Still bloated after gallbladder removal?

Hello guys it's me again. So I have been having a couple of issues after my gallbladder removal on August 5th. My stomach seems to feel very full now. This happened maybe 3-4 days after my surgery. I also started getting nauseous. But what bothers me the most is this bloated feeling. It's very uncomfortable and I can't eat much because I feel so stuffed and the nausea makes it worse. If I do try to eat my stomach literally feels like it's about to burst and it makes it hard to breathe. I've been walking here and there maybe 20 blocks each time as I was told walking will make the gas leave. But I feel so bad I'm not sure if anyone has experienced bloating this long? A friend of mine said her bloating and has left in a week. Is it possible to take ginger ale to help me burp, maybe gas x, anything? I just want to feel good again and I honestly feel sick. Don't think I'm constipated and I've been having bouts of diarreah and soft stool.

It's been 10 year's since my gallbladder was removed. And I still live with major bloating. I'm so tired of the gas, the constipation. Everything is irregular. I eat healthy and I'm fit. I keep wishing one day I'll wake up and feel better.

Hi, I had my GB removed in February this year. I still get bloating and occasionally my tummy is sore to touch. However I genuinely feel this is down to my diet. I rarely eat bread but when I do i get bloating feeling. I cannot eat anything with garlic, red meat or rice. My diet for the last few years has been very boring. Now I'm back at WW and watching everything I eat. My advise keep a log of everything, no fried or greasy foods. Hopefully this should help.

Hi are you feeling better?
I had my gallbladder out about 3 1/2 weeks ago and my tummy is still swollen. It doesn't feel as bloated but swelling from my belly button up towards my ribs. I had a weird experience in that one day my husband was talking to me add I started making no sense. I couldn't put words together. He thought I might be having a stroke so he took me to the ER. I was told that I passed out on the table when we got there. My blood pressure was 60/40 they did all kinds of tests on me. I don't remember anything not even the drive. I remember waking up in a hospital room. Tests everyday until the 5th day they took my gallbladder out and they said my liver was swollen and had lesions on it from my gallbladder being enlarged and very infected. I went home on the 6th day. I did have the surgery that went through my belly button plus 3 other small incissions.
The other weird thing is that I had no previous symptoms that my gallbladder was messed up not even a fever. I have heard that when you get older sometime your body doesn't show the same symptoms. I am 60 years old.
The Dr told me that they cut the abdominal wall, I was wondering if that is normal? I would think so but what do I know. I was thinking that maybe that is why it feels swollen. I still can't eat like I used to but I need to loose about 20 pounds anyway. I see my surgeon in 5 days. I will let yu oh know what she says

Hope you're doing fine. My GB was removed last Aug 26 and I 'm doing good. However, I have to eat smaller portions and lots of fruits and veggies. One more thing, I have to reduce eating and drinking dairy products. What worries me now is that the side of my bellybutton is still swelling. It still hurts sometimes especially when waking up every morning. Hope we' ll be okay and get back to nornal again. I'm just 27 y/o by the way.

Hi to everyone, I'm male 56, I had my gallbladder out 2 weeks ago ,they started with keyhole but had to move to open surgery as my gallbladder was disintegrating.
felt awful for ten days and then ok ish, but the last couple days ,wow sharp pains all over my ribs ans back, may be there is no normal after this surgery? We all suffer differently,I can eat normally, but healthier, also if we don't eat anything we will have a reaction to it when we do, I'm trying to eat more veg, white fish, chicken, and eat about 6 hours apart to try to give my body more time to digest food than before.i do worry as we all do but am hoping for the best, as someone else said it can rake two months,
all the best ,

Hi Lyndall,
well my wounds are healing, slowly, and I'm still eating what I want within reason, but I have had currys etc,I take a anti acid tablet first thing in the morning,as like others I got a lot of reflux etc. I thought I'd recover from the op etc then deal with the other issues.if needed.
hows things with you?

I am good it’s been six weeks post op. The first two weeks were awful but it’s been uphill since then. It’s all about learning to manage our own symptoms and side effects I think. I still have bruises on my belly button and the scar is pretty ugly but I don’t care about that!

Hi guys, I’m new to this discussion. I am almost 6 weeks post-op still feel like I live in the bathroom. Had my gallbladder removed laparoscopically so I expected the gas pain in my back, neck, shoulders and upper and mid chest. This gas is from abdomen being filled with gas prior to starting the procedure and there are 2 ways to get rid of it 1) Walk as much as possible 2) Just wait until your body absorbs it. My surgeon had a very detailed protocol I was to follow after surgery, but he also said to listen to my body as far as what to do physically and what foods I could eat. I was not to lift over 20lbs for the first 6 weeks. Liquids only for 24 to 36 hours after surgery then start light. He gave me a 3 page list what to eat instead of what not to eat i.e. pretzels instead of chips, white meat chicken without skin instead of dark meat but nothing fried obviously. So for almost 6 weeks I have lived on graham crackers with whipped Peter Pan peanut butter (1/2 to 1 tsp), pretzels, only multi grain bread, scrambled eggs, sandwiches with deli chicken, turkey & ham, light mayo, Land O Lakes canola oil butter, baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, grilled pork tenderloin and jello and pudding. I could have any fruit or vegetable (no avocado). I really haven’t had the bloating that so many have had but horrible gas and explosive diarrhea almost every day. I have only had black coffee, unsweetened iced tea and water drinking constantly. I finally called my internist just to let him know I was going the first of next week to the gastrointestinal doctor and he called in a prescription for Librax. I his is a very old drug that I have taken on and off for over 40 years. I can’t believe I never thought of it since I always have them. I was diagnosed with a spastic colon 40 years ago which is now IBS basically. I guess IBS sounds better than spastic colon. It has really helped with diarrhea and a little with the gas. But unfortunately I have lost about 9 lbs since surgery which I really didn’t need to do since I have lost almost 30 lbs in a couple of years putting off the surgery saying it was going to get better. It doesn’t, you only get more gall stones with the only place to go is into the central duct and make REAL SICK.
So the moral of my story is drink as much as you can, eat light for the first couple of weeks, and gradually introduce a few things one at a time with a tiny bit of fat, eat filling snacks like pretzels, graham crackers and by all means ginger snaps. You have to eat small meals about 6 times a day. But the hardest thing to do is to try and keep yourself as pumped up (no pun intended) as possible. It is definitely not easy when you have the surgery because your in pain, can’t eat, bloated when you do eat and you are actually worse after the surgery. Your mind plays games with you and I have been sure I’ve had about 10 diseases and cried for hours. But I have to say the Librax has made me feel like I have finally turned the corner. I’m sure I will still have the bouts of diarrhea and the gas is something I think we are going to have to live with.
I will see what my gastro doctor has to say in 3 days. I hope that my story has helped a little. Ask your doctor about the Librax but definitely get the generic, the brand is close to $2000 for 60. Check with GOOD RX to find the lowest price at a pharmacy near your home. Good luck to everyone in this group and say a prayer for the group.

I am new to this discussion. I saw my surgeon this morning and am booked in for a months time.
Having read through the thread it appears the road to recovery is longer than advised by our medical professionals and I am assuming very different for everyone. Thank you for your sensible advice - to be honest I was feeling a little (well a lot really) nervous until I read your post.
