Still feel unwell after Helicobacter Pylori Treatment

Posted , 107 users are following.

Hi,

I had symptoms for about 2 months, nausea and upper abdominal gwaning feeling, plus appetite affected and had waves in the day feeling generally unwell , I think it was brought on due to a stressful situation. I went to the doctors and tested positive for helicobacter pylori. I have completed the 7 day treatment (Triple Therapy.) I was on 400mg Metronidazole 3 times a day, Amoxicillin 500mg 3 times a day and Omeprazole 2 times a day. I've been off the medication for about 11 days. I have waves of extreme tiredness, abit sickly feeling, sick upper abdominal feeling, tounge doesn't look right, been given thrush treatment for this. And also I have waves of soreness and swelling feeling in the upper stomach. I have lost a bit of weight, a few pounds. I have been off work for a month in total and am wondering if I will ever get my health back?

I take probiotic tablets, Manuka honey, peppermint tea, abit of yoga, walking, plain foods. But admittedly at times I do feel a little bit destressed when I have waves of not feeling so good. Everyday is a battle at the moment. Plus when I go to the loo, last week my stools were acidic, this week a slight improvement, but not normal. The doctor just said they can retest in another 3 weeks. But sometimes I feel so ill.

Any advice in a positive way forward?

I am so glad to find this site, thank you everyone for your support! I felt really alone and no understood what I was going through even my own regular doctor at Kaiser.

The effects of this has really been hard on me and my family. I feel as though I cannot enjoy anything, even being around my own family is hard. I find myself always sleeping or curled up on the floor trying to close my eyes and forget about the pain.

The gurgling noise keeps me up at night and my doctor says its my acid reflux but I dont know anymore.

Don't give up Bob. I've felt with this a long time. It took a very long time just for the neausia to go away. But it did get less and less over the months. Just took much much longer than it did for most people on here. All our bodies are different though. So I guess yours and mine must be pretty close to the same. But you may have to get an endoscopy to make sure ulcers aren't causing extended problems like mine. I was just looking for ANY good news. Every little bit of good news changes your outlook. People are always here for support , so try to stay in touch. It really helps.

      Thanks Jessie!

I asked my doctor for a referral to see a GI specialist, and I am waiting for them to call me in for a an appointment.

Ive been having strange sounds coming from my stomach, weird and annoying almost to the point where I dont sleep anymore due to it.

I am really tired of feeling this way, with having a tight bloated stomach, fatigue, aches and pains in strange areas, heart palpitations, and diarhea on top of it all.

I am trying mastic gum to see if that helps at all, but i wont hold my breath.

      Thanks,

      Bob

    Thanks Louise63558!

When you take probiotics does it make you feel bloated as well? I am wondering if I should continue taking it and hope that the bloated effects will subside like other placed I have read.

Did they give you more antibiotics for ulcers?

I truly appreciate everyones responses on this forum!

    Thanks,

      Bob,

What helped me were short walks after I ate. I felt nauseous and weak but I did it at least for 5 minutes. Try the aloe Vera juice as well and very small amounts of food 6 times a day. I am sure it will help your digestion. No milk produce and chew very well whatever you eat. I know your feeling. We are so anxious and deppresed that we don't even enjoy the wonderful things we have. However, we need to change our way our mind is set and be more positive. It's easy to say than do it but we really need to do it. Good luck but remember diet is the key to feeling better and walking helps with the anxiety.

    Hi Louise63558,

Do you also experience weird sounds coming from your stomache?

My doctor says I have a hyper active stomach, but to me it doesn't sound normal.

    Thanks,

    Bob

Hi all, I'm new here, unfortunately not new to h.pylori, I'll give you a bit of back story, I took unwell January 17 I had put it down to a sickness bug, few months later and it was back, then it was every couple of months it would go and come back, naturally thin, I've lost even more weight at least a stone, my doctor is just getting ready to test by stool for this after I was hospitalised last weekend because of the persistent vomiting I seem to get with this, I've never felt as bad, living on my nerves waiting for this to rear it's ugly head again! Has anyone been prescribed anything for the anxiety that comes with it?

I had H-Pylori last year. Didn't think it would ever go away. I feel better now but It's been one horrible struggle. Still have so.e problems left from that. Messed up my stomach for good , I think. Anyway about 1 month ago I told my doc I felt like my life is done and that I feel anxious all the time because of this. He gave a prescription for Lorazepam. It's helped lot but I still get that awful jittery dwelling in my stomach daily. Had another endoscopy last week and e every thing was clear. Don't really know what's causing the anxiety now but the Lorazapam does help. I hope for the best for you and also you get back to normal.after a little over a year , I'm still not all the way back.

Hi you are causing your anxiety. Who is Dealing with this, (anxiety) know that a system out of balance acts as such. What adds to it is worry and fear. These things are responses each emotion has effects on the body in relation to everything and everything is connected. Recommendation understand you are not alone in this though it feels that way when it acts up. Find ways to calm yourself. Then when calm, lets all change our thinking, let our set back be our time for reflection on no only what has happened but how we live our lives. If we realise there are a small groups of food and beverages to consume compared to the thousands of products out there which are actually bad for us. So lets not be hasty to want to return to the worldly things that are not even good for us. Have Faith and be POSITIVE when you can and when your not find your spiritual guide. To take the weight off a lil. LETS CONTINUE BEING POSITIVE AND KEEP EACH OTHER TOGETHER🙂

Hi all, I just finished 14 days triple therapy about a week, now just started feeling better.  Took me a month before diagnosed as positive H. Pylori, went to 3 doctors for symptoms often waves of extreme tiredness, fatigue, palpitation even a bit of exercise like jogging for 20 minutes.  Normally, I run 10 km, plus weight lifting every 3 - 4 times a week.  After the therapy, I still suffered from all side effects and the symptoms especially couldn't even lift a 5kg dumbbell, I would get palpitation and could't breathe after 5 - 10 mins of jogging.  My nutrition expert recommended natural food treatment during medication and after therapy which might help..however it is really personal as others mentioned in this forum.  Just try a bit first, if not right for you change.

Absolutely, NO for any kind of alcohol, carbonated drink, especially Coke zero/diet which contains artificial sweetener which makes your stomach become acid), coffee, tea even green tea with high cafeine.  No processed food or high fat like cheese, dairy cream, sausages, bacon, seafood might be hard to digest - squid, prawn, mussels etc.  Chocolate is not recommended but a small pinch would make your day better.

I take a meal for every 3 hours starting my day with this light breakfast every morning with white / dark bread and tuna or salmon with mixed green, then

Brunch 10:00 yogurt - w/probiotic low fat and sugar and banana, apple, cornflake low sugar - small portion of 0-2% fat milk wouldn't hurt.  I also take a non acidic bio-vitamin C 1000 mg after brunch.

Lunch 13:00: white rice or brown rice with grilled salmon / chicken breast and mixed green, and take some herbs - Turmeric (herbs yellow color), and ginger, lemon grass, chamomine, pure peppermint drink - some green tea may contain high cafeine which is not recommended.

Supper: 16:00 - Yogurt w/probiotic or cornflake and non / low acidic fruits - low sugar soya milk.  I use olive oil butter instead of real butter.

Dinner: 19:00 - Fish / chicken breast / lean ham with salad and brown rice.

Always drink room temperature water.  Finally, go to bed early, read books, music, and stay away from stressful TV programs - a bit of yoga and stretching and 10 - 20 min walking will definitely help while I still couldn't go for jogging or weight lifting like usual.

Thanks for the infos. Did you feel stomach pain or nausea? Anxiety? Green tea did hurt you? Yoghurt does not make acid to you?

YES Sharp stomach pain and nausea and anxiety, even palpitation before and during therapy, only recently more than a week past therapy like today the symptoms begin to fade.  Some Japanese green tea actually contains high cafeine worsen the symptom.  Yogurt w/probiotic help balancing good and bad bacteria in stomach, according to  my nutrition expert - only plain flavor - 0% fat and low in sugar  NOT acidic fruity flavor.

Yes, these symptoms are typical for H. pylori. You are lucky that so fastly faded these issues. Probably the reason is that the bacteria could destroy your stomach not for a long time and (due to high sport activity with weight lifting as you wrote) your stomach/you is/are still young. The sport is essential to heal. Wish you the best and fast recovery!

It's been 2 months since my treatment and my stomach acid has not gone back to normal. My food is only being digested 90%. How long before stomach acid normalizes. I am not on ppi.

Does moderate gastritis and inflammation caused by hpylori after its been eradicated cause stomach pain, bloating, nausea. The pain is hard to handle at times and comes with dull lower back pain. It comes 1 hour after eating.

Wish this nightmare just be over with.

Yes, after treatment stomach is not healthy yet and needs lot of time to recover. For me it was 4 months when I realized any better statement after treatment and still now not 100%. Some people needed half year but one of my friend (she was older than me) took 2 years. I think you can count in months but will be better with the passing of time. Very important the diet because stomach needs time to heal now.
