Suddenly blurred vision in Left eye. No one knows the reason

Hi,

I am 30, male, computer programmer. I've never had any problem in my eyes before, but 13 days ago my left eye got blurred and then I started getting dizzy sometimes. I went to the GP and he said it could be conjunctivitis (I didn't think it was, because my eye wasn't red or sticking). I applied the eyewash he prescribed for 5 days, no improvements though.

Then I went to the eye hospital and they made a lot of exams (also with dilated pupil) and the doctor there said she couldn't find anything wrong in my eyes (My problem is in the left eye only) and then asked me to go back in 5 weeks time (24/08)

After these exams I started felling my vision getting better. But today it is more blurred than yesterday (less than in the first days though). I check this by looking in some objects at home, which are always in the same place,and see if I can read the text on them. Other test is to try to focus the computer screen with the right eye covered... I could see reasonable well yesterday, today it is worse, but still better than the first days.

After going to the eye hospital I went to the GP again, and he told me I should go to optician and maybe find a pair o glasses which would make me feel more comfortable.

I don't want to wear glasses before be sure what was the cause for that problem. By my experience in this periodo of 13 days my vision goes better some days and worse other days. Maybe (and hopefully) it can be reversible.

The symptoms I feel in my left eye are:

- Blurred vision (Some days better, some days worse).

- Sometimes it is itching;

- Sometimes if hurts a bit;

- Sometimes I feel like there is something inside it;

- Sometimes I have a feeling as the eyelid is a bit glued;

Something I tested yesterday was to see how light I have going through one eye and compare to the other.

During the day I could see things with more brightness in the right eye (the good one).

At night however, the left eye can capture much more light (still blurred though) as I almost thought I had infrared vision in my left eye...lol!!

All this is confusing for me...

I have high cholesterol (280) and I am over weight (Not hugely though). I also don't have a healthy diet.

I always have perfect vision and now I am scared as this symptoms could be an alert for any other serious problem I have and don't know yet.

P.S.: Sorry for my English, It's difficult to me to described the symptoms as my English is not so good.

Can any one help me please?

    Hi, I'm a 19-year-old female graphic designer who spends a lot of time staring at computer screens, and I also have trouble with my left eye. It has only been for about a week, but I've always had perfect vision up until then. So far vision in the left eye is slightly blurry, sometimes the corner of the eye is sore when I wake up, and at times it feels as if there is a foreign object such as dirt or an eyelash in the top right corner, but there doesn't appear to be when I check.

    I have got the same symptoms. I noticed my eyesight overall had got slightly worse, so went to the optician and she couldn't believe my lack of eyesight in left eye and the fact that no lenses was improving it.

    Got referred for an emergency appointment at the hospital where I had my eyes dilated and he couldn't find anything so sent me for a CT and a Field Test which all came back clear.

    Then had a OCT which again came back clear. I mentioned that I have started to struggle to read text on certain colours and reading text on brightly lit things was almost impossible, so they did a colour test which I failed.

    Now I'm being referred for an EEG Scan and then if that's clear an MRI.

    I do suffer from regular headaches, but I'm only 22 so to have such dramatic sight loss in one eye is a bit worrying!

    Hi! I'm a web designer and I'm having the same trouble. Just my left eye. Haven't gone to the doc yet, just started acting up a few days ago. It started with a swollen itchy eye when I woke up (had been rubbing in my sleep), almost as though I had gotten an allergen like cat fur into the eye. It felt like there was something in there but couldn't imagine what - I thought maybe mascara so I tossed them.

    I flushed it and used ice and it gradually went down over the next 24 hours. However the upper lid stayed a bit inflamed, not too noticeable and the itching was rare.

    Just today I woke up to a blurry eye. I thought it was just morning eyes, but it lingered for about an hour. Today I'm having the same issue. It's a little better than yesterday but now it's going on for longer than just an hour.

    I didn't get the chance to read through all of the replies to your post. Did the doctors have any luck finding anything? Also, I've noticed a number of us work on computers.. I think it may be related.

    One other thing, I use allergy eye drops daily. Well, up until the the issue began, and I've read that's not good for my eyes either.

    if its easy and not fully blurred only in the corners just get away from computers mobiles  just close your blurred eye keep the good one and dont focus too much its just weaking the sharp vision and try to sleep sometimes because if you sleep your DNA heals faster then you are awake this is just for people who have easy one

    I wanted to reply to this posting, as it was one of the first that come up in google searches as I was trying to figure out what was going on with me.  I am a 38 male.  About a month ago I noticed my right eye was suddenly blurry, eye dr said a few days later my eye was fine, went to my primary care doc about a week later and he felt I looked OK as well.  He ordered a MRI and bloodwork, and that came back OK.  Took antibiotics and a steroid to clear up a sinus infection for about 10 days and no change to my eye.  In the end I visited the eye dr (opthamologist) one more time and this visit he noticed fluid in my retina and was confirmed through an OCT scan.  Turned out I had a disease/issue called Central Serous Retinopothy. It is somewhat common and generally clears itself up after 1-4 months (I am on week 5 now and still there).   As I looked that up after my appointment it related to my symptoms well.  Maybe that is what some of you are going through?  The best of luck to you all, as I know that I felt like I was going crazy no knowing what was going on.

    Oh my goodness! I've been searching the internet for answers and not having a lot of luck. I've been having the same symptoms in my right eye. I'm not a programmer but I do a lot of my work at a computer. I've had blurry vision for a few weeks now. I've had some discomfort and driving at night is definitely a challenge. I just thought it was because my glasses are old and scratched. I noticed a couple days ago that if I put my hand over my right eye I could see fine out of my left eye. I finally got the genius idea to put my hand over my left eye and see what happened. I noticed my vision was very cloudy in my right eye near and far. Actually, I can see better out of my right eye without my glasses then I can with them. I was immediately concerned. My grandmother nearly lost her eye in an infection and has since had eye issues, so I knew this is probably serious. I have an appointment with an optometrist tomorrow to hopefully get some answers. The replies on this post are not giving me much hope. Wish me luck!

      I wanted to give an update. After many appointments to and from the optometrist and a visit to the opthalmalogist, my issue has been diagnosed as Anterior Basement Membrane Dystrophy. The initial issue is better since March, as in most days I can see out of my right eye. I bought new glasses as well and they seem to help. However, I do have my bad days. It's something I will have to manage for the rest of my life. I'm now 32. And I will likely need corneal scraping down the road. I've figured out my issue is related to likely at least partially related to dry eye. I find that I am better off if I am well-hydrated and use dry eye remedies. I hope this helps anyone searching for an answer.
