I first had a throat infection in April this year, my Nan had told me a couple months before then that there is a lot of throat infections going round at moment and apparently it's this one called Strep. Had never heard of it before but then couple mnths later I was having the symptoms of it.
It feels at first like a patch of the back of my throat is going really dry so even just breathing slightly heavier while cleaning for example would irritate it and no amont of swallowing would moisten the patch.
Since I had it the first time I've occasionally felt that feeling again but if ive not smoked or drank too much right at the beginning (which i normally do every evening) then it can sometimes go.
It was confirmed a throat infection the first time, she wasn't sure it was strep as at the time there were no white/yellow puss/blisters but that stage Ive found comes once it's just starting to heal. A nurse told me those patches are actually scar tissue.
I've had strep 3 times now since then, last time finished about 2 weeks ago and wasn't that bad as I had been eating a raw garlic clove every night, gargling apple cider vinegar at least twice a day and hadnt smoked or drank since I realised it was def trying to get me again. Doing this was just about keeping it at bay for nearly 2 weeks but i think working on the phone at work and not getting my full 8 hrs sleep meant it won in the end. I went dr's before it got to the agonising stage and luckily she gave me antibiotics which worked really quickly - after just 2,3 days felt like it had nearly gone but even at the end of the 10 day course it never felt like it had completely gone.
1 week after I got rid of it I feel it coming back again, starts with a virus and then the strep starts attacking my throat again. I've had my tonsils out about 18 yrs ago (im 29), nurse says streps even more painful if you have no tonsils as it lays on the throat bed which has more nerve endings and spreads. My strep gets so bad I have woken a few itmes gasping for breath as my throat has nearly closed up and it's the worst stinging pain ive ever felt whenever i drink some water or eat, or swallow.
It's not that bad yet but I don't know how im ever going to get away from it, it could ruin my career if i dont find a way to kill it forever. All I see online is how to get rid of it naturally, which I've tried but unless you're off work for 2 weeks each time there's no chance of u winning and will probably come back again.
I had really bad depression last year and I'm still on quote a lot of tablets for it, and was diagnosed with acid reflux just before i got the strep. The reflux tablets worked and the rest of you have mentioned it too, so maybe that's creating a breading ground for the bacteria?
Has everybody else's been confirmed to be strep or had symptoms of strep, what are the symptoms of your throat infections?
thanks

Hi,
I am suffering from exactly the same things. Sore throat, ear aches, pain around my wind pipe...
I have had bloods drawn and no infections showed up. Am getting very worried and starting to think worst case scenario now. I had chest X Ray's yesterday and am waiting for an appointment with a ENT specialist.
Did you find out what was causing your discomfort? Really hope you got it sorted. Nat

went bck to ENT and was dianosed with linual tonsilitis. which is what you get after you have no tonsils. my GP looked at Guidelines for australia and it said Penicilllan yes it works unti10 days but can return. the guidelines recommend that the lingual tonsils.. be removed and yes it is very very painful
the pain has gone at the moment .. have had it twice this year .. 28 weeks !!!
but there is stil a bit of swelling
i did a test for research .. and Strep showed up in my bowel. so i have not seen ENT to show him this. yet. but next time i will see him straight away.. ,

I have finally found some relief. What I'm doing now is what an ent has recommended. I tried all the nasal steroids and none of them worked, so I was positive it wasn't allergies, and maybe it was LPR. Then, I tried this last final one, which was water based, and not alcohol based, its four times the price, and it's called Omnaris. I take it twice a day, ten minutes after a saline rinse.
I am also on elavil and I am also finding this helps. I am not 100% but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now. Seriously, try a different nasal spray that's more expensive!

Hi Scott -
I have been drinking over 2litres of water everyday and this has helped my chronic painful sore throat which I had for over a year!
However I'm still hoarse and have voice problems whilst singing but I do believe that's stress related.
Still working on that!
Wish you better x
