your concern about feeling like you need to be near a bathroom all day. Please try the baking soda and water. You've got nothing to lose. It isn't harmful at all and won't interact with medications. I hate to think of someone suffering when the very cure may be in their kitchen. Good luck.

After a couple of bottles of water, a glass of wine isn't gonna hurt you. Depending on how sensitive your body is, I don't see why you couldn't have some the same day. If you get THAT FEELING again, by all means, drink your BS water and follow up with water, Again. I recommend waiting a half hour, at least, before giving in and going to pee. I felt awful but I've made myself wait an hour, when I thought my bladder was gonna explode. There was, literally, drops of blood in the toilet and I only had to do the baking soda, ONCE! I'M NOT A big water drinker but when I finally did pee, my bladder spasms had eased A LOT and the burning was almost GONE! THAT was when I wised up and flushed my system with LOTS MORE WATER. The next morning, just to be safe, I did the BS routine and water flush, AGAIN.

Anytime after that, if I felt it coming, I knew what to do. I got no real relief from antibiotics. All I got with those was a huge Yeast infection (which I now treat with acidophilus and yogurt). Good luck.

Thanks so much.i will give it a try. I googled it and apparently alot of people think this really helps.
    • Posted

Yes I will give it a go. Not sure about the wine though. I don't drink.

Good for you.I have a feeling i wont be drinking much now either.Last time I had a stomach problem I went on a low acid diet, quit drinking for 8 months and lost 40 pounds of which i was so proud.I have gained back half the weight in about 3 years.if I want to make any positive out of this,I might get that weight back off.i would imagine a low acid diet could really help the irritation of this condition The urine when high in acid must not only affect the bladder and uretha but also irritate the vulva.I dab dry with water but i am sure there is still urine that irritates it.My doctor calls alcohol poison..maybe he is right.I really like the relaxation of wine, but if its going to make symptoms worse, well id rather skip or just do very infrequently when i go out with friends. For some reason here in the US everyone looks at tou funny if you dont drink.I have one of my best friends that when i wasnt drinking when out looked at me like i was from another planet lol plus my husband loves his drinks,I'm sure he wont be happy if i quit drinking. He will think Im boreing

Hey Ladies, ive started taking calcium citrate. I have read it can help with burning irritation especially with urination. Its quite a few places on the net.Might be worth a read. This could possibly help with VA symptoms.
    • Posted

Says 400 mg 3 times a day for vulva pain etc
    • Posted

Blimey, They'd look at me funny then because I don't drink as I've said before. My husband is used to it and rarely drinks either.
    • Posted

Sorry Lee, I accidentally sent that message too quick. I was going to say that it sounds like a good idea of yours to skip alcohol all together or just have it now and again. Yes acid in the Urine must affect the bladder, urethra and vulva. I agree. I'm going to take another dose of baking soda today. See how I get on.
