Swelling after hydrocelectomy

Just wondering if anyone has had the same experience I have had following a hydrocelectomy.  I am now 10 weeks post op and still have some swelling (egg size) I saw my doc about 5 weeks after surgery and he didnt seem concerned and doesnt want to see me again till December. I have read it can take 3-6 months for all swelling to subside but I was just curiouse if anyone has had the same problem as me as I am still kind of nervous.

I had a hydrocelectomy done on my right testicle on March 2nd, 2020, so a little over a week ago. I am still wearing the jock strap and although the swelling seems to be going down everyday gradually, it still feels hard and is still swollen a decent amount. Should I be concerned? There is minimal pain currently.

it takes time, the doctor did a lot of rearanging of our parts. im sure it will soften up. 😉

I had 2 surgeries 2 years ago. The first doctor was supposed to fix it but made it twice as bad and much more painful. The 2and doctor at a different hospital operated and fixed me immediately. I had no swelling or pain, it was back to normal size. I got lucky and found a doctor that knew what he was doing. Now after 2 years it is still normal size and I feel normal again, I feel like a man again.

my advice to anyone suffering with this is to do your homework. Look at all resources and pick a doctor that can do what you want done. I can post pics of my operation if anyone is interested.

Glad to hear your second operation went smoothly. So you had no harness above the testicle or incision site? Do you know if they fully removed the hydrocele sac or did they stitch it up?

I had no harness. There was a second incision site but you cant really tell now. In my first operation the quack opened me up and drained it according to him but when I woke up from the surgery it was bigger than before and just imagegot bigger as time went on. I really wonder if he did anything at all except to cut me and stitch me back up with a draw string and safety pin hanging from the bottom of my sack. In the second surgery by another doctor he removed the inner sac and stitched my testicle to the inside of my scrotum and what a world of difference, no pain, no swelling, just back to normal.

imageI am going to try to attach the pics my doctor took during my surgery.image

Thank you for the info. i have my first follow up with my surgeon mid april about 7 weeks after the surgery. Hoping by then the hardness has gone down. I will be sure to ask him some questions. Iam assuming because your surgeon completely removed the hydrocele sac you had no hardness. So you say the testicle was stitched to the inside of the scrotum. Does it hang "normal" right after surgery or did they take time?

Yes, I had the sack removed. My testicle itself is attached now to the inside to stabilize it and it hangs almost normal but my other testicle hangs a little lower naturally. I notice it cause it is my body but no one else really can see a difference.

After a lot of research I found your case.

I had my second Hydrocelectomy after 3 months (first one in march 2022, and I had a recidive)

Now it's one week after the second surgery (with same doctor) and I'm starting to feel it growing again...

I just did a transluminiscence test myself and I found a bit of light passing inside the affected testicle.

Seem's like it's starting to fill again....but I'm not sure If I'm having a second recidive or edema that's going to be reabsorved.

Anyone knows if edema can be confused or a positive transluminiscence test or is a recidive confirmed?

I'm getting obsessed with this situation...

      Thanks

So its been 6 weeks since i had the surgery. The operated testicle is still bigger and hard . Maybe a bit softer . As this testicle is higher up , the scrotum has excess skin when the scrotum is in a relaxed state. Assuming because having the hydrocele it stretched it out. Has anyone here experienced this ? If so did it ever tighten back up?

hi, i had mine august 29th last summer, skin tightened up, but have a weird shaped hard plumsized lump ontop my hydrocele testicle, still waiting for it to disapear..its an haemetacele. but doc seems to think in time it will disappear. Has anyone else experienced this complication from surgery?

Thanks for the reply back. Glad to hear it tightened up. So you are about 7.5 months after your surgery. Did you have allot of excess skin after the operation? I seem to have quite a bit. i know everyone heals at a different pace but do you recall how long it took for excess skin to tighten back up?

As for your question . I thought i have something similar to you. Hardness above the testicle. But the last few days of looking and feeling the testicle that had the operation on . I think my testicle is just quite big and swollen. My follow up with the surgeon he said everything is normal and it takes time for things to get back to somewhat normal pre hydrocele. I haven't done much research on a haemetacele . Is that similar to a hematoma?

I am 5 1/2 months post hydrocelectomy on my right testicle. I had a radical excision of the sac. One long incision in the center of the scrotum and a penrose drain that exited out the back bottom aide of my scrotum was left in for 4 days.

That drain was a b***h to deal with.

My right testicle was hard and sat higher up for 4 months at least. It has just now started to soften up a bit and hang a very small amount looser. I hope this continues to get better. I also had lots of loose skin on the right side that has made some improvement.

My right testicle was extremely sensitive and hurt just to run a finger across it for many weeks, but has made improvement there as well.

So, don't get to worked up over it if yours is similar, it just takes time. I know thats easier said then done. I am hoping in another 6 months it will keep making improvements.

hope you continue to improve as well.

hi, i really did not notice a lot of loose skin, but, my skin is very thick, when in hot shower both testicles drop, my sack gets pliable but my one testicle with the lump is very noticable looks like i have a triangular sack of 3 nuts, after they cool down they pull right back up, then looks like just one big tight bag of 2, weird. nothing hurts, i still wear jockeys 24/7 for suport..my surgeoun told me my haemetacele, is a complication ftom surgery, he does not want to do more surgery on me and said, it should go back to normal, but can takea long time, mine is like a blood clot on top the nut which in time will slowly absord back into my body. he said if it bothers me, pain wize, which it does not.. then i should go back to see him. as far as loose skin, my surgeon told me to wear good support pouch jocks or underwear to help heal, i wonder if thats why my skin tightened up quickly.? my hydrocele hung 1/3 of the way down my leg before! now, it looks pretty normal. good luck;)
